Aluminum is awesome to go at on any machine. My wife just told me "that is sexy the way he is doing that" so I told her to come out to the garage more often with me! Maybe a good thing there is an ocean between us lol.
Just a little something I've found useful, chamfer/round the edge at the bottom of the skirt on the piston so it will plane across the oil on the cylinder wall instead of scraping it off.
The soft jaws are jaws what are make from steel SAE-1040 also SAE-5140 and they are NOT to chilled, so they have soft surface and they can easy to work for workpiece. They use in cases when need save workpoece surface (example- aluminium pieces); pieces with extraordinary design; another extraordinary cases- piston rebuild, cast iron case working etc. I like the soft jaws, because they can easy to custom for workpiece and they can made by self (by Yourself You make the working part of soft jaw).

cool where did you get them fancy extended chuck jaws?
I make that jaws for one motorcycle deal two years ago...
This piston is HUGE , what is the diameter?
what are the soft jaws? and in which cases are they used?
Will you be weighing the pistons for balance? :o]
O,,,
Yeah! :-D
130mm I think.. so was written on packing.
No, I not weighing the pistons - #1 the customer not to order this action; #2 that engine run no faster than 1200RPM; #3 that engine have 1 cylinder.
