Resident Evil Village[a] is a 2021 survival horror game developed and published by Capcom. It is the sequel to Resident Evil 7: Biohazard (2017). Players control Ethan Winters, who searches for his kidnapped daughter in a village filled with mutant creatures. Village maintains survival horror elements from previous Resident Evil games, with players scavenging environments for items and managing resources. However, it adds more action-oriented gameplay, with higher enemy counts and a greater emphasis on combat.
Resident Evil Village was announced at the PlayStation 5 reveal event in June 2020 and was released on May 7, 2021 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Stadia, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, followed by a macOS version and a cloud version for Nintendo Switch in October 2022. It received generally favorable reviews, with praise for its gameplay, setting, and variety, but criticism for its puzzles, boss fights and performance issues on the Windows version; the increased focus on action divided opinions. Resident Evil Village won year-end accolades including Game of the Year at the Golden Joystick Awards. The game sold 6.4 million units by June 2022.
ike its predecessor, Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, Resident Evil Village uses a first-person perspective. It is set in a snowy explorable Eastern European village, described as "pulled straight from the Victorian era" and much larger and more immersive than its predecessor.[1] Structures and buildings in the central village can be climbed and used to fight enemies.[1] Compared to Biohazard, the game is more action focused, with protagonist Ethan Winters now equipped with more combat skills due to military training.[2] The game's primary enemies, the werewolf-like Lycans, are not only agile and intelligent, but can wield weapons and attack in packs, forcing the player to rethink their strategy on whether to use sparse ammunition, use melee combat, or simply run away.[3][4][5] Similar to Resident Evil 4 (2005), makeshift barricades can be used to fend off enemies.[4]
The inventory management mechanic is similar to that of Resident Evil 4, featuring a briefcase and the ability to move and rotate items for better storage space. Players can buy supplies, weapons, upgrades, and items from a merchant called the Duke.[6] The players can also hunt animals in the village and have them cooked into dishes by the Duke. Eating side dishes allows the player to gain certain advantages such as decreasing the damage taken while blocking.[7] Treasures and collectibles can be found around the village, and sold to the Duke for currency.[1]
Players can manually save the game progress by locating and using typewriters, which replaces the tape recorders seen in Resident Evil 7 and marks their first appearance in a mainline game since Resident Evil 4.[8] A map of the village can be accessed from the pause menu, as well as a diary with sketches recapping the player's progress in the story so far.[4] Two new features added to the game were photo mode, which gave players the opportunity to screenshot in-game moments.

Little tip, to see everything clearly you have to put the display setting at its lowest value. This gives you a ton more viewing space and puts the camera at the correct distance for 3rd person. The normal setting filling up the whole screen is better suited for 1st person. Makes a huge difference honestly

@@robertgolic212 Hey Robert ✌🏼 in the display or video settings, you will find one that says "display area" if i'm not mistaken. You will get arrows on the top and sides of the screen. You can adjust them to be closer to the outer edges or more to te center. I adjusted them to the smallest setting (closer to the center of the screen) this give you more viewing space and helps make tight hallways allot more easy to navigate through.

Resident Evil is My favorite video game series of all time! Its actually the only series in which i have completed every single game at least once/twice/«thrice» etc. Its addictive. Thats what it is. But i must admit: I must smile at how similar this experience is to playing Resident Evil 4 (espec. in 3rd person mode). Ok the graphics are sharper and more gorgeous, But thats about it! Actually feels Good cause that confirmes My suspicion that development is flattening out.
I just get frustrated and end up doing a lot of back tracking, which is no fun. Hated 2 and 3 but loved 4 and Village (though with the help of a guide).

Random but, do you think the fact that we dont see Ethan's face at all in the main story is alluding to something? They took the time to give him a good, functional face and didnt use it. Wondering if he is somehow related to Birkin or Wesker (Project Wesker). There might be some crazy twist coming in 9. I know his story is supposed to be over, but they have to follow up with that reveal at the end of with the BSAA.

Мне в играх от первого лица никогда не нравилось поведение модельки персонажа. Не думаю, что держать руки с оружием практически у уха постоянно - это очень удобно...

I hope in the next main entry if they do an option to toggle between 3rd and 1st person that it's available from the beginning instead of an afterthought
Well it definitely wasn't planned. They only added it due to the DLC story being in third person and it being such a requested feature. You can tell since the cutscenes are still in first person. All the cutscenes (as far as I know) use the gameplay engine, so they'd be able to edit them much easier to make them third person. But it was sort of a "Since we already have this worked out, it won't take any manpower or resources to give you it."

I'll always take 3rd Person over 1st Person. But regardless of the change the fact is that RE:V is a bad game.
The option for 3RD is fine for people who prefer it or get motion sickness etc, but it is more clear than ever that this game was designed around the idea that "the horror is right in your face"
Me too. I want to see my character that i am controlling in games because it will enhance my game experience and care more about my character. Third person view is the way to do that. I hope all game developers should consider all fans, it shouldn’t be that hard for them to offer both first and third person views in any games. If players want a first person perspective, there should be option for that switch, the same goes for those who prefer third person perspective.

I actually skipped playing this game because I didn't really like that they switched to a first person perspective in the 7th game. Then after playing through the new RE4 remake like 5 times in a row, I got to thinking maybe I should check this game out because I had such a good time with the RE2/3/4 remakes. I didn't even realize this game went in a direction that was so similar to RE4 with the focus on heavy action, attaché case, merchant/upgrades, boxes/barrels/vases to be slashed and looted and so on. Nor did I know that they added a 3rd person mode. I actually might pick this game up now.

@@leodaweeb6969 Honestly no, I thought about it, but I don't really play a lot of video games these days and ended up watching a lot of the game on someone else's playthrough out of curiosity. If I had a boat load of extra time and money I would probably get it just to try it out though.

Nah, that isn't the complaint at all in general, it feels like a mod sometimes, and also...the fact that it's locked by a DLC… Most people are complaining about that.

Is it a crime to demand a better work? The game is awesome, but the 3rd person doesn't look good and it is not cheap to buy, because you can't buy it separately. The fans are right. You won't understand cuz you not a fan.

I don't like re village coz it's 1st person. 1st person gives you far larger blind spots, even the eyes get confused & the head turns dizzy, those combined makes a game a lot harder. 1 think i kinda like this one.
I mean that’s literally the point of first person, to mimic human perception so you don’t cheat and see behind you. It makes games more immersive and scarier
i prefer third person for survival horror games and first person for regular horror games (with exceptions like outlast and this game of course)
How’s you do the 3rd person point of view
In the main menu, you go to the option that say’s “camera” it then shows you a side by side comparison of 1st and 3rd person (you can only get this on gold edition)

Only on gold edition, if you have it, you can change the camera (but the developers won’t let’s you see Ethan’s face, only the side of it)

It’s difficult to play this in third person after play RE4remake, RE3 remake and RE2 remake. Ethan feels like he’s levitating and looks like he has psychic powers.

capcom has the best deals, re4 was on sale for $29.99 despite coming out less than a year ago, and the dlc is only $9.99

If you own RE village you get 3rd person view with the dlc ( which you need to buy) if not I think you get it with the gold edition of RE village

Resident evil is nev a 1st person game from RV 1 to 6, rv 2 remake & rv 3 remake. U can't dodge well in 1st person. U mus at least gt 1 hit to doge. I hav seen quite a few players show their playthrough on youtube.
they took a different approach, for re7 i believe first person fits way more than in re8. they added the guarding mechanic as well.

It's too late for me. This is now in a super good sale and i am a series fan but i can't bring myself to buy it.
I am simply not invested. The 3rd person came too late and almost tacked on. I passed on RE7 and 8. I know what happened and i know this arc is over. There is no point investing on this. It's ok. I can accept this duology wasn't for me since i hate FP games. Always had trouble with motion sickness with them.
All i ask is for Capcom to develop 3rd person from the beggining as well next time. Otherwise i will have to keep skipping these. :/

I dont mind a game having dark scenes and dark parts of gameplay. But nit the entire game when you hardly see a thing. Sure you can cranck up brightness and play that way, but then the game just looks wrong. The first RE games where better in that perspective. Thats is my opiniin anyway
