Galthié's genius is on analysis of the game, his players and his himself. He knows that he's not a good manager, that's why he choosed Ibañez as manager. Also his capacities to get a very strong staff is impressive. Everyone is talking about Edwards, but the truth is that Vlok Cilliers and Thibaud Giroud are more important and impactful to France's team than Edwards. Also, Garcès is very important, he turned France into one of the most top 10 team penalized, in one of the less penalized in a very short time
Rassie did really well to win the world cup, but I still prefer Farrel and Galthie, the style of rugby those two teams bring to the table makes rugby exciting again, although I am loving Nieabers move towards a more expressive south african team. But wouldnt mind the next coach for SA to be John Dobson!
Rassie' 65% win rate is due to the initial period when he just took over, where the springboks were outside the top 5 in the rankings. They lost to Italy, they also lost 57-0 to the all blacks.. most senior players retired, like Matfield, Botha, Burger, Habana and many more.. He had to start from scratch. So to go from that, inside 18 months to winning the RWC, B&I Lions tour, the URC trophy and most other games is remarkable.
The difficulty to build a world cup winning team from South Africa's diverse population, and politicians needs to be recognized. I rate Eddie Jones and Cheika but they won't last a day in the jungle.
Good list. I'd like to know NH ppls opinions regarding Gregor Townsend. He seems to get some fantastic performances out of the Scotland team, but I'm not sure what his credentials really are. Re the list, I personally would look at Jamie Joseph and Tony Brown. They won super rugby with a Landers team with only a couple of international stars, and got Japan into 2019 rwc quarterfinals
Scotland play a lot more "heads up" rugby under Townsend than they did with Andy Robinson, Scott Johnson and even Vern Cotter (who I think was the better coach if I'm being honest) so they're now a much more exciting team to watch...but struggle mentally and can't easily convert pressure into points. A lot of their tries come from breaks and questionable opposition defence. Van Der Merwe's try against England and their loss to France in this year's 6N are the best examples. His contract is on the line I think in France...their pool is tough but technically I think they're capable of beating SA (but not Ireland) as their pack has actually been very good. But I think their attitude is still a case of "beating this team will be an outstanding achievement, but if we lose valiantly there are lots of positives to take" rather than "we can and will win the tournament".
Great video and commentary. Now I'm thinking about my own top 5 ... In no particular order: Robertson, Farrell, Galthie, Jones & maybe Gatland. Rassie best by far. Farrel's Ireland looked really rattled in the last 6 nations game, until Freddie was sent off. Ireland does not have consistent BMT. Ireland and France are going to get pummeled physical by the Boks.
Andy Farrel owes a lot to the Leinster coaches and his assistants, but seems to have clicked, it took a while, Ireland werent great his first 18 moinths in charge, dunno if erasmus can really be there with a 65% win record, i reckon the world cup will show whose the best.

Don't forget Eddie Jones is loved in the SH but got sacked by England because they started losing a lot under him at the end. An honourable mention for Warren Gatland who under his first tenure was the most successful coach in the history of Welsh Rugby. No real success in Super rugby but returns and in five short games had brought Wales from flashy sloppy and unstructured to mediocre and structured, which is an improvement.
Razor so far has only won against other SH rugby teams, outside of the juniors at least. His record against NH opposition is 0-3. His Crusaders team were noticeably the province worst beaten by the midweek B&I Lions in 2017. That's the main reason some fans had reservations about his elevation to the All Blacks job, despite his NPC and Super Rugby record, and many still do.
You can never judge a coach without taking the team into consederation. Therefor I dont think this is important at all. I mean if Eddy Jones is not popular in England does it makes him a not so good coach? What about the All Black coaches, in my mind the All Black coahes surely played a big role in the performance of the All Blacks who is most of the time about the best team in the world?
Quite agree. Foster is the last rung of a succession plan agreed to 8 + 10 years ago regardless of how the game and coaching skills have rapidl progressed.
You may as well include Matt Wiliams😅😅😅. A best coach can only be judged by his greatest achievement. In rugby that greatest achievement is winning the world cup. Rassie is the man🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦
Just want to say love your channel, great insight.......even for an Aussie. However, to leave Wayne Smith off this list is a travesty. Mastermind behind 4 Super Rugby titles (2 as coach 2 as Assistant) , 2 Men's World Cup's (Henry and Hansen merely pawns), 2 Japanese Titles, and a Women's World Cup as massive underdogs. The Professor is king. Also my old man would kill me if I didnt mention Carwyn James.
hard to take you serious, Jamie surely has to be fourth equal and i think you should coach a national team or have to be a elite, scotty without a doubt is very good but he too has had a average year record wise been beaten twice by the same coach by a record @ home with his biggest losing margin, and that coach in my opinion was made to look silly by Brad. By far the best rugby played this year was that heineiken cup quarter final id kick the yarpies only any good at home and made to look average that top 14 is a decent comp. i hope you watched these game, i do cause super is crap and dying even the slow addle brained currie cup is better.
With Eddie’s record of failure (he has almost never been successful anywhere for more than 2 years, fired by wallabies 06, reds wooden spoon in 07, let go from saracens and England) and living off previous coaches work means I can’t take him seriously as a “top” coach
I almost stopped listening when you mentioned Clive Woodward……had 8 years to form a team. What SH team would have given that time? My proof is the Lions team to NZ… more money and time than any before but still a 3-0. No respect for that so called “sir”
There isnt a better coach as rassie,he even make players springboks even if not so good...onther reason is it is the most difficuilt team ans circumstance to coach(poketics, differ race ethnic groups etc).....and to take a team out off a deep dark hole and win the ab's ,and the wc in 18months....it speaks for itself...
A coach that has not coached in South Africa cannot be counted. In South Africa we have political dictatorship which has cost us world cups in cricket and has cost our top coaches their jobs. Mallet , White , etc. Rassie has the diplomacy to work with these odds. Few could. Dont mistake my comments for being against black elite sportsmen. Im very much for them and support and proud of them. Its our defunct polititians that are incapable of building our country but for some reason arround elections threaten teams as well as the Springbok emblem. Rassie has to work against or with that mentality. Eddie would not last a week in SA . He to blunt and doesnt tolerate bullshit. 😅😅
Rassie is miles beyond any other, remember he also needs to deal with qouta systems and world rugby's opposing attitude towards the Boks, something that every bok couch in history had to deal with, but unlike his predecessors he just decided to call them out on it.
lol, eddie jones has gone through 69 support staff in the last 6 years. people cant fkn stand the guy. the team manager for wallabies now is manager for the highlanders, who isnt afraid to share his opinion to others on how demanding he is. i wouldn't call him a great coach
All this Rassie talk, good coach but awful human being. Has brought the game into disrepute on numerous occasions! Flashing lights into opposing teams from stadium roof, making disgusting videos, abusing refs face to face and online... There are 3 top coaches currently, Gatland, Farrell and Galthie. Jones has now gone 4 games without a win lol Gatland is undeniable, and maybe turning Wales into something special again...

I've watched women's rugby for about 20 years. Agree that they're really pushing it and probably linked to the woke stuff, but I reckon they're also pushing it for gambling purposes. Partly because they want more women gambling and also, generally speaking, recreational sports punters stick to the sports they know
I think it is really impressive, in this day and age, that you are willing to admit that you are intimidated by women who are faster, stronger and more skillful than you. Well done 22grena.
@Opal Miner it's not being intimidated it's acknowledging the truth. They push it and exaggerated it. If men were playing the same level of rugby it'd be called trash and no one would take them seriously but because they're women they get a pass I'm sure eventually the rugby will get to a good enough level but as it is now it isn't. Whether they'd be better than him isn't an argument. I just hope it isn't as bad as the nba where they take from the men to support the wnba and still result in a $10m loss never ever having made a profit after 20 years

@@uggy Your content is great bro but ya know what they say "dress for the job you want".
Think of where you want the channel to be in 5 years and design a set that would do that justice.
looking forward to watching the channel grow.
@@_Opal_Miner_ cheers brother good advice! It’s all happening quicker then I thought 😅 see what I can pull together
Rassie best by far. Farrel's Ireland looked really rattled in the last 6 nations game, until Freddie was sent off. Ireland does not have consistent BMT. Ireland and France are going to get pummeled physical by the Boks.
Boks havent beaten ireland in over 7 years and france in 5 years. Where has their physicality been since?
Ronan O'Gara is worth a mention. Better than Rassie
Eddie is such a good coach. his comments about the English were spot on. As a kiwi im loathing that the AB's have to see him again this RWC lol
There’s an English comedy actor called Tom Davis. Check him out, he looks like Jason Ryan
Hahah holy shit! Twins?
wheres wayne smith - he is one of the all time greats
Re do this video after the world cup Rassie will be at the summit
John Dobson!
Andy Farrel owes a lot to the Leinster coaches and his assistants, but seems to have clicked, it took a while, Ireland werent great his first 18 moinths in charge, dunno if erasmus can really be there with a 65% win record, i reckon the world cup will show whose the best.
What do you mean? He is not the current head coach...Nienaber is and Nienaber has a 65% record. he basically tutned South Africa into World Champions in 8 months...Now the Fact that 2023 was actually the year he was trying to build for...ot shows how good he is.
There's no way Eddie Jones is only 4th. Part of the disturbing trend of valuing world cups over everything which I think is wrong.
Razor so far has only won against other SH rugby teams, outside of the juniors at least. His record against NH opposition is 0-3. His Crusaders team were noticeably the province worst beaten by the midweek B&I Lions in 2017. That's the main reason some fans had reservations about his elevation to the All Blacks job, despite his NPC and Super Rugby record, and many still do.
oh yes we can't forget that absolute try fest between the crusaders and Lions.
He has no experience at senior international level and could be found out fairly quickly if he’s not up to it.
10 years ago EJ was a great coach. In his last 2 seasons he was poor as a man-manager, poor in player development and abysmal as a strategist.
I really need him for 6 months 😅😅
@@uggy Yep! That is just about his sell-by date.
@@uggy he will target england just to show his former employers, but dont think he will get past a semi final.
I am an Irish fan but I think Clive Woodward was brilliant. Galthié is special.
2005 BIL’s tour upset that a bit.
I don't think you can put someone on this list who is not yet an international coach. Looking at you Scott Robertson
Fozzie is the worst coach of all time, wish we had Jamie Joseph
🤣🤣 almost put a meme of him as #1
@@uggy would have been crack up lol
@@RugbyLover86 Brad thorn sprung to mine too 😅
Quite agree. Foster is the last rung of a succession plan agreed to 8 + 10 years ago regardless of how the game and coaching skills have rapidl progressed.
At least he's not a crybaby like rassie 😭
As a springbok fan im not excited to see Scott Robertson coaching New Zealand
They will be extremely good then
You may as well include Matt Wiliams😅😅😅. A best coach can only be judged by his greatest achievement. In rugby that greatest achievement is winning the world cup. Rassie is the man🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦
ROG has to be in top 5 now
Just want to say love your channel, great insight.......even for an Aussie.
Thank you sir!! & some great shouts
No Jamie Joseph! WTF
Man should have been the ABs coach over Fozzie the clown
Fair call! I owe learning how to tackle properly to his RUclips videos
Legit ranks on the coaches despite the baity thumbnail 😂
Hahaha 10/10 clickbait
id put Rassie at 1 for his time and the late Kitch number 1 for his time.....
After the world cup Rassie will jump from 2 to 1.
Big call!!
Head sook
Andy Farrell #1
Foster should be in the bottom 5 including all nations
hard to take you serious, Jamie surely has to be fourth equal and i think you should coach a national team or have to be a elite, scotty without a doubt is very good but he too has had a average year record wise been beaten twice by the same coach by a record @ home with his biggest losing margin, and that coach in my opinion was made to look silly by Brad.
I need him for 6 months 🤣
No coachs ego gets more in the way than Eddie
I almost stopped listening when you mentioned Clive Woodward……had 8 years to form a team. What SH team would have given that time? My proof is the Lions team to NZ… more money and time than any before but still a 3-0. No respect for that so called “sir”
Sir Rassie, 18 months from awful to another Webb Ellis trophy 🇿🇦
No disrespect to the coaches on this list, but Rassie is in another league altogether.
A successful club coach doesn’t make you one of the world’s best rugby coaches. IMHO.
Better than picking a coach that never won anything like fozzie
There isnt a better coach as rassie,he even make players springboks even if not so good...onther reason is it is the most difficuilt team ans circumstance to coach(poketics, differ race ethnic groups etc).....and to take a team out off a deep dark hole and win the ab's ,and the wc in 18months....it speaks for itself...
Schmidt built that Irish team and took them to #1 . Schmidt did all the hard work so I wouldn’t rate Farrell #1 probably #5 aye and rassie #1
How good was Rassie on the walkie talkie last week.
Get a life.
Yeah, interesting the difference between the man managers and the chess players... 0
Can’t wait to breakdown the philosophies of coaches, polar opposites often lead to the same outcome. Very fascinating
Rassie “Faf skop die bal weg” Erasmus
‘Both of the Springbok World Cup wins” - naa mate, it’s 3 times.
Ahh got me there 🤣
Rassie is miles beyond any other, remember he also needs to deal with qouta systems and world rugby's opposing attitude towards the Boks, something that every bok couch in history had to deal with, but unlike his predecessors he just decided to call them out on it.
Who can say. The Coach is too highly rated. It's the players who win matches. Coaches can only focus them. The Coach cult belongs to Soccer
i love how we will jut ignore how refs are producing outcomes in games and there are consequences for everybody but them!!
Don't think No 1 coach label is correct . Rassie is still no 1
lol, eddie jones has gone through 69 support staff in the last 6 years. people cant fkn stand the guy. the team manager for wallabies now is manager for the highlanders, who isnt afraid to share his opinion to others on how demanding he is. i wouldn't call him a great coach
Your drunk mates, Erasmus is one of the best period
Did you watch the video? I got him at second!
My apologies mates, your spot on
@@conniemogale5224 😂 my bad, I shouldn’t of gone so clickbait! All love ❤️
Except when he went to Munster and won nothing.
Jones has now gone 4 games without a win lol
Gatland is undeniable, and maybe turning Wales into something special again...
Women’s rugby is a different sport. Not interested in it or channels that think they have to cover it because they have to be woke.
Nice to hear the honesty! I struggle to keep up with most of the men’s competitions & players, couldn’t imagine trying to expand that - I would straight up be pretending!
🇳🇿🇳🇿🇳🇿🇳🇿🇳🇿
I've watched women's rugby for about 20 years. Agree that they're really pushing it and probably linked to the woke stuff, but I reckon they're also pushing it for gambling purposes. Partly because they want more women gambling and also, generally speaking, recreational sports punters stick to the sports they know
I think it is really impressive, in this day and age, that you are willing to admit that you are intimidated by women who are faster, stronger and more skillful than you. Well done 22grena.
@Opal Miner it's not being intimidated it's acknowledging the truth. They push it and exaggerated it. If men were playing the same level of rugby it'd be called trash and no one would take them seriously but because they're women they get a pass
I'm sure eventually the rugby will get to a good enough level but as it is now it isn't.
Whether they'd be better than him isn't an argument.
I just hope it isn't as bad as the nba where they take from the men to support the wnba and still result in a $10m loss never ever having made a profit after 20 years
If I were NZRugby I’d steer well clear of Razor and stick with Fozzie, who is awesome!
How so? His results are mediocre at best and he has a real issue taking criticism. You can't expect to escape criticism and have a cruisy job when you take on the 2nd most important job in NZ! Sorry mate 😎
@@thomasedwardking7286 Everyone outside of NZ knows Fozzie is world class and Razor is a snake oil salesman and a piss poor breakdancer to boot. You’re just too close to the subject to see the obvious.
Huh the way I look at it with fozzie you have a chance with Razor you have no chance 😁
@@Trajan2401 I admire your faith. But I don't think I prescribe to it! Still, I am happy on this occasion if he makes me a believer 🙏

We all know whose the biggest dud as a coach and will likely go out with a whimper in September...
Poor analysis due to lack of proper research. But these are just opinions and therefore subjective, but some of the rationale here is just stupid.
Fozzy isnt even the best coach in NZ
This is nz kak , Rassie is the goat get ur facts right ....
Laughable... WC winning coach not but Cheika yes? You joking right?
It’s just a thumbnail to make people click 😅 cheika isn’t in the video
michael cheika = worst coach
