I think it all looks so lovely, a great challenge, but such fun too. No wonder you are doing it again this year. A great experience, and a splendid video, thanks Dan.
Strade Bianche = Straw-day Bee-ahn-kay. You capture the atmosphere well - including the squeeky brakes. All that's missing is the smell of burning brake pads! BRAVO! PS - ditch the crash hat!!!
Darn, more work on my pronounciation.... got to go through the Legnano post L`Eroica and sort out a few things, mostly the squeeky brakes - have picked up a hairnet to replace the helmet - just not quite brave enough to let the hair flow free (almost did but bottled it after the first section of bianchi... Dan
Absolutely epic! Would love to own a vintage bike but I don’t think I could do those climbs with vintage gearing 😂 would love to see all the awesome vintage rides!!!
There were triple gearsets made and used prior to 1987 though most of my epoca bikes have later versions - but as long as they're polished aluminum, you use clip/strap pedals and have exposed brake cables + ride in vintage kit...nobody will bother you as you RIDE up the climb while they walk. Loved L'Eroica Gaiole in 2014 though haven't been back since there were SO many people. These daze I like the smaller bici d'epoca events held almost every weekend during the season somehere here in Italy.
Nice... you`d definatly need a triple to get over the 18% Murlo climb - as without being able to get out of the saddle due to the gravel fighting it was not an option, Dan@@larryt.atcycleitalia5786
Congratulations on finishing L’Eroica! Thank you for letting us all tag along. Wish I would have known about it when I was younger. Love everything about this event 🥰
Actually not a problem - get a set of Large toe clips, leave the leather straps as loose as possible and, if you don't have any vintage cycling shoes, wear the narrowest, oldest pair of smooth-soled trainers that you have! You will get them in and out of the pedals without any problem and they will be just what you need when you are pushing the bike up and down the hills! @@ChoWasHere
Great video! I did the Medio version in 2011 and 2013. I originally was going to take my freshly-restored Raleigh SBDU bike but realized with all that gravel it would be bad for the nice new paint finish, so instead spent 200 Euros for a 1982 Peugeot PXN-10 with a bit of wear, switched the tires to Conti 28s and had a great time. It is a long day in the saddle and both times I was there it was very hot but the scenery was splendid and the food stops...like nowhere else!
Nice one Dan, did Germania in '22 and yep, the whole scene does indeed get under your skin. Well organized, great atmosphere, zero bike snobbery and just a good bunch of people out enjoying themselves for the day.
i love to dislike things on YT and just generally be a jerk with a couple of brews in me, but this just looks super cool. i hate the term bucket list too, nevertheless, i started one and put this ride on it :)
You lost me early in the video (and now that I see it, in your description), as the name of the race is STRADE BIANCHE, not "Strada Bianchi". C'mon, man!
this channel deserves millions of views. shout it from the mountain top! great video as always!
Millions one day... thanks, Dan
Great video.

Thanks - counting the days... Dan
Congratulationns!!!!!

Oddly enough L`Eroica is one of those rides where its fine to get off and walk, no one judges anyone - though some of the climbs are brutal, Dan
Everyone is a hero for the day. Ride it, walk it, crawl it, make it anyway you can - everyone gets the same medal.

Yep, L`Eroica just gets under your skin - I`m planning on not just `24 L`Eroica but a plan for `25... can`t wait, Dan
Never too late! Some folks there were in their 70s & 80s
@@MadMarchTaffy It’s the clip-ins that scare me tho 😬

Hell yeah - I was well impressed with the number of 80 year olds riding strong, Dan@@MadMarchTaffy

Awesome - you`d have been too precious on the Raleigh - patina and reliabilty all the way for L`Eroica, Dan
Epic, awesome, amazing! What a wonderful bike ride. Stunning scenery...loved your squeaky brakes 😊
sorting the squeky brakes will be a feature of another video... Dan
Nice one Dan, did Germania in '22 and yep, the whole scene does indeed get under your skin. Well organized, great atmosphere, zero bike snobbery and just a good bunch of people out enjoying themselves for the day.
Yep, no snobbery at all - just loads of riders who love vintage bikes - already booked a hotel for next years L`Eroica, Dan
Fantastic! I must get to that one in the near future.
Yep - its the best cycling event by far - we are flying out to this years L`Eroica in a couple of days, Dan
Wow Dan! Looks epic! I love how the best rest stop you’ve ever seen is a table of sandwiches 😂 classic.
TP x
Man, that was a table of delights - cakes, pastries, meats, wine... a cut above some malt loaf and jellie babies... Dan
Great video. I ride the 106k. Brilliant event. Bit hot in the afternoon.
Sure was - really cold at the start, warmed up, then baking hot from 10am - I`m preparing for L`Eroica 2024 already... Dan
Bit hot!!??? It was baking - I could taste the dust from the roads for days afterwards
Yep, dust and red wine... Dan@@MadMarchTaffy
super heroic next time. we both know you can do it ;)
Its being planned for - not next year but the year after - just bought a basket case of a 1920`s Bianchi frame though... Dan
i love to dislike things on YT and just generally be a jerk with a couple of brews in me, but this just looks super cool. i hate the term bucket list too, nevertheless, i started one and put this ride on it :)
I agree about bucket lists - but L`Eroica Tuscany...OMG... Dan
Very good. Thanks. Wondering if your bike was rented?
I will ride this year with my Legnano Model 54 speciale. I love the shirt, any idea where I could get a Legnano shirt like that?
Awesome - I`ll be there again - can`t wait... Ebay and patience for a top like that, be sure to say hi if you see me, Dan

Ah, my quality Italian... Dan
The final "e" in Strade Bianche is pronounced like the "e" in "end". StradE BianchE.
Apologies - think I got Legnano correct this time? Dan
@@vintagevelos9517 Correct!.
