    The best eggs I have ever had in my life. Core memory.

    Thanks for the laughs, the pauses, and amen to "none of those memories are worth replacing our new life in Christ!" And I gotta tell you, Brad and I were splitting a gut over you saying you're getting old when you forgot what you were saying in the middle of your sentence. Join the club! Love it. Thanks you guys! We're in our 60s btw.

    We used to have hymn sings after cocoa, mostly the youth. It really was some of the best singing...I learned to sing alto and high tenor from the meetings and hymn sings!
    Our convention candy of choice was Mentos. My grandma would have her camper stocked and we'd go fill our Bible cases between meetings. She also had a fridge full of Reeses and A&W root beer. Those will always go together in my mind, and remind me of convention and my grandma. ❤️

    Hey David - Enjoyed your Wed night bible study memories and remember a few nights of playing outside at your place after mtg, too. Thank you for the effort you are putting in toward these videos. Amazing who you run into on the internet :) Marty, tell Beth hi from Adara!

    Loved your mention of "blinders". I learned recently about sheep that they have excellent peripheral vision but their forward vision lacks depth perception. Sheep do not typically have blinders on and for good reason- it is actually dangerous for them rather than providing protection. And yet, we as sheep have had blinders on, no wonder we start seeing when the "blinders" are removed.

    The last few years I went to convention in NC we had BBQ sandwiches with trimmings for Sunday lunch. Delicious!
    Also, I have good memories of the super friendly people at SC convention. The people were so welcoming and kind. Also, it was a smaller convention so easier to get to know people.

    At our convention the workers always sat at the end table so I assumed it was that way everywhere. So, visiting another conv I sat down at a middle table with my cousin and worker uncle (it was the worker's table and nobody said anything to us cuz we were with a worker) and asked the lady next to me if she was from around there. There was a long silence and then she's like well I labor in so and so.... I was some embarrassed.

    I remember the plate flipping. I was so little though. Like they served Ball tapioca. We slept in a barn loft. There was running water though. No one ever wanted to play with me cause I was a the only lil Native/indigenous kid. One year I had a friend during convention.

    My dad always had smarties which has to be one of the worst candies known to man haha. I enjoyed running into the laundry room and talking with my nana and aunts. We got in trouble one year for playing football in the parking lot. The bunks at night was the absolute best! I will always remember the day my uncle Les introduced me to spray cheese from the can one year. Getting really good at catching flies in meetings. Gotta eat fast if you want one of the good cookies. Then when we got older we would go on walks with our crush maybe even hold hands. Passing notes in meeting. Doesn’t matter how many seat pillows you could gather the chairs were still uncomfortable. Good times :)

    With the comments about separate cocoa or "night lunch" for the workers and the mention of egg salad sandwiches you had to have Boyden, IA convention in mind. Both apply to that convention, also the separate dining table for the workers. Starbursts were always a favorite conv. candy along with gummi bears. My husband went to his 1st convention at about 5 days old, this is now our 2nd yr of not going. When the weather starts to cool and the crickets start to chirp my thoughts always go to it being convention time.

    South Dakota and North Dakota and I would imagine many other places now have disposable plates and live forks and spoons .
    Egg salad sandwiches are the bomb.
    Ugggg the pit toilets. At Black Hills convention on Cobbs Farm there was a very large women's pit toilet. U shaped seating area, no walls or privacy whatsoever.

    I liked the abundant convention candy. At Duncan I liked picking blackberries in between meetings and watching the eagles soar. I did enjoy the bottomless coffee and the four days away from everything. I never was one to spend lots of time chatting with everyone. I liked to sit in my chair by my tent, read, draw, think and chill. Does anyone remember the parabolic mics they’d aim at people during testimonies to pick up their voice better? 80’s timeframe. I also remember looking up at the big fans in the shed and trip out as they went one way then looked to go the other. I think it was a survival thing. I only had to do #1 at convention. Which is remarkable considering how much I ate. 😂 my best memory is meeting my Wife at convention ❤️ A couple years ago a mouse came running out from under the platform at Duncan and caused a bit of chaos around the brother worker benches. That was pretty funny.

    6:50. They still have the boilers and use them to heat the water for the kitchen at both Hector and EB. Paper plates and disposable utensils replaces the washable ones.

    This Reminds Me Of This Hymn
    Satisfied
    All my life long I had panted
    For a drink from some cool spring,
    That I hoped would quench the burning
    Of the thirst I felt within.
    Jesus, Saviour, I have found Him,
    Whom mine eyes with joy have seen!
    Jesus satisfies my longing;
    By His blood I am redeemed.
    Feeding on the husks around me,
    Till my strength was almost gone,
    Longed my soul for something better,
    Only still to hunger on.
    Poor I was and sought for riches,
    Something that would satisfy;
    But the dust I gathered round me
    Only mocked my soul’s sad cry.
    Well of water, ever springing;
    Bread of life, so rich and free;
    Untold wealth that never faileth
    My Redeemer is to me.

    So since God has put His people everywhere, do you not think some of those are "friends and workers?"

    • @davidalink
      @davidalink  Месяц назад +1

      Yes, some, but the all most all of the doctrine of the friends and workers is not biblical-> so false teachers wouldn't be Christians.
