I'm new to tarot and I took advice and went with the RWS system, but had no idea that "the original" wasn't the actual original until weeks after I bought it. Glad to see this review comparing them because I figured it wasn't that different, but I wasn't going to buy another one to figure it out haha. I'm glad I ended up with this one. Thanks!
@@DaniMystic yea, i have done a lot more research since then! i actually prefer these muted colors more but i definitely will get a more vibrant one in the future. currently bonding with my first deck!
@@8888zod Theres nothing wrong with having a few different versions of RWS for comparison and study. I have 6 versions of this deck, my "for good" deck being a Universal Waite. If you like the muted colours, I find the Centennial version is a good version thats fairly easy to get . The Borderless edition is in this video : )
I have a 1970's yellow box set, very old but very thin but yet I love them like that...the thinner i think the better they shuffle and bend...It took me a while to find these over a year to be exact and usually, you can find an older deck on eBay at a reasonable price, but my first deck was the original with the blue and white Lilly's on the back made by china and those are getting harder to find also in the place of print cause most of those were printed in Belgium...
I love the idea of a classic RWS in linen finish but I'm just SO attached to the linework and colouration in the Centennial. As much as I enjoy my Radiant Wise Spirit, I love the Centennial just a bit more. I agree too about some funny coloration things like the clouds in the Tower and some line errors like in the faces as you pointed out... totally see what you mean there! I don't think I'll be picking this one up - I'm so glad you did such a thorough comparison!!!
Thank you so much for this! I've been trying to find "my" RWS deck and I think this may be it. Being mildly vision impaired the smooth blocks of color seem like they would be much easier for me to see. Really appreciate you taking the time to do this!
If you're looking for more solid colors (less of the lines and hatched coloring), check out Siren Imports! A few years back, they hired me to recreate the RWS deck and I used solid colors - more crisp, more sharp. They have some wonderful options on their site and you should be able to find a deck that's easy on your eyes :) ~ S.
Yessss! Papa Squirrel sent me over here. I saw this deck on amazon and was curious. I typically don’t click with the original RWS imagery, however, the centennial edition has become one of my favorite decks recently. I love the vintage look which I believe makes me click with the deck. Thanks for sharing 💚
I like this deck. I gifted mine to my sister in law.. I still have the Yellow box which I love. It’s different. It’s very much like the University book colors. For the price this is a great deck. I like the linen finish
The yellow box siren imports deck is what I meant to say. The tan one which you are reviewing is more like original. The yellow box siren is really funky I love it.
Dani Mystic you have to look on EBay. I think it’s oop. It was by Siren Imports. It’s a phenomenal version. The one you are reviewing is nice for the money too. The colors have just been turned down a bit. Always love your videos. Hope the Deck is coming along nicely
This deck has some sloppy mistakes that put me off. 1) The horse in the Knight of Cups has part of his belly missing, showing sky. 2) The cripple in the 5 of Pentacles has been drawn with his hand on the wrong place on the left crutch. I now use the 100% plastic RWS by US Games, that is one vibrant and enduring deck.
I have this deck and it's not bad. I don't have the same error on my six of wands, so it must be just your copy. I'm not particularly partial to linen stock, but it's okay (some folks really love it). The coloration of this deck isn't quite as pleasing to me. Some of it is a bit harsh. The skintones are a pretty pasty pink color. The yellows particularly with the Pentacles is sort of orangey. I do like the little book and have found it really helpful; I co-opted it for use as a learning tool with my marseille decks. When I have trouble with numerological assignations for pip cards, I lean on recalling from memory the RWS images corresponding to the cards, or I can pull out this little book from its bag to refresh my memory (it's a handier visual reference tool than my oversized Ultimate Guide To The Rider Waite Tarot). I've also pulled the cheat cards from the Influence of the Angels Tarot to help with key words for numbers and suits.
I'm pretty partial to the Centennial RWS when it comes to color. I'm definitely a sucker for muted tones! That's a great way to reference for pips, I do like the way that they set up and have the colored photos in the LWB!!
Nice deck. I bought the Pamela Colman Smith RWS deck because I could not handle the eye searing canary YELLOW on the yellow box plaid back Rider Deck. I have had mine since probably 2000 and I have hardly touched it since it seems so garish.
Damn I didnt know the centenial had a borderless version the idiots at us games have zero command of the english language they just called it a coleman smith b less deck arent they all cs decks?/ duh
I have this deck, I love it besides for the pink page of cups so I don't reach for it sadly for readings but my 6 of wands is identical to your love, what is it exactly that you were pointing to?
@@DaniMystic yes, I have this deck, and mine didn't have the dot. It is a nice deck. I just find the flesh tones too pink, and I've been searching for a good more authentic Rider Waite, none of them are perfect but just something about a classic Rider Waite that resonates with me. Just wish they could mute the colors a bit. Have you seen the Rider Playing card deck???? The colors are perfect!!! But the style is strange, not really a tarot deck, and not really a playing card deck....
I like the centennial edition colors the best, muted and chill! I have seen that one! I don’t have it, because I kind of feel the same way. I want it to be one or the other. I think it’s because it has the classic RWS imagery that throws me off a bit.
@@DaniMystic I understand the deck on the right is the Centenial Borderless edition, but why is your original Rider Waite deck of cards (from the yellow & white box) on the left side also borderless? All the cards I've ever seen of that very common deck have white borders. I've never seen any from that yellow & white box with the blue plaid on the back be borderless before. It's kind of nuts.
I ordered a tarot deck That says original tarot deck but shipped and produced by yomont mine will have a velvet bag and detailed guide book looking forward to getting mine the first deck I have is really hard to use because it is not rider wait deck it's the del toro tarot deck keep up the good work girl you are amazing
Hi...not sure if background music is something new your are trying.... ipad speakers suck (and i have a brand new one) but your voice and the music are competing on my end....sorry. (I have eustachian(sp) tube disfunction and my hearing fluctuates constantly so any competing noise is difficult)
I was having trouble with this one, I noticed on my end (I edit on an iPhone) it was fine when I was editing and saving, but when I pull it up after uploading, the music is definitely competing! I usually have music in my background, but I try and regulate it to where it isn't all that noticeable. This one wasn't a winner in that department!!
My favorite one the RWS on the left. Good balance of vivid colors and vintage feel.

There are many traditional RWS versions out there with Pixie’s artwork! They are all basically the same image, it’s usually the colors that differ!

I don’t mind thin card stock for that exact reason! Sometimes it just shuffles so nicely!

It’s the borderless Centennial edition of the deck
