I am Lebanese Christian and witnessed the torture of Assad’s thugs of Lebanese people in the 80s. Assad needs to be handed over to the Syrians to face justice. Him and his brother Maher and his higher ups are responsible for thousands of documented cases of torture, executions, disappearances, imprisonment and use of forbidden weapons on a mass scale in Syria and Lebanon.

Russia (Putin and Kremlin) needs to decide what is more important to Russia.
Is the invasion, occupation and annexation of the tiny parts of 5 Ukraine oblasts of Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporitzia, Kherson and Crimea worth losing ALL of Russia for?
If Russia continues on the current course their Geopolitical status will be extinguished, their military standing completely destroyed and their economy setback 50 years to the point of bankruptcy, from the sanctions most of the world have applied.
And that's before you consider the internal strife, attempted coups and disappearance of high ranking generals, China's distancing and Ukraine's own SMO into Russia's Kursk Oblast.
Is the break up of Russia worth Putins madness in Ukraine ?
Militarily Russia is impotent and losing in Ukraine......
    Syria is lost
    Georgia is revolting
    Chechnya persueing blood feuds
    Moldo voted for EU

Syria licked the Russians out and want to be friends with Israel and NATO.Abkazia kicked the Russians out and want to rejoin Georgia.
Georgian people are trying to kick out their Kremlin finger puppet PM. Their Parliament is closed down and the people are not even bothering to listen to the government anymore. They're ruling themselves and it's working just fine. Turns out people don't actually need politicians.

14:40 on, please remember all, during WWII, Britain was on the backfoot across the entire Empire at the time, allies had capitulated, things looked bleak. The British were forced to retreat many times over, most notably in the desert campaigns, WE Still beat the Nazi's in the end in North Arfrica! Retreating in a calculated way, especially if you have a smaller force is not defeat, it's called being smart!, and Ukraines military has proven they are VERY smart! they can beat putin decisively, provided other democracies hold their nerve!

And to make matters worse for Putin, he has to keep Assad around as a reminder. Kicking him out of Russia would only send an even worse message to potential allies (e.g. - "Not only do I not have your back, I want nothing to do with your front. Don't bother me - I'm busy.)
"Means and ends" should have been aligned two years ago!!! Now Putin only has to hang on until Trump's inauguration.

Possibly as some counterweight against Israel; Turkey and all the other players great and small inside and outside Syria. So there was no longer a point in fighting and dying for the lazy corrupt Arabs in Sandboxistan.

The funny part of this reporting is the implication that Russia was a big military force in Syria and now suddenly it's not. Russia was fighting against an untrained military, civilian rebels. My memory of the war in Syria, is the incident where the United States contacted Russia basically telling them to get their troops out of an area where they were harassing US troops. Biden warned them, Putin denied he had any troops there, because they were Wagner, and Putin was still pretending at that time that Wagner were not his guys. So the US said okay they're not your guys? And destroyed every last one of them inside 1 hour. Then Biden called Putin back and said you're right there are no Russians there anymore. Russia has never been a big military that was any threat to the United States. United States, just never had Syria as a priority. Yes we have troops there, and we haven't lost any to the syrians or the Russians. Anyone given the United States credit for what the Syrian rebels have done is missing the mark. Russia just got too busy in Ukraine, and a bunch of civilian syrians kicked out the remaining Russians. That's the reality of what happened in Syria.
