- The ColecoVision is a second-generation home video-game console developed by Coleco and launched in North America in August 1982. It was released a year later in Europe by CBS Electronics as the CBS ColecoVision. The console offered a closer experience to more powerful arcade video games of the time compared to competitors such as the Atari 2600 and Intellivision.
The initial catalog of twelve games on ROM cartridge included the first home version of Nintendo’s Donkey Kong as the pack-in game. Approximately 136 games were published between 1982 and 1984, including Sega’s Zaxxon and some ports of lesser-known arcade games that found a larger audience on the console, such as Lady Bug, Cosmic Avenger, and Venture.

What are your favorite ColecoVision games?
Jumpman Junior was one of my favorites growing up! Played it more than Donkey Kong. Glad it's on here!
@@beardedj5740 awesome! Thanks for checking out the video!
The Smurfs was awesome on the coleco, a personal favorite of mine when I was a child.
Awesome! I'm glad it brought back good memories.
I don't have much experience with colecovision games (yet ;)), but recently started playing Smurf Rescue in Gargamel's Castle (#24 on your list). I already beat the game multiple times, however I really want to beat deathless skill level 4. It's simple platformer with a bit clunky controls, but it's definitely a lot of fun to play. Thanks for the list! Got some ideas for future playthroughs.
Awesome! Glad you enjoyed the list! Yes, SRinGC is definitely clunky but charming. Definitely would like to see a deathless playthrough of that game. Maybe consider checking out some of the other lists and see what you think. Thanks for watching!
A+
Thank you so much! I greatly appreciate it!
i love the music so nostalgic
Thank you for watching! Yes, brings back memories. 😊
The real deal better than all of the Ataris...true arcade conversions that mimicked the originals closely.
Facts! Yes, the ColecoVision was as close to the arcades as you can get before the Sega Genesis came out. Thank you for watching!
i know its all about personal taste, but i absolutely cannot understand the donkey kong colecovision hype. okay, the graphics and sounds are great. but what about the most important thing: gameplay??? the game has only 3 screens, lots of arcade details were left out (springs on the elevator stage) and furthermore (main problem) - the game is far too easy even on difficulty level 4. i can play it for hours without loosing a single life. and it never gets more difficult. this is totally boring. compare this version to the awesome atari 800 port: inferior graphics but the (fast) 4-screen-gameplay with lots more arcade-details is absolutely brilliant here. imo this the retro-port to go for, beating even the coleco adam and nes 3 screen-port.
Keep in mind that at the time, it was a huge deal. Especially being a pack-in title for the ColecoVision. We have to try an look at these things from a retro lense. Me personally, I didn't like DK on the right side of the screen. But that's nitpicking I guess.
@@RetroGamingCapsule thx for answering. you are right, it was a big deal. but short after the wow-effect was gone (one day later) disappointment came to me fast because of the non-increasing difficulty level. it was totally boring. graphics and sound top but no play value at all. there were lots of better games on the colecovision when it comes to playability.
So imaginate.
Because the sg-1000 as well as the MSX used the same or similar hardware as the Colecovision.
Left out DK Jr
Thanks for checking out the video! Pats fan here too. TB12 GOAT!
JR is MUCH better than first Donkey kong.
If you have the list in ascending order of preference, I do not always agree. How anybody would rank smurf above gorf is beyond me. And Donkey Kong #1, no. Its successor DK jr was improved and better in every way. And other games were better too.
But I guess everywhere there is a list there will be debate.
First off, thanks for taking the time to watch the video and give your feedback. And yes, no video will be 100% to everyone. Debates are always welcomed.
Talk! add some sort of narrative. tell me a little about each game.
Thank you for watching the video and your feedback!
This list excludes nearly all of the best ColecoVision games! Where’s Space Fury? SubRoc? Slither? Flipper Slipper? Meteoric Shower? Threshold? Super Cross Force? Beamrider? Victory?
Seems like it was compiled by someone who wasn’t even born yet when the ColecoVision came out.
Thank you for watching the video and the feedback. Take care.
I had a Colecovision and I never heard of the games you just mentioned...
@@jonathanakehurst4489 I had Subrock and heard of Space Fury and Slither. But I'm with you on the rest mentioned 😆. Although I'd like to see what those games are all about!
