They did change Terry's Japanese voice in games (along with many others) between KOF13 and 14 but the current one hasn't missed a beat even if he hasn't been around 1993. A few SNK voices have actually stuck around for 30 years like King and Geese but those are exceptions.
Nah, the current Japanese VA, Kondo Takashi, only started with KoF XIV, and personally I don't like his performance at all. Especially not compared to Hashimoto Satoshi, who did the role from Fatal Fury through KoF 13. But Hashimoto has dropped basically all voice work to focus on on screen acting.
I like Terry's english voice, but Brian's comment is right. It basically sounds like Luke. He sounds great and everything, but it's sooo similar to Luke, I would have thought they brought in Aleks Le in again to do Terry's voice
Terry in JP winning rounds is funnier than anything because his lines are normally sick like "you down for one more?" Or "you're good I'll give you that" And my favourite "you ain't never beating me!! You got that??" And then the Japanese versions are just silly and endearing like yeah Terry beat my ass but I can't hate him he's trying his best English lol
I mainly remember Terry's voice lines from Smash Bros and I feel like those are significantly better than what they did for SF6. He's great in Japanese
there's an interview with Capcom that explains why SF6 japanese terry doesn't sound as funny as Terry lines from other games they made him speak English instead of Engrish
JP is iconic as hell. Didnt grow up with Terry so i dont have as much love as everyone else, but the two things i prefer from the english voice actor is the way he says the level 1 and level 2 but aside from that... Terry is awesome
"For balance, they should make an english VA do japanese voice lines" That's literally every other move name in this game though. I don't hear Ryu calling it his "Wave motion punch"
My wife said that Terry says "Here comes the big one!" like you would say "here comes the airplane!" when feeding a baby with a spoon and I laughed so hard I fell off the bed
After changing the entirety of Smash Ultimate, text included, to Japanese just for like 3 characters, I feel so blessed to be able to choose which character language I want individually without modifying anything else. Not to say any voice actor does a particularly bad job in this game on the English side as most are great, although I don't like how squeaky Chun Li is and how Akuma doesn't really have a voice underlying his old man gruff. Japanese Dee Jay is a great vibe, English Terry is fine but sounds like Luke's dad, English Honda is good but I prefer the Japanese slightly, Japanese Akuma is great, and Japanese Chun Li isn't *AS* squeaky. If you mix and match voices like I do you'll be a little upset that the World Tour Mode is all English or all Japanese but it's probably a better experience for you to hear and understand what passerby voicelines and cutscenes are or be entirely a weeb(even though if that was the case then you'd already have all the voices in Japanese so just screw me I guess).
I watched 3 minutes of unedited cr. MK followup grind wondering why you kept that in the video only to find out at the end it was for a chatter's incredibly lame joke
There are so many people in Japan that speak English, but every time I hear a Japanese voice actor say something in English it's clear they have no idea what they're saying. It makes for some very funny clips though.
I'm only using the JP Terry voice because I know the TO's are gonna do it and the sound cues will affect my performance (definitely not cope for me not reacting)
I think most TOs are not gonna bother and leave the game in English. that always bothered me a bit because I tend to prefer Japanese voices, and the audio cues do matter enough that it can be a little bit to adjust to. I watch enough gameplay in the opposite language of what I mix and match that I don't get thrown off by it though. More fighting games need to let you mix and match EN and JP character voices.
No disrespect to the Japanese VA, but Michael Allan Schneider absolutely clears as the definitive Terry Voice for me. So many great lines in this game.
@@Neoxon619 too shrill and childish sounding IMO. she's young and full of energy but the English goes too far in that direction, even more than Japanese when it's usually the other way around for female fighters. she also sounds mush-mouthed on top of always being so loud and I can't understand her half the time. In Japanese she has a slight American accent which makes her more cute without being too juvenile, more what they were going for I think.
as someone who absolutely adores the japanese va for Terry in other projects like kofxiv and smash i think Terry's English va sounds more fierce compared to the Japanese one
His voice is too good in Japanese. I did the same for Cammy because she also speaks english in JP, it's pretty good. Akuma has to be JP too, EN Akuma is not good.
Changing my Terry from English to Japanese made me go from plat 2 to plat 4
He is the only char i have in jp bc of the engrish
Thank you for your advice
Fr I went from diamond 2 to master
His Japanese Voice buff is real
My favourite part of Terry is when you perfect parry sometimes he'll say "PREDICTABO!"
Really? That's fucking great
he also says "GOTCHA NAU" and I love it so much
Terry is soooo American that even his Jp voice still speaks all American.
they've had same Japanese dude doing Terry engrish for years and it is absolutely top tier

I have everyone in ENG except Terry, Bison and Akuma.
Terry speaking clearly is so alien to me.
guile is another great japanese language candidate. "shooty" goes so hard
Is Bison’s JAP better?
Shooty? Is that for booms? That sounds funny as he'll! Might have to give Japanese guile a listen.
@@thirstysquidward3554Yeah he yells "Shooting!" every boom it's great. Makes boom loops even more fun.
Those are amazing.

you down fo wan mo? is my personal fav
Muting all game audio except voices ruined the game for me bc I now know that A.K.I. does NOT, in fact, say, "Bitchin'!"
No, no, she says "Skitchin'", but in this case it doesn't mean "skate-hitching", it means "snake-bitchin'!"
That discovery made me sad. What does she say?
@@sonicstruggle7477 She just *laughs in Chinese*, basically. "Shiu shiu!" or however you'd spell it :/

My god I never realized how much eng Terry sounds like Luke
The only times he actually speaks Japanese is in World Tour cinematics
His arcade mode has Japanese dialogue too

There's a mod on nexus that replaces alot of his japanese voicelines with his smash ones if you're interested
I agree
there's an interview with Capcom that explains why SF6 japanese terry doesn't sound as funny as Terry lines from other games

This JP VA for Terry is the new one. The old VA is before kof 14.
I like when he wins a round, offers to help the opponent up and says “you down for one more?”
1:19 chipmunk brian
Hat = Engrish
Jacket = English
It took 20 years for Brian to get this joke
There's only two types of Japanese voice Terry players: Nostalgic players and players who's avatars have squished torsos and extra long arms.
im hearing "THATS dinner" at the start of the jp CA line
rice n taco
This is called “ENGRISH” and best part of playing Terry.

I think his american VA is so much better. The last Scream on his CA sounds so satisfying
Terrys voice is always in Japanese this is how it should beeee! I didn’t even hesitant when Terry dropped!

I like the old Terry from neo geo days. Bah knackooh 👍.
Brian! Please give us a follow up/pt. 2 with Guile's Engrish!
Terry historically has always spoken broken English, even in his guest appearances like Smash and now SF6
WEFFSHAVVAHGOOFIGHT!
Japglish will always be the sickest VO
I cant hear him in anything but the JP xD
I think Terry's JP voice in this game is worse than it was in kof 98. As such I prefer him in English in this game.
terry the type of character you can play in your ribiguroomu
4:44 oh yeah hitbox user problems
