  • Understanding the requirements of IEC 61508 is the foundational step in achieving a SIL rating for you product. However, achieving a SIL rating isn’t the “end of the road”.
In this webinar, we will discuss and determine how that SIL rating can be used.
We go Back to Basics and look at:
How to find a safety integrity level
What are the requirements for the manufacturer of a device?
    What is SIL Capability?
    What are Architectural constraints?
    What is PFDavg?
How is SIL used by end users?
    How to calculate SIL
How to reach a certain rating
Is there a way to improve a SIL rating?

I am in rail and this is so helpful. usually tutorials ignore rail and don't even mention SIL4, whereas in rail most of the functions are SIL4. I'll see if I can recommend exida.

Very interesting. As a former NAVY nuclear reactor operator and electronics tech, we only had two sets of critical instruments and none were tied in to do "automatic" shutdowns. Everything was in the hands of the operator (typically a 19-20 year old kid). I'm watching this video because a competitor of mine in industry is claiming that their product is SIL 4 capable. I have serious doubts on his claim.
