This pattern didn't work but the idea was great and I'm very happy with my version. To avoid the point on the top, make 12 dc in a magic circle, then 24 in the next row. You need to end up with at least 44 sts to fit a ladies head. I made 2 rows of black for the stripe and the bow was done in hdc. If the guage is 3dc to 1", the hat as given would come out at a 12" circumference.
The pattern does indeed work as designed. I have made it several times and countless others have also made this with no issues as you described. If you use the yarn suggested (at the very least use the correct weight), and the correct hook size it works fine. There is no "point" at the top as you mentioned, and it does fit a ladies head. I would have to assume you used a different weight yarn and/or a tighter tension. I'm glad you like the design and I appreciate that you took the time to comment.
I used Lion Brand Thick & Quick-size 6 & hook size 8mm - all the same size yarn & hook as this pattern calls for & I got this point as well. But, I continued with the pattern & it worked itself out :) Thank goodness for that bc I thought that it would have stayed as it was quite prominent at the beginning.
Loved it. After I made hats and scarves for all the family for gifts this year I needed a hat too! This was very fast and easy. It’s cozy and warm. Thank you
I love this little hat and I crochet it and move simple to follow but it seems like it don't matter what had it is it seems like whenever I get to the end and I put the slip stitch or whatever the final border stitch ending stitch whatever you want to call it it makes my hat to tight help this is on almost all my hats
It sounds like you are working on this right now so I want to reply right away. Since you seem to have this problem with most of your hats, I would use a larger hook for the last 2 or 3 or 4 rows (depending on the stitches you are working with) to give you a little more width. For this hat I would use the larger hook beginning with the white row and continuing to use the larger hook for the remainder of the hat. I hope this helps you.
You are probably correct. This was done several years ago and I don't recall the exact number of rows without recreating it. Thank you for bring it to my attention.
Would like to make this for my granddaughter but don’t recall hearing or reading in the description what size the hat is. Is thus pattern for an adult size?
Thank you for the question. This tutorial is for an adult size. Here is the pattern for a child size version: crazycoolcrochet.com/childs-winter-hat-with-bow/
Thank you! Crochet hook size L for hat and E for bow . I forgot to mention it in the video but I did include that in the detail in the description area below the video. Thank you for commenting.
@@CrazyCoolCrochet do you have this hat in a written pattern? I keep trying it and it doesn't come out right for me. I am using bulky yarn (6) and an L hook.
@@brendawagner6143 The written pattern is on the blog and the printable pattern is at Etsy. The links are in the description area below the video. crazycoolcrochet.com/crochet-vintage-style-hat/ Hope this helps!
I love your work, I’ve subscribed to your channel, but this pattern was confusing for me, seemed you went a bit faster than usual. (I’m just learning, maybe I’m just too slow, lol)
Thank you for the compliment and for subscribing! I truly appreciate it. It might be easier to follow along with the written instructions in addition to the video. Thank you! I know it as the reverse single crochet. But it is also called the crab stitch, which is a cooler name huh? I should start using that term instead. :)
I just made this hat, followed your pattern to the “T” and boy was I surprised. It didn’t fit no kind of way. I guess I will have to add more stitches…..pretty hat though…
I'm sorry this didn't fit as expected. It is designed as a "one size fits most". So many factors play into the final results including yarn used (did you use a different yarn? a different weight yarn?) and especially personal tension. I made this for my elderly mom and it was too big. Same yarn, same tension, same everything. So yes, I do know that results will vary. This has happened to me with other designers' patterns. I worked the pattern to a "T" and "it didn't fit at all. Other times...perfection. Hopefully you can work it out so it fits just right.

Thank you so much for letting me know! It really is fast and easy and stylish! I wore mine all last winter. Thank you for watching.
This was a lot faster than I thought. I will be making more in different colours cos I'm sure some of my loved ones may want one,😀

This is so cute! Thank you for sharing.

The bow is stated 27 rows, the video SHOWS 37 rows. I think 37 feels more correct. Love your pattern and instructions. Thanks so much!

Beautiful hat!!!
Thank you!
You are so talented. Sorry iam gonna make some for family if you dont mind. Love it
Thank you so much! Very kind. Yes, of course you can make this. Enjoy!
How are you coming up with odd numbered rows? Your not counting the chain 3?
Correct.
That is what confused me. I didn't know whether to count the chain 3 as a double crochet or not
