@@Hirnlego999 That's true, Vince was *the* founder (if we had to pick one) and original driving force behind Depeche Mode. He was the only one who really took the band seriously at first, and he was the one who brought everyone together. And he wrote nearly all of their songs at the time, too. He was also the one who called up Alison Moyet to form Yazoo, and wrote their first song "Only You". And he auditioned about 40 singers, choosing Andy Bell, to form Erasure. How many people have put together and founded *three* highly successful, noteworthy bands, as well as played a critical role in their success as a member? Probably not that many.

When bands play 'studio' shows like this (think morning wake up show), the technical staff simply isn't equipped to mix live music. Unfortunately this means bands like Erasure have to lip sync. Disappointing yes, but it's the only was sometimes.
OMG im sure this was the pebble mill at one studio!! crap if im right then im too old to know this but these guys were my total fantasy in my youth and i love them still xx
That's a good question. Vince used to own a DX7, of course, and made some use of it for a while, but he never liked it, it's not part of his synth arsenal anymore, and it hasn't been for many years (decades, actually). Those things were ubiquitous back in the day, given their low cost, and initially exciting because of the then-new FM synthesis (which is the type that IBM PC computers and clones first used on a widespread basis, once sound cards were supported). Unfortunately, I think few artists really could get past the kinds of sounds it usually made, and everything started sounding kind of samey. Vince couldn't get the sounds he wanted out of it nearly as easily as he could with analogue synths, so he stopped using the DX7. Maybe in the case of this video, it was just a convenient prop to use for miming (live sound on such TV shows was rare back in those days, as the studios just weren't set up for it). Martin Gore of Depeche Mode also owned a DX7, but he, too, eventually hit a wall in using it, so he brought it on stage to use as a MIDI controller rather than for its sounds. You can't really see it, but for example, in _101_ (video documentary for the _Music for the Masses_ tour), the DX7 is the bottom keyboard on Martin's dual stand, and he appears to play it the most. On the top is an E-mu Emax HD SE sampler keyboard for backup, while the DX7 triggered an Emax HD SE rack-mounted unit located off to the side. By the way, as I think you know, Vince does own and use some digital synths, even samplers, as well as software synths. But most of his sounds come from analogue synths, as you said, and he does prefer to work with them.
Actually, Vince didn't like the DX7 very much. Among digital synths, he preferred the Casio CZ-101, which was even cheaper and, in his and my opinions, easier to use and sounded better. He also made extensive use of the Sequential Circuits Prophet VS on some of Erasure's albums, along with the PPG Wave 2.2, Roland D-550 (rack-mounted D-50), and Waldorf Microwave XT (rack-mounted Microwave). Of course, the vast majority of his synths are vintage analogue. In the case of this video, he probably just brought it as a prop to mime on, since nearly everything on TV was mimed and lip-synced back then. Not to denigrate the DX7, which was high quality yet affordable, but it was perhaps a little too popular, making a lot of records sound similar, and few artists really mastered how to use it. Vince knew and liked analogue synths the best, and while they're all unique, they more or less work similarly to each other, while the DX7 required musicians to learn a whole new way of generating sound that perhaps wasn't quite as direct and intuitive for them. I guess Vince didn't consider it worth his time to really learn FM synthesis just to make the most out of one synth, when he had plenty of others in his arsenal to choose from.
I make high quality Acapella and Instrumental from the original track. I'll be happy if you listen. Erasure - The Circus (Remix) (ACAPELLA) UKAMIX HQ+32bit
