It depends, if the church wants a praise brake, you overplay with groove, but if you guys want to stay nice and simple during the slow songs, it's better 🙂
Just played this song like 2 weeks ago in a service 🔥 I know my piano player woulda hated and said "it's too much/busy" but that timing was clean man 🙌🏾
What has the stamped sticking got to do with anything? The drummer plays a 6/8 on the bass drum and snare. The bass drum on counts one and snare drum on counts four. When numbering each eight. The hi hat however is a shuffle pattern in 4/4 but polyrhythmic to the 6/8.He is playing a 4 over 6. The bass drum is on count one and the snare count four of the 6/8. The hi hat is figured by first dividing the eights into sixtinths and then grouping those into groups of three. The shuffle is achieved by playing the first and third note of each triplet set. Together you get this cool groove. The sticking above is a ten note hybrid rudiment that I fail to see or hear in this clip . Am I mistaken though?
Oh wait, the sticking is for the flashy hi hat to auxiliary cymbal lick played near videos end. The sticking is correct so and the feature of the video clear now. That said, his 4 over 6 is worth noting and a study all it's own. Hats off to the drummer!
Needless to say, the ten note lick is played as part of the four and so he rejoins the groove for the remaining 6 16ths to resolve the four count. He plays the 10 note lick and then plays 3/8 time to the resolving one count of the next bar
It looks like it's just 32nd note triplet singles, as soon as he hits the snare with the left hand it's singles between the stack and the hi hat whilst keeping the left hand on the hi hat the whole time
I love it when the notes are clean.
No over playing.
u r right, but u missed " groove " 😅

My cousin is a drum player for his church and I thought he was good . But he needs to learn that😅😅😅😅
Dawg its just 4/4 with a waltz/swing feel you have a deep pocket tho
It's a 3/4 song, but his playing makes it sound as you think
lol no it’s not. It’s 4/4 half beat. 3/4 would only have 3 beats per the bar.
@@jaredthornhill6989erm actually I believe it’s 6/8 🤓
@@joshualemondrums hey if you can grove to it in 6/8 go for it. Metronome staying through it is definitely 4/4. But music is an art so all good here
@@jaredthornhill6989As a composer for choirs I'm certain this song is in 3/4.
dayuuum 🔥🔥
