Thanks so much for your first use of this sifter. It is a bit expensive but if it works as advertised, it would be a possibility for a small producer like myself. Keep us updated on your future use of this product. I ended up designing and building my own vibrating sifter that works well enough for me.

Looks like a wonderful machine. Once you use it more, I bet everything will go even more faster.

The worm casting you sell do they still have worm eggs in them? I guess what I am asking is if I buy worm casting for my garden could I use it to start a worm bed or do I have to buy worms instead? Watching you sift worms is almost as much fun as if I was doing it my self. I say Almost. Your friend Bob

The sifter that I use have 2 different meshes size, one 1/8 inches and the second one have 1/4 inches hole. The 1/8 sift only pure casting and is to small for the cocoons to pass trough, some cocoons can pass trough but is rare and they are not in number high enough to start a colony. Again is very rare that a cocoons can pass trough a 1/8 mesh. All the cocoons and baby worms will pass trough the 1/4 holes and this is what I use to start new trays.

I would dry before sifting next time. There is a possibility the balling up of the damp casting is hard to undo ... from my own experience.

Actually the casting was not really damp, the sifter is very fine and need to be dry to.sift very well, also this is firs and last time I use big tote bin, they are hard to manage and the bottom is always very moist. I had to take the worms out of this finished compost it was time

I like to ad a note about the green world we are hearing about every day. There is also a world wide movement starting about the harm that has been done to our soil.. The biodiversity of wich worms are a big part of that. You see large farms growing field corn or soybeans and you think oh there is lots of farm land so there will be lots of food. But that land is used mostly for stock feed. You try to grow what a gardener grows and you see you need a much better grade of soil. So my point is I think there is a future in raising worms if only the thought that you are doing something good for the planet.

You are right. To use this sifter in the best way, the bedding needs to be pretty dry.
