    *Don't forget to let me know if you know other guitarists that uses quartal chord voicings, or fourth chords, extensively. After making the video, I remembered one person who I left off the list. Fellow NYC guitarist Paul Bollenback.*

    I really appreciate all these it’s strange because as a guitarist I use the Guitar as my main tool for arranging even in Ches and orchestral settings and find myself often writing especially for horns in stacked fourths :-)

    Inspiring, Adam, thanks! Nice to tap back into this stuff again since my uni study days. Got me working my 'wrong pentatonics' over that A7, too (Gmin pent and/or Gmin7b5 triad/arpeggio). Been experimenting with that lately; these little clusters go well with it.
    ps, Robben Ford, often randomly in solos, or rhythm guitar back in his more fusion-y Miles Davis days.
    And...Joe Dorio?

    • @JazzRockswithAdam
      @JazzRockswithAdam  2 года назад +1

      Awesome dude! Glad you dug it. I agree totally with Robben but I wouldn’t put him in the category of using it extensively. Joe probably would more so fit in that category for sure.

      Oh, I think you mean the Ed Bickert video. The same thing applies there too. Just use my ears. A big part of it is to roll 80-90% of the treble off on your guitar.

    Great video. But I couldn’t tell too much difference between your quartered spread and traditional voicing chords. The quartered sounded a little more ambiguous I suppose. You have for sure practiced away sounding like a backing track guitar.

    • @JazzRockswithAdam
      @JazzRockswithAdam  3 года назад +2

      Erique, yes the quartal voicings are definitely more ambiguous. Those voicings might only have the 3rd, or just the 7th, or no 3rd and 7th at all. Those are the notes that make a chord identifiable. The modal voicings might only have #9-#5-b9 in it. Thanks for watching and your comment!

      It’s been a while since I’ve heard that. And he could have been using some voicings like that for a certain song or recording, but overall Jim didn’t use those chords extensively. Thanks for the interest in my videos and for leaving a comment!

    Adam Smale very good especially sharing this. However there some mistakes in the tabs you are showing.
    First one is with the A7alt one has a natural 9. In the licks of Dm7 G7 Cmaj7 you put 788 on the tab but it is 777. The quartel voices are good but you have too mention that some are the II chords or V chords and that is the reason that some sound a little bit different. This is no attack at you because i really like your video and really appreciate your lesson.

    • @JazzRockswithAdam
      @JazzRockswithAdam  2 года назад +2

      Thanks for pointing those things out. When you’re a one-man operation sometimes things slip through the cracks.

      @@JazzRockswithAdam I understand we are al human so mistake is normal. I also studied quartel harmony on guitar for quite some time. I am also a big fan of Lenny and mccoy tyner. I think you are one of the best who is playing in his style. So keep.up the good work. Maby someday I will give also some lessons about piano style comping on the guitar. I have a quistion for you how do you play dominant 7 chords non altered in quartel voicings. By the way I am a professional guitar player. Hope to hear from you.

      @@radjeshgopal2287 I play the same voicings I would use for a iim7. If you’re thinking G7, on strings 5-4-3, you could also play F-B-E. Again if you’re thinking G7, essentially, you could play on strings 5-4-3 again, bar the 5th, 7th, the one I just mentioned F-B-E, 10th, 12th, and 14th fret for G7/G9 sound. Hope all that makes sense.
