If you'd like to see it, here is some of the Mass Effect 3 armor I built for my son. imgur.com/a/AjSOx Here he is just wearing the torso armor, I have the legs and arms done and they fit pretty well. I just need to do a little more painting and it is done.
+00meat Plays I useda vaccuformer I built it using some peg board and a little wood to make a box, the plastic I used was just a bunch of disposable plastic plates from Walmart. Total cost of plastic+straps+expanding foam was about 20-30 bucks.
pro tip: for the love of god don't only use hot glue on the belt, use a combo of hot glue and super glue other wise the belt will fall apart. I wore this costume to a convention and the foam detail came off before I even got to the convention center
