Your eyes, I wasn't born to follow I can survive, you always try To enslave my free mind You followed me in your dreams Hiding, but on my trail You found me Follow me Now your eyes, I wasn't born to follow I can survive, you always try (To enslave) my free mind
they were around at the same time, moving in the same circles. Only on opposite sides of the Atlantic. Prong is perhaps catchier. Godflesh is undoubtedly heavier. And far bleaker. But then again, no band in my opinion has ever got close to what Justin and Benny were able to create with this unit. It is the music of mind body and soul annihilation. I don't think much of the human race - which is perhaps why I am drawn to this beautiful, beautiful music. But it's a strange paradox, no? It took two humans (with a little guest help and a drum machine) to make this astonishing music.
I like them because of the xnoybis tribute, also a use of something already done cmen to think of it, pretty specific title to reuse verbatim but when I wanted the rock group name The Farts there was already a The Farts as well as a The Fartz. I think for song titles some are simple enough to not be a big deal but if they do it very many more times it might turn into a scripted bit about how their next album is gonna have tracks called These Boots Are Made For Walkin, Cat Scratch Fever and Great Gig In The Sky
Or neer stop fighting never and never forgive those would dare despoil my fathers temple by doubting his words of power. You can never win my Father and His Holy ghost by diluting his chosen Sons Language. Get in those Druge pits.
If you want heavy, listen to the planet crushing bass tone on their next album Selfless. But what is heaviness? Tis in the ear of the beholder. If by heavy you mean thick with a lot of bottom end, then no this isn't particularly heavy. If by heavy you mean the kind of soul scouring nihilism and alienation Godflesh evoke, then you're never likely to hear anything as heavy in your whole lifetime.
Tomi A That's all that counts! Didn't mean to come off like a douche. Just happened to be reading over the notes on this album & saw it was 92 as I had this on here & saw that comment.
Some of the chords in this song are truly euphoric.
Your eyes, I wasn't born to follow
I can survive, you always try
To enslave my free mind
You followed me in your dreams
Hiding, but on my trail
You found me
Follow me
Now your eyes, I wasn't born to follow
I can survive, you always try
(To enslave) my free mind
This is my all time favorite cardio workout album. Perfect mid tempo machine like efficiency.

Still remember this from back in the 90's. Nice mix of heavy guitar and samples. Whole thing reminds me a little of Prong.

For newcomers, this is not a cover of the Byrds song 😄

Imagine if Godflesh actually did cover that song..

Who said this was heavy,,this is not heavy folks
agree it is not heavy at all, did someone say it was heavy?

If it's heavy you seek, listen to Phantasmagoria or Enter the Worms by Godflesh compatriots Cathedral....
Perhaps you're not getting the song's vibe, it's for a certain type of undescribable heaviness.
this song is heaven-inspired, so light, you're right
I Wasn't Born to Swallow.
The year was 1991, i was listening to this, c-cassette from my LP, alone in my Nissan. Just driving.
This came out in 1992
