All things come to an end, even life. At least you were there for the last moments so it didn't die alone. That, I think is the best gift an owner can give his/her pet in it's final moments.

I'm sure this is actually very valuable and educational, so thank you for recording and posting it. A fascinating watch.
Very bittersweet video because it's sad that the mouse died but it wasn't violent and it sounds like he was loved and cared for and lived a long life, for a mouse.
Probably the best, most conscientious thing would be to let it crawl into a hole for this process instead of exposing it and shining a light on it, but like I said: this has educational value.
Thanks for taking such good care of the little squeaker.

This just happened to one of our old girls a couple days ago and I’ve been struggling to figure out if there was something I could have done or shouldn’t have done.
This poor thing has a respiratory infection, mine wasn’t making those noises, she did make some weird sleep squeaks the days before but was otherwise normal, slept more and more as she got older but I never expected her to get so cold and lethargic and confused so quickly.
She twitched out of my hands after being still and letting me pet her head and hold her for literal hours, flew like 2 feet forward and 3 to the ground. Was still alive but obviously wasn’t going to make it, so I gassed her really quick to put her out of her suffering.
I’ve never had one get a death jolt that made it bolt that fast and have been wondering if she was trying to put herself out of her own misery because I was too sad to do it. But I think that’s unlikely after watching this one twitch around at death and other videos of seizures, she probably had no idea what was even happening. And seemed glad to be held since her younger “sisters” were screwing around while she was incapacitated or dizzily walking, was going to quarantine her but decided on holding her until she passed. She enjoyed it while she was healthy, so I figured a warm box with her scent in it sitting in my hands was as safe and comfortable a refuge as any, seeing as putting her in the spare cage with fresh bedding would have just stressed her out, as her mates were also doing.
That whole night she’d randomly lose and regain consciousness in the strangest places after being healthy and happy, albeit old and frail, up until that morning. She would be walking and then just go limp with her eyes open for a minute, and then wake up and look around like “wtf am I” only to collapse another min later.
Was not a fun experience but you’re right, I’m honestly glad I saw this video because it’s very similar and reminds me that like all living things, eventually their little body/organs just give out on them.
They’re such timid, clean, loving, and overall just pleasant little creatures in captivity, nothing like the little bastards that sneak in in the winter and stink up corners of the apt. 😂

This is perhaps the saddest part of owning a rat when it's time to say goodbye. My little girl passed away in my arms from the cursed cancer. That mouse must've been at peace knowing it was with its best friend in its final moments. Sorry for your loss.

I’m terrified of mice but I’m glad he was able to be with someone that loved him and he trusted! I held my dog when he passed away and he never took his eyes off me. This video brought tears to my eyes. He seemed he wasn’t giving death and easy time taking him! RIP Mighty Mouse!🫶🏽😇

It is an interesting process to watch. Thank you for documenting it. Death from old age is simply a part of life we don't often see.
I'm sorry for your loss. I know he was very loved and well cared for. 🥰

No one just dies from old age unfortunately lol, organs have to fail on you. This little dude’s lungs are collapsing and it sounds like they had a upper respiratory infection, which is super common way to die for domestic mice, especially if they’re old. If you’re lucky it’ll happen in your sleep, but like this mouse and 99% of all other living things, death is often a painful and seemingly unpleasant process. It was nice OP held it as their scent and warmth was probably comforting and they were just feeling ill, didn’t know they were dying. Probably could have done without the bright light on it though. It’s just a part of life we all have to come to terms with one day or another. I guess that’s why we came up with so many different religions…I mean it makes sense when you think about how our brains/consciousness literally can’t perceive itself not existing after death, so we all forever wonder what happens until it’s finally our time.

Something similar happened to a few of my rats. It's unbelievably tough to watch. But I am curious to know exactly what is happening. If its some sort of stroke or if they simply run out of energy and can't breathe any longer?

I saw another comment mentioning that it looks like an upper respiratory infection which I guess is common among domesticated mice and potentially rats? [Especially older ones as the comment said]

    • @Killkid9
      @Killkid9 10 месяцев назад

@nesnahnevard4907 It is a similar death to respiratory issues. But in my experience once your rat or mouse reaches an age as high as this their body will eventually shut down. They will stop playing and eating and they will sleep most of the days. You can tell when the day is getting close, but they use the last of their energy to try to keep going but it's too much for the little guys to handle and they will pass away just like this. Its extremely depressing to watch and I know dying is never a comfortable experience but all you can do is just be there and hold them while they pass away
