More fun facts :D Inklings and Octolings have very similar biology to humans (even though they have no bones lol.), but one thing was carried over: Their skin is Hypertonic. Whats that? Simply put, water moves into their skin faster than it moves out. Since Inklings are made of a ink-like subtance, this is amplified. While humans skin simply gets wrinkly. However, Inklings are like water balloons in a way. If too much water flows in, it bursts. Essentially the Inklings and Octolings fill up with too much water to handle, and burst. Same reason why ink splats them, as too much "non compatable" ink enters their bodies BUT IM NOT DONE JUST YET :) Inklings are seen to wear bathingsuits in a few portrayals (such as a few paintings in Inkblot Art Academy and Museum A'Delfonsino). Not to mention, SNORKLES ARE WEARABLE ITEMS. They cant just be for aesthetics, now can they? My theory is that Inklings and Octolings can swim in water and not explode by changing their Inky bodies to become more Isotonic (essentially equal flow of water both in and out). This allows Inklings and Octolings to swim, however, it restricts them from going into Squid/Octo form, as that form is PURE INK, meaning they'd pull a Peter Parker and not feel so well. Think of it like flexing, but instead of muscles, it's more like making yourself more compact. In summary, Inklings and Octolings are Hypertonic in most scenarios to be able to change form and to be able to fight in a more effective way, but can change the structure of their bodies to become isotonic and be able to swim and drink water. Man I should make a theory video off of this :D EDIT: Hypertonic, not Hypotonic. Thank you Motlo for the correction! Edit 2: Thank you for the pin, Trinity :D Glad you liked the theory!
I saw a comment saying that Pearl has talked about her school days in the Octo Expansion, and during the Off The Hook! news. This made me think and come up with the theory that the inklings and octolings go to school everyday, and as you all know, school is mainly during the day, and is let out at around 2-4 PM. This explains why it’s always sunny when we get on and play Splatoon. During Splatfests it’s nighttime. Meaning that this must take place on the weekends when inklings and octolings don’t have to worry about school and can do whatever they want. Sorry if this doesn’t make sense, I’m not much of a writer...
I_SNIPEZ1t that’s not the case at all, cap’n cuttlefish is very old, pearl is an adult, marina is an adult, the squid sisters are adults. There are probably many more that just don’t appear in the story.
Inklings actually do go to school; Pearl has mentioned experiences from her school days during the Off the Hook segments, so there is at least some form of school system for Inkling society.
And in Octo Expansion, when Cap'n reveals the truth behind Marina, Pearl mentions learning about the Octarians in school, but everyone thought that the octopus was extinct.
Inklings and Octolings do in fact go to school, as in a news report, Pearl and Marina were talking about inkblot academy, and Pearl was talking about her school day, and how bad and boring they were. Marina replied in saying “If your grades were same as your multiplayer rank, I wouldn’t be surprised.”
actually Pearl says in one of the Chat Messages from the Octo Expansion that she went to school and the Teacher told them about Octolings so yeah. Inklings go to school.
I've always wondered how their music/talent agency works. There are so many bands and artists in the world of Splatoon and music is such an important part of their society. Also, the octoling afro might be hard to craft for cosplayers unless they want to use their natural hair. :D
More like 90% with the way they dissolve. And there is still that ghost thing that floats away, that thing might be important to their life functions is some way.
Explanation: The octoling Afro is the equivalent of an actual octopus’s head. The head is filled with water or in this case ink, giving it that puffed up look. When the octo-Afro is wearing headgear the shape changes because the headgear has redistributed the ink within the octo-Afro.
Skizzenhaft Top Hut well I mean all inkling and octoling hair is made of flesh filled with ink. It’s just the octo-afro is an octopus head and not tentacles.
He flips the bottoms of his hair up, hiding the suction cups inside the afro. He then trims it up so it fits nicely into a round ball. That's what I think.
3:48 Here’s my head canon: the Salmonoids lived peacefully until Mr. Grizz was like “Imma take these Inklings and make them fight” and so the peace ended. I do not have any grounding for this, I just want to think it.
Actually Salmonids have a trade deal with Octarians, in which Octos give them junk (which is used to either repair or construct the Salmonids weapons) in exchange for power eggs, which is the reason why you find power eggs both in hero mode and salmon run, however the golden eggs that drop from Boss Salmonids are never exchanged as the Salmonids view it as to valuable to them to give them away and would rather die than give them up 'willingly'. And there's a theory Mr. Grizz is actually an Octarian who's using you to get the golden eggs either for himself or the octarians all together, which kinda explains why the egg basket seemingly goes underground after each completed mission before rising up somewhere else.
The identity of Mr grizz is the biggest mystery in the splatoon lore community. we are banging our heads against the walls waiting for a concrete official answer.
@@YunuelYAHR Well, if you open the employees handbook in splatoon 3, then go over to the Goldie seeker section, you'll find that there's a little trivia on the fountains. They got them through trade with Octarians. It's canon man! Also, what made you believe that this "Theory" was destroyed through splatoon 3?
@@ydb82 because *and spoilers alert for everyone who didn't finished the splatoon 3 hero mode* mr. Grizz is the final boss and it's revealed he's actually some sort of bear that wants to bring the mammals back with the fuzzy ink.
Do they age? Where are the adults? Where are the babies? Are there fat inklings? How does their skin color work? Are there outcast inklings who don't play turf war? Who is Mr Grizz? Why are you stealing golden eggs? What are golden eggs? How are they made? WHO IS MR GRIZZ??? If he's a bear, are there other animals too? There are birds, but are there any other animals? What exactly HAPPENED to the humans? How do inklings change color? How do inklings reproduce? Since the inklings seem to have different tentacle types, are they born with only one type depending on the gender or is it from genetics? Can they change their hair? How do they cut their hair? And the most important question of all... WHY IS MARINA FRIENDS WITH PEARL?
What if a jelly wanted to participate in a turf war or ranked mode? Do they have to use some special equipment for that? Are they not allowed? Do they have they're own sport like this?
Well, we know that the Jellyfish can swim in water, so they would have an unfair advantage over Inklings/Octolings on stages with water hazards. However, we don't know if they can even produce ink, even though they can change color.
#1: No bones doesn’t equal no pain. #2: Hopefully. Someone has to keep the city running. #3: Hopefully. There has to be someone in charge. #4: They only Invade every 80 years, so possibly. #5: They dissolve into ink, so maybe they don’t need to clean themselves. #6: It’s probably full of ink, which would make it feel like a water balloon. My 6 cents.
That's definitely what it's meant to look like, but that makes it even more bizzare, as that is comparable to a torso where most of an octopuses organs are...
For the shower thingy, What if they had like a switch that has different colored ink on it And whatever color your hair is you click the ink color and just BATHE in it. And crusty sean bathes in frying grease-
1. Inklings and Octolings do feel pain, theres even an option to say "Ouch" when you get splatted. 2. Inklings do go to school, in Octo Expansion Pearl talks about her days in school and in the Squid vs Octopus Splatfest she says "I remember reading about Octopuses in history class", I personally like to assume that the Splatoon Time is around 2pm when most schools finish. 3. There might be some sort of government in the Splatoon World, cause they have a military(New Squidbeak Splatoon) but its mainly kept as a secret so maybe not. 4. Most of the weapons the Salmonids have were because of a trade deal with the Octorians, so they may or may not have an underwater utopia. 5. Inklings and Octolings don't dissolve in water, they just don't know how to swim, notice when you fall in water you're avatar tries desperately to swim but can't, so they probably use water to bathe, but if they do dissolve in water then they use the Bloblobber XD 6. I like to assume the Octoling Afro works like the head of an Octopus, that or the Afro is filled with ink and would feel like a sponge
In the shrunken scroll its mentioned that the specials had to be completely redesigned on word of the powers to be. While this is probably the turf war company that owns the battle tower it shows that we only see one part of inkling society in the games. Now where's my splatoon sims game.
You can see them struggle in the water to swim, but in one of the new casts Pearl says to hydrate in between battles, then Marina says that it sounds like a good idea until you remember water is lethal to them.
Because she knows the origin of the word? [Warning: Strange rant ahead.] I find myself THINKING in other languages [like Latin] when I just think about stuff, sometimes when something is mentioned my brain goes all the way to the origin of that thing and I have to sit there and translate everything I'm about to say so the person I'm talking to knows what the hell I'm trying to say, I spoke french FLUENTLY once because of this, I don't even KNOW french! How does that even work!? Edit: Damn it Google^10, I'm going to keep this recording till I die Google, every time you fail I'll have it marked.
With how important music is to all the splatoon species (as far as we know), as well as the Octarian leader being a literal DJ, my headcanon is that the leaders of inkopolis are the most popular music group (which is why the few government officials we do see like like our captain are related to the Squid Sisters/ Off The Hook in some way).
All the OCTARIANS have DJ Octavio, the leader of the Evolved OctoSpecies, so if there were “Inktarians” then there would be a leader of the SquidSpecies. But are Ink/Octolings part of the Octarian/“Inktarian” species?
If you go into recon and repeatedly touch the rainmaker shield, you take damaged and become drenched with enemy ink, if you submerge into your own ink or team ink, you can hear the inkling or octoling feel relieved, stay still while submerged
Stephi Massengale me being a man wanting to be a surgeon, I'd like to assist in a dissection, that is, is it possible? Will it just explode? Will the wound heal instantly? Or will it be possible if there are no respawn points near by
I asked myself how they take a bath or drink. My actual question is: we know Inklings have their human at the age of 14. But when we learn about Marina, we see she had already that form. So, are there two entire races or just species ?
Pearl is 21, and Marina is 18. [by human equivalent, chances are they're actually around 4-12 "Real" years, I dunno cephalopods aging process...] The average Inkling is about 14 when they achieve their form as seen in game, Pearl is definitely a dwarf, or part of a subspecies, like how Agent 8 and the "normal" Elite Octolings are different Subspecies. *DAMN IT GOOGLE^11*
Pearl and Marina are matured, so are the Squid Sisters, take that as you will... (This applies to all fictional characters) We don't know what time-frame their stated age is in, it could be rotations[days], cycles[months], seasons, orbits[years], or even stellar deaths, though since the Official Wiki says years, that could only mean two things, orbits or equivalence, orbits being the "human standard" and equivalence being the translation of case [inklings and octolings] development *into* the "human standard". *[Possible future politics, If this subject ever comes up: I fucking called it.]* Humans are one of the longest lived species on our planet, so limiting inter-species breeding [well maybe not breeding, but mutually enjoyed sexual activities] based on human development scale is ridiculous, the same applies to porn there of, fictional or otherwise.
For the 'do inklings go to school?' question, it's probably like Harry's Potter, but they quit school altogether at 11. They have 6 years of regular teaching, and then live life like adults! Also, things like Inkblot academy are optional paths. That's my theory, but if there are any flaws in it please say so. Thank you! 👨🎓👩🎓🦑🐙
They have a nervous system (because they have a brain) but their bones, (possibly) muscles, and fluid are ink and the nerves is what pick up pain, so they probably do. But that’s just what I think.
I have decided to answer all of these. 1. In the game, on certain maps, there are times when an inkling can their feet and legs wet. Inklings don't actually dissolve when they fall in the water they drown because the water is burning them. (look at question six) 2. Yes, they will feel pain. Just because they don't have bones does not mean they don't have a nervous system. We know they have a brain. On the note of "do inklings bleed" there is a massive misconception that inklings are made of ink or that their blood is replaced by ink. If you look in the Splatoon 2 sunken scroll, you can see that inklings have a designated ink sack, so the fluid that runs through their veins is blood, and no it is not blue. Yes, squids in water have naturally blue blood, but that is because they are not breathing oxygen. Inklings are, therefore their blood is red from the oxygen in their system. 3. Yes! In the Inkblot Art Academy dialogue, Pearl mentions that she has bad memories from this place, to which Marina comments about her grades, and in the Manga, there is a character who is referred to as the class representative. 4. The answer I have for this is that we know that there was an army back during the Great Turf War, and if there is an army, there is most likely a government/president who controls it so yes, but I really doubt it's a Jelly 5. They just live in the ocean. The Salmonids don't actually make those weapons. They traded eggs with the octarians who actually made it for them. I don't think they have any extra intelligence to build an underwater utopia. 6. Oh boy, this is a long one, but I will try to explain it to the best of my ability. The lore of how squids began to inhabit the earth is that there was a great nuclear war and accidentally someone blew up Antarctica and the whole world flooded. Now, think of how polluted and acidic this would make the waters when a bunch of infrastructures, power plants, gas and oil, and whatever entered the ocean. Squids are already really sensitive to acid levels so there were forced out of the ocean onto land because the water was literally burning them. What does this have to do with taking a shower, well the answer is most likely, Inkopolis has some sort of filter system in order to have clean water. Going back to the manga, there is a scene where the main character jumps in a Jelly only pool and Mahi Mahi resort. "Jello only pool?" you may ask. Well, remember when I said squids are really sensitive to acid. Jellyfish, no so much. So they would be fine in normal water. The fact that the main character went ahead and jumped in the pool means that there are probably pools that are safe for inklings to swim in. Meaning that they can also probably take showers and stuff. This would also explain why the Great Zapfish is so important and why the octarians kept taking it. It probably powers that filtration device. 7. There are many things I am sure about in the Splatoon world. How hair works is not one of them, but probably, if you bring inkling tentacles close enough to each other, they kind of mold together if you know what I mean. I am not 100% sure at all but that is most likely how it works. I know no one asked for this but, I did it anyway. Sorry if there are any typos.
And I realize you were talking about the squids, not humans, my bad unless you still thought that about humans but I still made an error before and I am not making it up for being right about humans because that was not the topic
Leehero45 the reason that veins are blue is because they carry deoxygenated blood, which is blue. The reason blood is red outside of your body is because when you cut yourself, the blue deoxygenated blood comes into contact with air and becomes red oxygenated blood.
By researching through the Manga or through the OctoExpansion you can find out that water actually isnt deadly for inklings. So I guess they would shower in water, as long as its no salt water...
Here's my thoughts on that first bit and the shower stuff. Have you WATCHED an Inkling in humanoid form fall into water? They splash around and make lots of distressed noises for a while before they splat. Compare to the squid form which just poofs instantly. I think their Humanoid forms are actually reasonably water resistant. So short exposure to water wouldn't bother them that much. They just take a quick splatting instead of the slow painful process of drowning by shifting to squid form.
For the school one, I’ve always looked at the turf war as we know it is a professional sport. The inklings we play as are special. They are teenagers, (unless they’re like Pearl and Marina who have other confirmed ages) I always thought they dropped out of school to be a professional turf war person. Inkopolis isn’t just a square for anyone, and the Galleria isn’t just a mall, it’s designed for the pros. I.e. Ammo Knights. Why would a regular mall have professional level weapons? (The clothes have no significance, they’re just there to satisfy the inklings’ obsession with fashion) So yeah.
I have my own theory that when an Inkling turns 14 and gets their full kid form, their parents send them of to basically a massive boarding school. In the Splatoon 1 loading screen we see what looks like an Inkling dorm room. So basically they go to school half the day and are free for the rest for Turf Wars and stuff since we even see them at night for Splat Fest's.
My theory for Inklings going to school is that it's a much simpler and shorter school curriculum, designed to teach practical life skills. Everything else is optional. This has the side effect of making the amount of time you spend in school surprisingly short--I'd say 1 or 2 years, probably just before they hit the age of 14.
I can confirm that inklings do in fact go to school. Pearl talks about it in one of the chat logs in the Octo Expansion about how they learned about the great Turf War between the Inklings and Octarians in school.
In Octo Expansion, Pearl specifically mentions learning about the Octarians in school, so yes, Inklings do go to school. Octarians like Marina went to school as well, but their’s were more of a military academy.
Kids these days can be anything they want, a squid, a kid, an octopus. What's next? Are people gonna be walking around town being salmon or _jellyfish?_ But really we need playable jellyfish. Like, now.
For the first question: They most likely do feel pain, because in the wild, they’d probably have to react to any attacks quickly. Plus, enemy ink is enough to kill them, so I think they’d be at least hurt by it. And as for the finger thing... the finger would most likely be cut of and dissolve, but because of the disruption in surface tension (they’re just made of a liquid, seeing as they respawn out of it) they might just pop then and there. For the second: There has to be some sort of society in Inkopolis. You can’t just open a city for sports at some locations. There’s have to be workers, organizers of matches, transportation, restaraunts, and any plants. And those have to be looked over by someone... maybe even a population in the work force, making the sports possible. There might even be Inklings who have never played a match of Turf War in their life, because they are focused on making it all happen. And all the education so the workers can complete their tasks has to happen somewhere, right? For the third: Yes! Where do you think all the Scrappers, Steel Eels, Steelheads, Motherships come from? There has to be some sort of centralized hub for Salmonid life, at least off the coast of Inkopolis. There’s probably a worldwide Salmonid population, meaning these Utopias would need to be all around! Plus, in the Grizzco training manuals, it says Goldies have heightened intelligence. If they had an underwater Utopia, then they would be able to build the gear for their Boss Salmonids. And they’d have to have barracks for the soldiers, storage for their weapons... they need some sort of haven or at least a base for themselves underwater. As for the fourth: Either they change themselves to a solid form so they can keep their bodies intact underwater, or they use ink... which would come from other Inklings, and unless those ones are clean as well... eugh. And for the Afro question: I... don’t have an answer for that. But I’d think it’d feel like a wet balloon (what?). Which is why I’m surprised the golden toothpick doesn’t pop it. There is my contribution. Have a good day.
Quinton Craig That’s because when they die, the Spawn Points allow them to respawn. So they do die, but they come back. That makes the sport not really dangerous at all in the long run.
Then it's not a real death now is it. Plus you have to take into account the ghost thing, it clearly carries their consciousness in some way, maybe that IS their real body.
Quinton Craig Well... is it their real body? Not only are they invincible in that form (you can’t shoot their ghosts), but in that form they are practically helpless too. All they can do is float around (and they can’t even do that well) and if they evolved from the sea, they certainly would’ve gained a stronger form, like their Inkling bodies. Plus, a squid/octopus evolving into a flying creature would take WAAAAAAAAY longer than 12,000 years, the time stated in the first game’s sunken scrolls since the formation of human fossils (probably the end of their civilization).
Evolution isn't improvement, it's changing to meet the minimum to survive or perish entirely. So being untouchable is the ultimate adaptation if it can't touch you it can't kill you, but that also means you can't eat or breed{supposedly} meaning you'd die out or develop to ability to generate a corporeal form so you CAN eat and breed, if you didn't start out with that and GAIN the ghost effect.
THEJONATAN you see a group of salmon that take material from the floor & swim away again so you go down for see what they doing you can use the submarine to get to places & fight inkling or octoling in under water base
Quote from Pearl during Off The Hook; Inkblot Art Academy Map: “This map brings back memories.” Marina: “If your grades were as high as your multiplayer rank, I can see why.” And “Well, the classes are inking turf (or something)” Proof that Inklings go to school
They can use Water, it's just outside of the map so you get teleported back into it. It's like when you fall of a high map, you also get teleported back. (probably it's a protectionmachanism to safe the *children from drowning*
Mega Scunt They probably reproduce like us or squids, I think that they don't die after the reproduction anymore unlike squids nowadays because Cap'n Cuttlefish is very old, has 2 grandaughters and is still alive, and Marie go to visit her parents. I just don't know if they lay eggs or get pregnant
Octolings, as said in the Splatoon 1 artbook, reproduce asexually ("has no reproductive ability on its own", as the artbook words it). Octolings and Octarians cut off a tentacle, and it grows into another octoling. This is likely why enemy octolings all look the same, because they're essentially carbon copies of each other. The more tentacles an octoling has, the more they can cut off and make into new octolings (thus, elite and humanoid octolings have more tentacles than octarians). It hasn't been confirmed as to how inklings reproduce, however.
my question: Why do some hairstyles (pig tail, afro, and some boy Inkling haircuts) not have suction cups? especially afro, Octolings have the suction cups on the colored part of their hair however the afro is pure color and no suction cups! Inklings have suction cups on the white part but the pigtail hair has no suction cups!
Have you ever wondered, what does the inklings drink. Edit: just remembered about crusty Sean's shakes. But have you ever wondered do inklings get haircuts/do their hair grow?
What would happen if an Inkling and Octoling were to mate? Would it work despite the fact that the Octarians can only reproduce by removing a tentacle? How many tentacles would the offspring have? Would it say "Woomy?" or "Veemo"?
Inklings/Octolings also have a pain sound when they are hit, not just splatted so most likely they feel pain. According to the artbook inklings DO go to school but often ditch it to play in turf wars due to pier pressure.
A lot of these questions can be solved by the fact that the inklings' bodies are basically just shields for the little soul. When they submerge in ink, the souls make bodies that serve as protection, so they're just temporary.
I think in the Manga there were some inklings relaxing in some water. So maybe participating in turf war weakens them to an all ink state, so being exposed to water would splat them. I mean why do they have rain boots as an clothing option?
Pearl states that she has a pool of water at her house, meaning that inklings and octolings can be in water. The reason they die is likely because of them not being able to swim and end up drowning.
Actually the inklings don't disolve in water, they just don't know how to swim What I meant originally is that if an inkling touches water with a finger, the finger won't disappear. Now I'm thinking is pretty ironic that a squid doesn't know... to swim.... O just give me a break....
Epic Manky they don’t dissolve. when they take too much damage they explode into ink in game. Because of that it looks like they are dissolving in water but they aren’t. They are drowning because they don’t know how to swim. Drowning harms them so much that they explode into ink. So yeah they don’t dissolve it just looks like they do.
We've only seen Kid's get partially/ completely submerged in water so that's a large surface area. If an inkling gets cut, i think it oozes whatever color they are currently before they immediately regenerate (likely same thing with water dissolving) Im pretty sure Salmonids are another evolved cephalopod, despite the name, just less so than even Octarians Inklings pass through a sive to get any dirt or clumps of leftover enemy ink that wasn't naturalized by the other ink. Squidlings prob have nervous systems I think their skin is highly absorbent, so enemy ink is sort of absorbed into the Kid's body and skin, which is why they go pop like a balloon with too much air. Octo afros are just that bit more.
Apparently Marina is 18, Pearl is 21, Callie and Marie are 17 in the first game and 19 in the second and all the other inklings are 12. But doesn't that mean agent 3 is at least 14 in Splatoon 2
99 Gaming All the other inklings are 14, because that's when they get their "human" form and can play turf wars, which means that agent 3 is 16 in splatoon 2.
Yes, I have wondered about these things and I actually have theories and headcanons of my own for most of these! What would happen if an Inkling put their finger in water? Probably nothing. Basically, I think Inklings don't dissolve in water, at all. Unless it's saltwater. Think about this: Squids and octopi are mollusks, right? Now, most mollusks are sea creatures, but there's a few freshwater or even land mollusks, like the common garden snail. And what is a common, famous way to kill a snail, specifically one that causes it to dissolve? Pouring salt (or saltwater) on it. So since Inklings are so closely related, could the same be true for them? Well their cities aren't specifically built to keep away the rain, they have washing machines, and swimming pools, and snorkels, and flippers and howevermany other watery things all around. As far as I'm aware, on every stage with instant death water (including Octo Valley, Octo Canyon, Deep Sea Metro and Alterna) the water either has been confirmed or implied to specifically be sea (aka salt) water. Inkling wounds and pain; They probably feel pain the same way real squids do. That is to say, there is evidence that they do, but not in the same way as humans, whatever that means. They do probably have blood (real squids do, at least) and they probably heal from injuries the same way squids do (way the hell faster than humans, but not instantly). School; Yes, obviously the Inklings go to school! The only reason we don't see it in game is because it's a game, and going to school and studying wouldn't exactly be riveting gameplay. Want evidence? According to a Sunken Scroll in Splatoon 2, Marie is the host of a radio show called "Problem Solved: Studying With Marie!", showing that she is educated enough to help other people with their schoolwork. Also it proves the existence of schoolwork and studying, which proves the existence of schools. Also, Marina's file in the Octo Expansion chat logs mentions her having gone to school in Slimeskin Garrison. Inkopolis government; There kinda has to be a government in Inkopolis... We know that the Splatfest results get literally passed into law, so that prove the existence of law, which requires a government. What kind of government is it though? We know the Octarians live in a military dictatorship under DJ Octavio, and that the Salmonid have a warrior society whose economy relies mostly on trade and raiding, kinda like the Vikings, but we know next to nothing about Inkopolis. The Splatfest themes ARE decided by an ancient fax machine, which is worshipped as a god, and since it gets to directly affect legislation, the government probably has some theocratic elements to it. It's probably a neoliberal capitalist "democracy" (as much as those things CAN be true at the same time at least) with some theocratic elements. We have zero clue about Splatsville, though. Maybe the same thing, maybe it's an anarchist society, maybe there's a coddamn God-Emperor of Splatsville that we haven't heard about yet. Showers; This is yet more evidence for my theory in the "What would happen if an Inkling put their finger in water?" section! Octo-Afro; I honestly have no clue. I know it was made to look like a real octopus head, but that doesn't explain how it looks in Splatoon. Salmonid habitat; It has been stated, that at least the Salmonid tribe we keep fighting in Splatoon lives near or in the ruins of a gigantic dam built by humans in the distant past. The dam is also apparently visible from one of the new Salmon Run maps added in Splatoon 3. Needless to say, it's no utopia...
Boi I have a question have you ever wondered why do you fully die in turf, ranked,or league but in salmon run they die and you can jump around but you dont fully die?
More fun facts :D

Man I should make a theory video off of this :D
EDIT: Hypertonic, not Hypotonic. Thank you Motlo for the correction!
Edit 2: Thank you for the pin, Trinity :D Glad you liked the theory!
Maiyu
Yo, this needs more light shined on it.
Lmaoooo a Peter Parker X) this is very good

I thought the exact same thing actaually
@@sterling8389 Same
But, here’s the thing, everyone in splatoon is the same age, and there are no adults or reproduction. Who teaches in the schools? Jellies?
I_SNIPEZ1t that’s not the case at all, cap’n cuttlefish is very old, pearl is an adult, marina is an adult, the squid sisters are adults. There are probably many more that just don’t appear in the story.
No I agree
Inklings actually do go to school; Pearl has mentioned experiences from her school days during the Off the Hook segments, so there is at least some form of school system for Inkling society.
And in Octo Expansion, when Cap'n reveals the truth behind Marina, Pearl mentions learning about the Octarians in school, but everyone thought that the octopus was extinct.
Yeah, we only see one time of day, so basically our inkling/octolings free time
Also, a school uniform exists via amiibo, so...
Inklings and Octolings do in fact go to school, as in a news report, Pearl and Marina were talking about inkblot academy, and Pearl was talking about her school day, and how bad and boring they were. Marina replied in saying “If your grades were same as your multiplayer rank, I wouldn’t be surprised.”
can we just mention that ultimate roast from Marina?

She also mentioned a boy from her academy took her to a certain map when they were younger. Marina called it a date!

The octoling Afro is the equivalent of an actual octopus’s head. The head is filled with water or in this case ink, giving it that puffed up look. When the octo-Afro is wearing headgear the shape changes because the headgear has redistributed the ink within the octo-Afro.

Sorry, I just had too.

5. Inklings and Octolings don't dissolve in water, they just don't know how to swim, notice when you fall in water you're avatar tries desperately to swim but can't, so they probably use water to bathe, but if they do dissolve in water then they use the Bloblobber XD

You can see them struggle in the water to swim, but in one of the new casts Pearl says to hydrate in between battles, then Marina says that it sounds like a good idea until you remember water is lethal to them.

That confuses me though. Why would Marina immediately think of water when Pearl mentions hydrate?
Because she knows the origin of the word? [Warning: Strange rant ahead.]

*We Octolings and Inklings feel nothing*
I asked myself how they take a bath or drink.
My actual question is: we know Inklings have their human at the age of 14. But when we learn about Marina, we see she had already that form. So, are there two entire races or just species ?
Marina is an octoling, so its possible that Octolings have faster development than Inklings into Humanoid form. Who knows though?
Pearl is 21, and Marina is 18. [by human equivalent, chances are they're actually around 4-12 "Real" years,
I dunno cephalopods aging process...] The average Inkling is about 14 when they achieve their form as seen in game, Pearl is definitely a dwarf, or part of a subspecies, like how Agent 8 and the "normal" Elite Octolings are different Subspecies.
*[Possible future politics, If this subject ever comes up: I fucking called it.]*
Humans are one of the longest lived species on our planet, so limiting inter-species breeding [well maybe not breeding, but mutually enjoyed sexual activities] based on human development scale is ridiculous, the same applies to porn there of, fictional or otherwise.

Well, I guess we have to find out in Splatoon 3!
To be continued...
I have decided to answer all of these.
1. In the game, on certain maps, there are times when an inkling can their feet and legs wet. Inklings don't actually dissolve when they fall in the water they drown because the water is burning them. (look at question six)
4. The answer I have for this is that we know that there was an army back during the Great Turf War, and if there is an army, there is most likely a government/president who controls it so yes, but I really doubt it's a Jelly
When They Bleed There blood opponents ink color
*Gets cut by aknife and bleeds grey ink*
Kraken Master no, that's just the color of your veins as light passes through your skin, it's still red under your skin
And I realize you were talking about the squids, not humans, my bad unless you still thought that about humans but I still made an error before and I am not making it up for being right about humans because that was not the topic
*bleeds white ink*
Yes i said it
Leehero45 the reason that veins are blue is because they carry deoxygenated blood, which is blue.
Jasom each Splatoon the players are 14
No Name For You I thought that was the case but I didn’t know for sure.
How do Inklings Cut their Hair/ Tentacles Or, do they even cut it?
Are they born like that? and why would they put it in Knots?
Why not
I have my own theory that when an Inkling turns 14 and gets their full kid form, their parents send them of to basically a massive boarding school. In the Splatoon 1 loading screen we see what looks like an Inkling dorm room. So basically they go to school half the day and are free for the rest for Turf Wars and stuff since we even see them at night for Splat Fest's.
the octo afro is based on a takoyaki which is fried octopus balls. explains why that hair is so tasty
The language is called inklish.

In Octo Expansion, Pearl specifically mentions learning about the Octarians in school, so yes, Inklings do go to school. Octarians like Marina went to school as well, but their’s were more of a military academy.

xD
ahem
ink/octolings explode in their ink when the get splatted
so does that mean they're shooting their-
THE GAME IS A BLOOD BATH!!
It doesn't kill them, If they died from it why would it be such a popular sport? [with repeat contenders at that]
Quinton Craig That’s because when they die, the Spawn Points allow them to respawn.
You gave me an idea.
(The salmon story) DLC. You you go down with a submarine to an underwater world full of salmon
THEJONATAN you see a group of salmon that take material from the floor & swim away again so you go down for see what they doing you can use the submarine to get to places & fight inkling or octoling in under water base
In underwater base
and then you get playable salmonids-
Octothing no but if you clear the game you can get salmon run bonuses
Come to papa, little eggs...
NOW BRING ME MORE!!!
Quote from Pearl during Off The Hook; Inkblot Art Academy Map: “This map brings back memories.”
Marina: “If your grades were as high as your multiplayer rank, I can see why.” And “Well, the classes are inking turf (or something)”
Proof that Inklings go to school
squids dont feel localized pain meaning if you got hurt youd feel that pain throughout your whole body
Well if a Octoling/Inkling got a cut Like the octopus it would Regenerate a limb when it loses one sooo
thats my theory
Please look at one special romanian youtuber: Zappy TV
The afro is like the head of an octopus instead of the tentacle.
Pearl said that she "learned about that war that happened forever ago" when she was in school in octo expansion
They can use Water, it's just outside of the map so you get teleported back into it. It's like when you fall of a high map, you also get teleported back. (probably it's a protectionmachanism to safe the *children from drowning*

How is the Inkling and Octoling reproduction?
Males has... emmmmmmmmmmmm.
a tentacle as a reproductive organ?
Splatoon is weird
Octolings are the progenitor, Octarians are the cuttings, this is a note for those that may read it.

my question: Why do some hairstyles (pig tail, afro, and some boy Inkling haircuts) not have suction cups? especially afro, Octolings have the suction cups on the colored part of their hair however the afro is pure color and no suction cups! Inklings have suction cups on the white part but the pigtail hair has no suction cups!
Have you ever wondered, what does the inklings drink.
Edit: just remembered about crusty Sean's shakes.
But have you ever wondered do inklings get haircuts/do their hair grow?
in the art book, it said that Pearl is 21 years old. so do they have any sort of alcoholic beverage? if so what is the drinking age?
What would happen if an Inkling and Octoling were to mate? Would it work despite the fact that the Octarians can only reproduce by removing a tentacle? How many tentacles would the offspring have? Would it say "Woomy?" or "Veemo"?
Janajah Jones good question.
Inklings/Octolings also have a pain sound when they are hit, not just splatted so most likely they feel pain.
According to the artbook inklings DO go to school but often ditch it to play in turf wars due to pier pressure.

DashyMarcGames Lol YES
I love the thumbnail good job who ever drew it
A lot of these questions can be solved by the fact that the inklings' bodies are basically just shields for the little soul. When they submerge in ink, the souls make bodies that serve as protection, so they're just temporary.
Do more of these
I think in the Manga there were some inklings relaxing in some water. So maybe participating in turf war weakens them to an all ink state, so being exposed to water would splat them. I mean why do they have rain boots as an clothing option?
Maya Mitchell salt water is bad fresh not
ohhh, ok. thanks
The manga isn’t canon.
Pearl states that she has a pool of water at her house, meaning that inklings and octolings can be in water. The reason they die is likely because of them not being able to swim and end up drowning.
Inklings disintegrating is to hide the fact that there head flips them under the water creating a painfull death

Salmon Expansion confirmed
Actually the inklings don't disolve in water, they just don't know how to swim
What I meant originally is that if an inkling touches water with a finger, the finger won't disappear. Now I'm thinking is pretty ironic that a squid doesn't know... to swim....
O just give me a break....
Mauricio2417 tru
Thanks, captain obvious.
They literally just dissolve when you fall into water, what are you talking about
Epic Manky they don’t dissolve. when they take too much damage they explode into ink in game. Because of that it looks like they are dissolving in water but they aren’t. They are drowning because they don’t know how to swim. Drowning harms them so much that they explode into ink. So yeah they don’t dissolve it just looks like they do.
This probably made no sense lol
We've only seen Kid's get partially/ completely submerged in water so that's a large surface area.
If an inkling gets cut, i think it oozes whatever color they are currently before they immediately regenerate (likely same thing with water dissolving)
Im pretty sure Salmonids are another evolved cephalopod, despite the name, just less so than even Octarians
Inklings pass through a sive to get any dirt or clumps of leftover enemy ink that wasn't naturalized by the other ink.
Squidlings prob have nervous systems
I think their skin is highly absorbent, so enemy ink is sort of absorbed into the Kid's body and skin, which is why they go pop like a balloon with too much air.
SMnicky at least 14, cus thats when they get full control of their squid powers, but that doesn’t mean they cant be older
And Agent 4 is 18.
99 Gaming and agent 8 is 16
Maybe the turfwars and are ARE THE SCHOOL and it's prepearing them for an ACTUAL LIFE AND DEATH BATTLE THE ENTIRE GAME IS AN SCHOOL

*Brain explodes*
Deep
*HIGH PITCHED SCREAMING* WHY DO YOU THINK ALL THE SQUIDS ARE KIDS D;
"Do they feel pain"
Com. Tartar: THE EXPERT
Fact: Inklings and Octolings are fine if they put their finger into water, because Inklings can't swim.
Boi I have a question have you ever wondered why do you fully die in turf, ranked,or league but in salmon run they die and you can jump around but you dont fully die?
I think they have not to take a shower because they (kinda) take a shower every time they dive in their own ink :D
