It’s a sad fact that in parts of London ( where I live ) the police have failed the local communities so badly that in many areas, residents have clubbed together and now pay for private security to patrol the local suburbs 24/7, to fill the vacuum left by the lack of community policing. In other words, people have given up on the expectation that the police are looking out for them. All the crimes of burglary and car theft remain unsolved. But if you take a camera out and video, the police arrive in no time. And question you like a criminal. It’s a terrible damnation upon a failed organisation.
They are too scared to police these areas for fear of being called racist.

Eventually they tried to come across as reasonable. However, not before trying to bend rules. Note the standard now approach of hands in pockets, showing the utmost disrespect. Then asking for your details without stating they you are under no obligation to provide these. The NPCC memo is clear, when asking a photographer for details you must also tell them they are under no obligation to provide these. Funny how they seem to forget this.
Then the Moron with the tattoos got really petty about standing on private property. Obviously no signs, free access & nobody had asked you not to previously, so not even a trespass & even if it were, this would be a ivil matter.

Great work mat12128. It was quite interesting how the attitude of these two police constables changed as soon as it was 'revealed' that they were dealing with an 'auditor'. Their attitude from the start - their natural attitude - was somewhat lacking and they seemed indifferent about the need to advise the subject they were recording. As stated the attitude changed perhaps when they realised the 'auditor' in question would most likely have a considerable following on RUclips / Social Media and they had to be on best behaviour and potentially judged on their actions. It is interesting how they quickly change attitude when being filmed (especially in front of an 'audience' which may include their bosses). Fantastic work mat12128 - many thanks and well done.

It's amazing how many of them think that that it should work both ways when they're told they should inform when they switch their cameras on. It actually seems to baffle them when it's pointed out to them.

Your style of undercover auditing is the best way to do it. We get to see how they treat people who they think may not know their rights. Plods attitude only changed after he realised you were an auditor. I also like the way you wait a good while before mentioning their failure to warn you that their body-cams are recording, too many auditors ask immediately which gives plod the opportunity to pretend they were just about to tell you. Keep up the good work!

@@mat12128 You should stop telling them about their cameras, then when you request the footage and it repeatedly shows them tampering with it or trying to deny it exists when you clearly have it on your camera as recording then they might learn if the higher up's get wind of what it and start sending out those memo's they love to ignore. Also BWC's shouldn't be used when a copper is having a general conversation with a member of the public they are only meant to be used when attending propper criminal incidents.

Yea, it is very petty. When applying for planning permission, a gate can’t usually be placed on the boundary because there must be space off of the road/pavement for a vehicle to wait for the gates to open when entering the site. When Mat said they need signs, plod said it was above his pay grade which should’ve made him realise that there’s no issues with the public walking up to the gate as that is how it was designed by people way above his pay grade.

Let me say at the outset - I live in Clacton. But I am surprised to see two of our finest actually standing up being counted (so to speak). I see so much crime going on in Clacton that I genuinely thought that our officers were all asleep or possibly even in a coma. Certain elements of our local society just carry on as if they will never get caught (and actually they are quite correct in that thought) - scooters (two up - no helmets - speeding) - number plates - not wearing seat belts - speeding - two up on quad bikes (actually in the snow whilst towing a sled with a 7 year old on it). Why ON EARTH do we pay them???
The Home Office INSTRUCTED all forces to include in their code of conduct the need to notify the subject at the earliest possible moment that the BWV had been activated.
The use of BWV is almost universal yet police officers very rarely inform subjects that filming is occurring. It would seem such footage is then covert and illegal under GDPR as it is not authorised by a senior officer, as it must be. I think it is time for auditors to pull the legal angle on this abuse, an open door in my opinion.

3:54 Matt is still around at the gate because the whole point of a hobby taking pictures of cars is that one car is not enough. Any photographer wants to get multiple pictures so that they can pick and choose the best ones. They won't know which is the best until they've got back home and reviewed the photos. Even though the cop has no understanding of how a photographer works, he thinks it's within his remit to decide how the photographer should take the pictures. Yet when the public tell the police how to do their job they close their ears or ask if they are a lawyer or if they understand the police's job.
"We've had an incident recently where someone was trying to peer over the wall" - call out the riot squad & the SAS - obviously a major national security incident.
Taller walls then, but drones negate that, so the chess match continues. So how about being less paranoid about your over fence / walls activities then?

We want to see you acting in a professional and open way., The public love it if you are more approachable from the beginning. That doesn’t mean you aren’t alert. Matt handled it like a pro but he could also have wiped up the floor with you. Making a fuss over a bit of driveway.🙄 You don’t see it because you live your life that way mixing with those of similar perspective. The public hears petty. So just ease up. Easy to establish that Matt was no threat by basic conversation. Plus not informing about cameras is a breach of GDPR and of basic privacy rights. So respect it. Just be open it builds trust. Not doing so makes it inadmissible anyway .

Just shows the polices priority these days. Crime is secondary to someone with a camera. Funny how they never have enough staff to investigate burglaries yet here are 2 talking to you Matt about stepping on to a little bit of a driveway, that has a solid gate in front of it, that these 2 consider as private. Yep priority of the police constantly changes when you are in front of a gate that leads into a police car park. 3:25 The whole country follows the MI5 threat levels and that was *lowered* in Feb of this year back to the lowest it's ever been. So there are in effect no real heightened security threats around.
Seen several audits where the police were asked what exactly the current threat level was.....yet to see one where they actually know.

I love auditing, the police show themselves up to not know the law and be really petty. They didn't even need to stop and ask any questions, nothing you were doing was illegal or needed their attention yet they stop asking you what you're doing, ask for your details, get petty over a few inches of land and waste time for no reason when they should be investigating crimes that have happened. I reported a crime and have CCTV evidence of the crime but was told there was insufficient evidence so the police wouldn't investigate yet they never bothered to collect the CCTV so they could investigate.
Hi mat, at about two minutes or so the police car comes out and in their desperate rush to get your name they park in a very bad place as far as consideration of other road users. Then for over a minute spews out the usual copwaffle all the nonsense about 'high alert' and private property, after standing there you try to tell them how it really is you get the yes but!, the thing they all say when you have told them something they don't want to hear!, that seems like prejudice. When you pick him up on the use of BWC, he again argues that because you are and didn't tell him he does not have to tell you!, what a pillock!, the point you make only applies to the police, that if they don't tell you they can't use it as evidence, that does not apply to you at all!.
The persistent need to keep people away does suggest they have something to hide!, what are they doing in there that they don't want us to see?.
All in all not the worst of encounters just another day at the office!.
