Jesus Christ, it's one of my favourite Depeche Mode songs (sadly underrated). Getting to hear it with Alan's voice feels like all my dreams coming true. Depeche Mode, way of living. Alan Wilder, pure perfection.
I don't think he ever said he didn't think he had a good singing voice. My guess is you're taking him out of context. He was certainly very pivotal in the backing vocals on DM tracks in studio and live.
He actually sings in the final version but it's a duet with Dave and Dave's vocals being higher. I find this song very interesting because it is the only song Martin doesn't sing.
Hi. No I don't think that Alan is singing here. I think its Martin. But I'm not sure. Alan said that he wouldn't be the leadsinger because he means that he hasn't the right voice for that. But I don't think so. (You can read that in a biography of DM) ;) Love, Samy
It is Alan. Look in the live-performances. It's Alan and Dave singing. In this demo it's Alan only. Martin's Voice is different. You can hear that on the demos to "Enjoy The Silence" and "Shake The Disease".
The first time I heard "The Things You Said" from Music for the Masses album years back, I thought it was all Dave's voice, until I saw a video of their live performance of the song with Allan singing some of the lines with Dave. Yes, same pitch as Dave, but smoother.
Wilder used to create the arrangement to Depeche Mode songs. I guess he had already thought many arrangement parts to his song when he recorded this demo... DM sound is not the same without him.
EXCELLENTE DEMO ! Talentueux Alan WILDER ! "Some Great Reward" me fasçine encore comme au premier jour !!! Merci DM !!!
it had more character in a way. not that their later things dont, i love violater and in a way its objectuvely "better" written music, lyrics, etc but at the same time their early outputs feel comfy i dont know how else to put it really, and lot o of it esoteric and intriguing
Sounds to me like it's Mean Marty. This is great! It's always great to hear a band's demos. If you know anything about music, that is playing it, you can see how a song evolves. If anyone's interested, check out Duran Duran's early version of "Girls on Film." It's quite a bit different from what they put down on wax a few year later.
Kelly Lopez of course.. its not really, alan composed the music and lyrics , martin sung them...im too lazy to find the link but search ''here to have fun alan wilder'' a good taste of his, what i think, first works attempted to get his works noticed amongst his newly found friends, ''chart rundown'' is a good one too ... due to the unpopularity of depeche mode at the time, many demos are lost and depend on the good willing of the old fans out there
I think it's better Alan left the band. Never gave space to others, now Andy will be able to bring out his full potential. I in particular think he is a great unrecognized dancer.
Hum, puzzling... I don't think this is Dave. It is true, however, that Dave's voice sounded very different at the beginning, maybe lower or less powerful. It doesn't sound much like Alan's voice either. Compare this with Alan's vocals in some choruses (I'm thinking of The things you said, for instance). If anything, this is Martin --Not Dave. PS: This should be discussed regarding the recorded version of Two minute warning!!!
Alan is my fav Depeche Mode member
theoldiemusician 1998 i always thought he sounded like lead singer of cetu javu
Get in line 🙏🏼😝🥰

This is kinda eerie, like the entirety of recoil’s discography and I fucking love it
It's interesting to hear Alan once. He has a beautiful voice, I'd like to hear more from him.
There is only one Alan Wilder. Shame he didn't continue writing songs. I miss him. Alan come back!!
Alan is one of the most underrated vocalists ever. I can't believe he didn't think he had a good singing voice. God, I miss him.

This has got to be one of my favorite demos, it's very eerie, almost ghost-like.
What a surprise Alan singing here, why he didn't sing on final version? He has a amazing voice

Back vocal Things You Said singing Martin
The best backing vocals are Alan singing things you said and question of lust live at the Rose bowl. Ugh. Daddy had such a sexy voice.
Happy 39th Anniversary of this song and the release of the album Some Great Reward!
Noo!!If you hear it carefully it's for sure Alan's voice! He has written the lyrics so it's his demo.
This is absolutely priceless!!
I like this, it features more heavy the Middle Eastern vibe that the eventual final version would have...
Alan, the Great Songwriter !!!! Fools and if you want , my favourite Songs !!!!!!!!! 😎🎹👍
Wow!!!! I’ve been looking to find anything he sang!!!!!!!
ALAN WILDER…. !!!
Alan we miss you!!!
Love the DEMO Alan.
Fascinating to hear this, many parts of the arrangement in the demo were carried through to the final recording

I love Alan Wilder!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Depeche Mode without Alan Wilder is just Peh Mode.
ALAN!!! Make us music PLEASE!!!!!
That´s Alan.
It's sounds like the 70's
I like this version a lot. Sounds like they over-thought it in the studio. Should've kept it simple and straight-forward.
WoW! I love this Demo version! :) Thanks for sharing.
my dog like it TOOO!!!
Haha...Alan is that you? XD
Yes, it's Alan.
Alan, The original Depeche Mode Sounds.

Excellent Alan!!!

LOVE THIS this is depeche at its musically best - at least I like them best this way. Strange how the final version has lost the "muezzin" quality

Sounds sort of darker
Love this one :)
Cool to hear that demo version

Respect for Alan Wilder, the wizard, the genius BUT now I see why he didn't sing.
is this alan wilder singing???
Yes. He wrote it too
Yep, it's daddy singing.
Kinda sounds like "Fools" both awesome tracks
Is it Alan's voice?
Yep.
Synthesized Alan's voice?
I really think it is Martin, it sounds like his lower pitch on all the other demos.
its alan and martin
Intro sounds like Blancmange
Excellen
Ok, has anyone ever found out if this is an "official" Alan Wilder home demo?
Kelly Lopez of course.. its not really, alan composed the music and lyrics , martin sung them...im too lazy to find the link but search ''here to have fun alan wilder'' a good taste of his, what i think, first works attempted to get his works noticed amongst his newly found friends, ''chart rundown'' is a good one too ... due to the unpopularity of depeche mode at the time, many demos are lost and depend on the good willing of the old fans out there
BloodyandEnchained Actually he said on his website that it is indeed him singing
I think it's better Alan left the band. Never gave space to others, now Andy will be able to bring out his full potential. I in particular think he is a great unrecognized dancer.
Yes, if by dancing you mean looking like you're being electrocuted by your keyboard!!
Alan?
yes :3

The Recoil website says Alan sang this demo alone
this is never ever Alan singing !

This is fake. It's just a cover of the song. I've heard the actual demo and there is no doubt its Alan singing and an actual demo.
no?
