This is what made great weekend tv. Pure passion and entertainment. Wolfs antics. Lots of laughs and it encouraged young people to get fit. I dont know how long this reboot will last. But its so great to see it back regardless.
The interesting thing which seems to have been learned over the past few years, is the skill of not changing something. There was a time, particularly from around the mid 90's, where there was a misguided need to alter things way too much, for no real reason. I'm thinking of disasters such as Jim Davidson's Generation Game, The 1995 Krypton Factor, The final series of Telly Addicts, series' 7 and 8 of Noel's House Party. Some things require change as time progresses, but it's about knowing what to leave well alone and how far to take change when it has to occur. Until a few years ago, the train of thought would have been that you couldn't just completely mimic the old series because it would look old fashioned. So they'd revamp the theme tune, redesign the set, bring in all manner of changes to distance it from the 90's. But here, we just straight up have the old theme tune, graphics which match the original look, same set design. Even the clothing of the Gladiators is proper 90's. And when you look at other recent revivals, such as The Big Breakfast and The Crystal Maze, they've been more inclined to just recreate the show as it always was, rather than try to reinvent it. My mind instantly heads towards Knight Rider, as a prime example of where attempted reboots failed due to unwelcome change. All the fans ever wanted was what it originally was. But producers couldn't accept that a show with early 80's styling could ever work in that form years later. Gladiators might be a standout lesson in just keeping what was originally created, if it works well enough. You don't need to try and reinvent the wheel.
The BBC have got this spot on. I notice the action replay graphics are similar to the 90's version, the theme is the same and some of the events are the same. Absolutely brilliant, a blast from the past, awesome.
"They're so ripped they make Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson look like a pebble" had me rolling My personal favourites are Nitro, Giant, Apollo(Obviously ❤), Diamond, Sabre, and Dynamite The others are cool as well but these guys are my personal favourites
you know i started watching this thinking i would hate it but ended up loving it, Not watered down just as brutal and we have the new Wolf lol. Even the opening credits wasnt cut short like i was expecting longer if anything
Not really, they butchered the theme music. Cut out a big chunk from the start, then edited in extra bits at the end. Just sounded weird. Rest of the show was great though! :)
I mean of course it's not going to be exactly as we remembered the 90s version, but these new gladiators are definitely good, my favourites are nitro and fury, nitro because he's always smiling, and fury because she represents born deaf athletes. Plus being an international rugby union player.
The producers of the show have done very well here. They’ve retained enough about the original programme to make it nostalgic for the 30+ year-olds, whilst giving it enough energy to be appealing to the youngsters. They’ve cast the Gladiators well, too. A good bunch. My only minor gripe would be that - having retained the traditional theme tune - they then haven’t retained any of the traditional music for the specific events. Please bring back the original Eliminator music. Likewise, for Dual and Hang Tough. The background music for these events seems largely forgettable otherwise. Any minor criticism aside though, thank you for resurrecting a Saturday night classic.
I don't mind reboots being different to the original, but visually having a modernized version of the originals aesthetic is much nicer than the Sky reboot, where everything looked so bland.
So much better than then time Sky tried to reboot it. So glad they got the original theme and made the arena look like the original from the 90s but just tweaked it a bit.

Yes, Gladiators brings back the original theme song in the opening title better than the different theme song in the opening title in the failed Sky series era between the 11th May 2008 and the 25th October 2009.
I've been rewatching the 90's episodes this last week & I can confirm as someone who grew up with this, they did a phenomenal job recreating the magic of the original, the new Gladiators are already giving me character & the host's did well, I hope they grow in confidence as the show progresses... Honestly, whilst it's a pity the rest of the soundtrack was a bit lackluster (has the opposite problem of the Sky One Reboot's overly serious score which I still like bits of where this one is too mild) and thought the Ring is skewered way too easily in favour of the contender (should work more like Pyramid), I thought it was fine. We'll see how the rest of the season goes.
The competitors are meant to score a lot in Ring, but that's why they play against each other at the same time, so that the high scores are the crux of the competition. I think the alternative, a far lower scoring grapple fest, would have gotten extremely boring, and it's probably okay for the direct 1-on-1 competitor games to trend towards higher scores as a result

Only presenting as my dad’s famous son.
I didn’t enjoy it viper was cringe. It’s just a miss
They need to draft Wolf in to give him some anger management classes.
I know right. Feels like they are trying to be Ant and Dec as well
Just watched it the gladiators have zero personality its pretty cringey tbh
They get a bit better by episode 3
On a scale of 1 to "non binary they/they, white privilege, toxic masculinity Rraacccciiissstttt", how woke will this show be?
-10.
Its not woke in the slighest 😂 people are so miserable
It was OK definitely not anywhere near as good as the original version and they gone WOKE where are the cheerleaders they got rid of the cheerleaders
Right wing nut jobs tend to use the word "woke" more than those who devised the term these days.
