Win or lose, I love my Illini and will always stay a loyal fan. This is not a time to coach but to thank the young men for a GREAT season! This is life, win some lose some.
Thanks to all for all you have done this season. I hope recruiting continues and we have another great team ahead. Thanks ayo and Kofi for returning and winning a big ten championship this season. Was hoping for more but was a big step forward.
They didn't just beat us, they HANDLED us. Great season with a terrible ending. After the first three missed layups and the first five turnovers one had a pretty good idea that we had lost at about 16:53 in the first half. It's not like one or two players had an off day offensively, they beat us in the paint, they beast us outside the arc, they beat us full court, they beat us offensively and they beat us on defense. We looked flat-footed and out-coached. They looked like they knew exactly what we'd try to do and they shut us down. Congrats to Loyola - I hope they make a deep run after spoiling our season.
@970 Jokic they relied on Ayo at times when they could have tried other options I def agree with you there. I thought the 3 games without him would help us going forward; Ayo having an off day? NBD cuz we got Trent, Belo, Grandison... but nah, went right back to living/dying with Ayo. Ultimately Underwood lost the Loyola game tho, refusing to adapt on either end of the court really screwed us.
970 Jokic , what the hell made you thank ILLINI was going win it all, we haven’t been to the tournament in 8 years and you was naive to thank that there 1st yr back in the tournament we was going to win it all, you crazy as hell , Gonzaga been in position to win it all for the last 20 years and this they best shot , you know what you people problem is , y’all want instant gradification , if you want to win a National Championship, this will take time and there will be disappointment but championships are cooked not microwaved , so if you going moan about going from bottom of the BIG 10 to BIG10 Tournament champs , then move the fuck on and find a new team to root for , we haven’t been in the In tournament in 8 yrs and you bitching cause we lost in the 2nd rd , you sound crazy
Yes, but Brad was outcoached in every facet. Let's not lose sight of the fact that Illini were completely unprepared for what they saw. Did the video machine break? This one is mostly on Brad.
It is what it is. Underwood needs to learn form his mistakes if Illinois is ever to advance in the tournament. His lack of in-game adjustments did not put his team into a winning position. Congrats to the Ramblers. They were the better team today - players kept their cool and played within their means all with masterful execution. Porter Moses is to be commended where Underwood needs to take a page of his book for game prep. F_ck Chicago media. They should keep to reporting professional sports; their fawning over LUC was akin to movie critics/entertainment journalists fawning of an in-season actress/movie. Even if the Illini were to win this game the Chicago media would still be skeptical of the Illini. With that said, I've adopted LUC as my tournament team since my Illini are out. Hopefully LUC and Sister Jean will be smiling out of joy at the end of the Sweet 16 match.
I see it several times here, but yes my opinion is out-coached. He talks about being OK with Krutwig scoring points, he just didn’t want him to elevate his other players. Well if Krutwig has no pressure all game, and our players are getting screened all day with the same play leading to a Krutwig handoff and roll to the basket causing Kofi (or Georgi) to face a 2 on 1 in the paint because our defenders were screened off the ball before the handoff, something has to change. Obviously not very good switching, but get someone on Krutwig so he can’t pivot or roll to the basket. Put pressure on Krutwig instead of giving him 6 feet of space every play allowing him to make the right decision, elevate his teammates, pick up assists, and score a ton. No adjustments at all defensively against it that I could see. Well, about a 2-3 minute stretch Kofi was on Krutwig in that second half and Loyola couldn’t score and we closed in a bit. But then we were back to giving him all the space he wanted. Or go to a zone at some point as an adjustment. Switch something up. Instead Krutwig could run that offense with no pressure at all nearly all game. Then on the offensive side he said he wasn’t expecting deep ball screen coverage. Ok, I understand you weren’t expecting it, but what adjustment was made? We made awful turnovers late in the game getting our pocket picked near half court on deep ball screen coverage. That is really unacceptable. They were doing it all game, and we were frustrated by it.....all game. Anyway, kudos to Loyola. They played perfect. They had a great game plan and executed it with precision. They surprised us with the game plan and we didn’t adjust to give ourselves a chance. Perhaps there was nothing we could do on this day, Loyola was that good. I will definitely be rooting for them the rest of the way. And lastly, Brad did a great job this season. The team improved tremendously. They were fun to watch. So I don’t want to be too much of a downer, this has been so much better than the last 8 or so years. We had high expectations and ran into a terrible matchup for us, and our opponent played perfect. I would have liked to have seen some more adjustments, but even so Loyola still may have mixed something in and won anyway. They were just plain great. Thanks for the good times this season, and I look forward to this program being a regular in the NCAA tournament like they should be.
Cofe was wide open on the role. Never threw it to him. Loyola had a small player slide over to cove cofe after roll. Coach never adjusted. Cofe should have had 10 easy dunks. Then Loyola would adjust and we would get open 3’s. This one on coach
Definitely was out coach. Had a game plan of getting the ball inside and that is it. Loyola's defense was brilliant and we made no adjustments at all. Everyone knows when it comes to tournament time teams that go far uses their guards more than anything else.
I've been an illini fan for over 50 years. A turned ankle away in 89 a turn over away in 2005. The fact remains in my lifetime WE HAVE WON NOTHING OF NOTE. so discouraging. With Ayo and Cofi gone next year unfortunately I see nothing in the future.
Sister Jean out prays the heathens! People are calling Loyola-Chicago the flagship program in the state. DePaul has better facilities than the Illini. Northwestern is where University of Illinois grads go to upgrade their degrees so people will actually hire them. Brad Underwood coaches like he is Rick Stansbury’s step son and come to think of it Kofi COCKburn could be Charles Bassey’s biiiaaatch.
I don't want to take anything away from Loyola. I also don't want to talk about taking a timeout to kill momentum. I also don't want to talk about making coaching adjustments to win games. I also don't want to talk about continued turnovers and holding players accountable, out of fear of transfers.
Brad Underwood is an awesome coach. And He's right, when he says this Illini program is so much better than it was 4 years ago. He's been able to successfully resuscitate a dying program and make it functional and dominate like it was back in the 04-05 era that Bill Self help make. Underwood will continue to create great basketball teams and I don't doubt for a minute we will see more Big Ten tournament titles and NCAA entries with him. It really sucks losing to an in state team like Loyola when your the flagship school the state but whatever we got next year ILLINI!
Would have been nice to have pressed the inbound in the second half when you saw you were just trading baskets and down by 10 all the time Coach. They just couldn’t score or defend well today. It’s sad. Lifelong Illini fan and who knows when we will have a team this good again. Hopefully it’s not 16 years again.
Pathetic display. Same play over and over again yet no adjustments. Trent and ayo were crap today. Dont get here with this type of seed very often and laid an egg.
Why? If your guards can’t handle a trap, why would you continue to run the high screen into a trap? Why wouldn’t you isolate? If they continue to shoot layups, why wouldn’t you get in a zone press? Why wouldn’t you make any offensive or defensive adjustments if what you were doing wasn’t working? That was a disgusting display of coaching. Absolutely unbelievable.
Not trying to trill here. I'm a 50 year, diehard illini fan. But we all have to recognize that Brad Underwood was inexcusable ill prepared and made no adjustments. If he simply would have told Kofi to kick the ball out when he received double and triple teams, this may have been different. Yet, it was clear that he thought Kofi would dominate and when he couldn't, Brad didn't adjust and just kept forcing the ball into the post. The Illini didn't spread out the defense and couldn't move the ball. And did anyone notice how many times Illini had 4 guys standing out on the perimeter. I have been a Brad fan, but this one was deeply concerning.
Wish you woulda got after the refs for all the moving screens they were throwing at you on those dribble hand offs would have drastically reduced the efficiency of their offense.
Why didn’t they double the big guy for Loyola he was killing kofi 1on1! ILL-INI fun season to watch should be entertaining team next year no matter what we bleed orange and blue the haters are gonna hate no matter what but it’s fine no worries Underwood will usually have a good team! It’s crazy Loyola was an 8 seed I know all Illini fans didn’t want to see them as the 8 seed! This team was athletic and skilled but not as good as the 2005 teams in my opinion but who cares about my opinion lol
I agree 2005 team was better, not sure you could say they had no/less guts. They were out coached today, the guys were left without any chance chasing around the curl and hand off actions.
@@FatButcherRips yeah I could have worded that better but they definitely got out coached and played Loyola was a terrible match up for Illinois and there patience and ball control was to much to overcome
I’m still so excited for what the future holds, echo all your other sentiments. Would’ve had trouble doubling krutwig because he is such a good passer and ball handler. Kofi is neither so double or even triple teaming him leads to a lot of failed attempts at the rim
Win or lose, I love my Illini and will always stay a loyal fan. This is not a time to coach but to thank the young men for a GREAT season! This is life, win some lose some.
Out coached brad!!!!!!!
Yes he was. Sad ending to a great season. Oklahoma State may beat them 10 if they don't fall asleep in their game.

What’s up with the weird background music
this one going to hurt all spring. after they lost to maryland at home i had this gut feeling this team wouldnt go far! Tired of being disapointed.
Chill out y’all , we’re all sad this is building block number 1
Well what’s next year when our building block foundation is gone?
Wait 16 years for one to come back?
Sterling Archer , so you ent believe in Cubelo and Miller and Coleman Hawkins
EJarbinks , so you thought Ayo and Kofi was going stay for 6 yrs

Loyola are your next ncaa champs
How many times you ever see the center slap the ball out of a guard's hand at the top of the key? WTF I think that happened three times with Ayo today
