Hughie is a great representation of an "everyman" and the way the type of character is supposed to be written. Even though his character was made to be an average Joe that anybody could relate to, he still has enough skill, charm and development to make the situation hes in believable, and his achievements and relationships are rightfully gained.

His mind is actually trying to numb it for him,He right now has his mind on so many thing(His first and subsequent needed kills of supers)That causes his mind to not boil in itself,Because if he actually had a moment absent of high anxiety torment then he would probably breakdown.
Can you imagine if someone accidentally RAN THROUGH your girlfriend (or boyfriend) and you had to clean their guts and blood off you, meanwhile their detached arm/hand is still in your grip? There would be SERIOUS PTSD going on, repressed feelings, your mind probably would be in a state of denial even. I think the actor does a great job of portraying it subtly.
The way I view this scene is that she rightfully calls him out for taking advantage of her and he side steps her arguments by bringing up his past trauma. A common way of diverting bad attention is to bring up a deeper issue.
He still openly and deeply apologises for it. He uses it as a way to quickly and efficiently explain to Starlight why he treated her the way he has treated her, that he realises it was wrong, and that he intends to do better by her and by Robin's memory. Yeah, it's not the least manipulative way to say sorry, but if explaining that your actions are a result of intense emotional trauma is truthful (and accompanied by a realisation and apology), then it is valid explanation.
That look on her face at the end. May not be what was intended, but it’s almost like she is thinking “that better be a roll of lifesavers in your pocket”.
I mean Hughie was an average Joe only because of his way of life until those moments rather than his actual character. He became quite skillful in the things he does now in the show lol

You can lie by not telling the whole truth. He basically avoids the most important facts of him being there. Like he’s there to blackmail the super not for any other reason he’s saying.
In Pact, practitioners (read: wizards) gain their powers at the cost of forsaking their ability to lie. So they inevitably turn to what Hughie is doing here: saying things that are technically true, if not the full picture. That is not to say I don't believe him here, it's just that Starlight is also right: he's taking advantage of her; but they need all the moral support they can get, and there's literally no one else in the whole show that can provide it. It's a crapsack world, after all.
I love Starlight and Hughie so much but I wish that it wouldn't have been Hughie's girlfriend A-Train killed. I mean number one, the FRIDGING alone was kinda annoying, even if they were following the comics 'cos it was still fridging in the source material. Number two, even though Hughie started this because he wants to avenge Robin to me it feels like he moved on a little quickly with Starlight no matter how slow they took it. Again, I love their romance and their friendship but I think that it would have been a lot more impactful if instead of it being a dead girlfriend Hughie wants to avenge it could have been a best friend who was like his brother, which also could be part of the reason he trusted Butcher so fast. That is my headcanon haha. Nevertheless still love this crazy and emotional show, each season gets better and better
Idk why people are so obsessed with this trope. Is that because it happens a lot in comics? Whether it happened to a lover or a family member is still the same thing. At the end of the day, it was necessary to kickoff his character's journey
@@rainydeestar people mad about fridging often miss the point that writers use a dead female love interest because it will generate a lot more sympathy and outrage from the audience.
