I'm from Bakersfield and it was so cool to see my town in an art assignment video. It's fun to hear we have some common feelings about the beautiful and bizarre things Bakersfield has to offer even though you had a short visit while I grew up there.
This honestly makes me appreciate having these museums in such close proximity to me. I only live like 30 minutes away from LA and I've been to almost all of the museums in this video at least once, and now I really wanna go again. Also, you should check out the Getty next time you come!

Can I just say how much I enjoy that both you and your husband make RUclips videos? That being said, this channel is my first true exposure to the fine arts and I really appreciate how accessible it makes it to those of us who may have been just a little bit intimidated by anything beyond a Picasso or The Starry Night. I will definitely be keeping an eye on new exhibits coming to the Houston Museum of Fine Arts!

Chris Burden is my favorite performance artist, Doomed is my favorite piece by him, you should watch his documentary. Yes!! It seems every part of the greater L.A. area and the surrounding deserts have many gallery neighborhoods. I love it!
Earthquake terror-filled me would have an anxiety attack walking under that rock! Fun Fact: I grew up in Los Angeles and never went to La Brea tar pits! Also, those tacos looked amazing.
you can do pretty much all of this (except Bakersfield) without a car if you stay in downtown los Angeles :) I even bicycled to Hauser & Wirth as there's a bike share next door
I went as a field trip with a painting class so I was incorrectly expecting there to be only paintings there. I was pleasantly surprised to find a tribal exhibit that had sculptures, pottery, and tapestries.
I grew up in SoCal and I think the Norton Simon is my favorite museum in the area. Great collections of a range of time periods I was shocked by, the sculpture garden is lovely, and it's the perfect size that makes it a manageable tour to see everything if you want to.
I'm sorry you missed the Museum of Jurassic Technology. It's one of the weirdest/best hidden gems of Los Angeles. I'd love to hear how you describe it. (And it's just a block from an In-n-Out burger! Or, for a classier, more vlog-worthy bite, the Lobby of the Culver Hotel.)
the mets weird open storage room was the thing that made me an art history major in college (my advisors weird and uncomfortable insistence that I learn french was the thing that made me switch out)
Great reason for becoming an art history major. There is a foreign language requirement for many art history programs. I think learning another language is almost always beneficial, but I think that requirement is mostly a hanger-on of the way art history was taught in the past. If you studied African Art, for example, much of the scholarship was in French. I had to pass a proficiency exam in one of three languages (French, German, or one other I can't remember) for my masters, and I do use the French I know, but it's just as likely I'll come across an art history text in a language I don't know. More than you wanted to know! But hope you found another field of study you enjoy.
my issue was that I didnt want to get a phd in art history or even an ma, at the time I wanted to be an archivist or a librarian so art history was mostly a way for me to get a BA.

I love going to art galleries, especially to see installations by artists. A forced shift in perspective is a pretty unique experience in itself. But it got me thinking about the artist's journey to this point. These installations you've featured are pretty big projects - but where do these artists start out? Do they all start with something small and graduate to something larger, or is it not always that linear? And would it ever make as huge of an impact if you were seeing the artist's first and only work as opposed to their 50th or 500th?
If you guys are able I urgently recommend visiting the Everson Museum in Syracuse. They're having their biennial until August 28, "Kindred Beasts." It's amazing and not something you'd want to miss
Graffiti cut scenes, hey, better than nothing. :-D Even though the "Venice Art Walls" graffiti wall at Venice Beach is not exactly a free for all, you have to get permission, so it's kind of curated, almost like a gallery. Except less exclusionist. :-)

They are calling the residency Black Mountain School. I learned of some locations for art in LA I didn’t know about and I’ll need to visit next time I’m there with some time but I can’t imagine going to LA from for art and not taking in the Huntington. I’ve been three times and I’m sure I’ll go again some day. There would be no culture in Bakersfield without Buck and Merle. That iconic sign was save because of Buck (no relation). I love the Crystal Palace. I saw Buck there twice. Art in Bako is otherwise pretty dismal. I wish you had included the Getty. I’ve never been there and would like to know more about it.
I so want to! I will be in LA next week again for VidCon, unfortunately the only day I have open to visit museums this time around is Monday, and the Broad (and most other museums :P) is unfortunately closed on Mondays. The LACMA is open though, so I'm aiming my sights there. The Broad will have to wait until the next next time... ;)

I would recommend doing an art tour of Houston. There are some fantastic museums there. But I would try and time it around the art car parade. This wacky rolling display shows everything from low rider bikes to cars covered in mirrors. Cars come from all over the world. It's amazing. It is usually at the end of April. the peacock room and the rothkos. in my experience its not super common you get to see rothkos in 'the right context' (enclosed space, grouped, lower light) but the phillips has a nice room of rothkos. ((also if youre into "stuff" as in physical objects, the woodrow willson house museum is weirdly great. it doesnt really have 'art' but it has a lot of artifacts/objects with weird pasts. in general peoples houses are the best museums for me though so I'm biased.))
The National Museum of Women in the Arts and their exhibition "She Who Tells a Story" and the Turquoise Mountain exhibition at the Ripley International Center/Sackler Gallery. NGA is a must, but it will take an entire day, so if you can swing it, it's worth it.

At first I wanted to be an artist, but it took me a while to figure out that I mostly appreciated and liked talking about other people's work more than my own. I decided I wanted to be a curator while working at a commercial art gallery after college, then went back to school to study art history, then became a curator.

I know! It's a must-visit in LA. But it takes so long to park, get there, enjoy it to its fullest extend, etc. I felt like it would take up too much time during such a quick visit. But of course I definitely recommend it for those who aren't making a video like this while they're visiting.

Definitely MOA (the Museum of Anthropology at UBC). Their contemporary art galleries change frequently, and it's usually fantastic. VAG is also pretty cutting edge; I think you'd enjoy it. I'm less familiar with smaller art venues, sadly. There's a thought-provoking Ai Waiwai installation called F Grass in Coal Harbour.
Have you guys ever come to the DFW area? I grew up here so i KNOW know know we have the worst rep, the one we are infamous for but I get a little frustrated when no one ever sees the kinda of amazingly resilient artists that come from here. It can be super lonely as a Texan artist- I'm guessing that's why they often leave. But if we can lay claim to an artist like Rauschenberg, I only wonder what other hidden treasures Texas has birthed.

Experimenting on my own skin the ZERO trash lifestyle, l agree with you, a lamp near the couch needs no jam jars totem decorations but giving every domestic wasted material a new life is.. very exciting. Some days the jam companies will decide to use decorative jars in purpose for decorating homes. How about the paper wastes? Inmates in jail should work building up puzzle compositions, anyone can do a puzzle picture if you teach them where to place the bricks. Anyone could order a mega puzzle as big as a wall can you imagine it? Made of other puzzle segments in order to give any customer a self portrait..anyone could go crazy of a selfie as big as a wall. Inmates need to work and pay the jail expenses. Even more, they need to save incomes and have a pension insurance, if they ever walk out, be confident to become respectable citizens instead of turning back to the criminal career. There are so many jobless ones, fine arts could give them a chance for a career if we could carry on the .. fine arts beauty political strategy fans, what is good for our planet is good for ourselves as well. Who is willing to borrow me the money to finance these projects? Our cities need to look like an open air fine arts exhibition guys, if we want to have FAITH and follow the human nature... think about it Ok?

I was watching another documentary about the kinetic windows, those kind of huge glass panels moving in and out walls creating plenty of room for new gardens and space for outdoor entertainment, if we could make buildings work like trees yeah, try to imagine what a wonderful world this could be friends, only loving our planet. I do not understand why this obsession for burning petrol as fast we can, it's a golden asset guys, it should be saved like gold. If there's no need to use the refreshing air conditionating units think about it what a great change could be for everybody. Do you want to bet, if we bring down the heat to 23 Celsius degrees outdoor no tornado will disturb us anymore? That's the point friends. Tell me the toilettes wasted water is recycled for further gardening, now that it's possible to use the water drops dispenser and tiny pipes having every empty wall a... Monet kind of painting made of living vegetals, indoor or outdoor or both. If you do not open mind people then who? Fine arts is also about some kind of education towards beautiful things, you can start a brand new school about it guys, think about it
As an art lover and LA native, I am hugely disappointed with your selection - Getty and other museums and institutions aside, where is the vibrant downtown art scene, the Art District and the Underground? Venice? Fantastic Latino art? How about getting in touch with local artists to show you around? Technically speaking, your videos are fast-paced jambalayas of unnecessary footage while skimming more important parts, both visually and verbally. While I support the initiative, I urge you to think past HS project approach. P.S. Wurstküche is pronounced Vurst-KooSheh and not Vurst-Kookah.
I have no idea if you ever tried to decorate a tree with hanging colored spots like a Christmas tree but l think it's not casual. What if you build up the tree in purpose and hang on branches pots of veggies? Every home and every garden, every empty wall as oxygen factories, this Covid global apocalypse should wake up people, we are suffocating guys, if we love cars, we have the duty to neutralize pollution. Being artists sometimes means getting useful for a proper action, for giving all customers the sense of beauty in every moment of the day. If not an artificial tree to be decorated, wish you try a cubism composition three dimensional where to store the flowers pots. Veggies we love as food grow up blooming, try to imagine a cubism structure all filled of pumpkin flowers and call them smog eaters, next to every empty wall you could fill the whole city of a paradise garden. Sorry guys if there's any God out there watching this hell sight.. do not ask Him to get upset like hell and ...lose control. I think we can stop and prevent extreme weather phenomenon friends, just helping oxygen cool down the heat. Some industrial companies might find amusing having Versailles gardens in vertical walls composition the way usually use to restore outdoor paintings, creating new walkways and why not? New coffee shops all along empty walls just like true natural gardens to explore, think about it Ok?
It's a matter of FAITH friends, human being is sensitive to beauty, eager for new sensations all the time, we need the placebo dope to stimulate us feeling life worth living...when we have to live as perfect victims of those who have only wars, mass murders and devastations in their dick heads, hanging on fine arts is a decision of survivors fans. I grew up here so i KNOW know know we have the worst rep, the one we are infamous for but I get a little frustrated when no one ever sees the kinda of amazingly resilient artists that come from here. It can be super lonely as a Texan artist- I'm guessing that's why they often leave. But if we can lay claim to an artist like Rauschenberg, I only wonder what other hidden treasures Texas has birthed.

Experimenting on my own skin the ZERO trash lifestyle, l agree with you, a lamp near the couch needs no jam jars totem decorations but giving every domestic wasted material a new life is.. very exciting. Some days the jam companies will decide to use decorative jars in purpose for decorating homes. How about the paper wastes? Inmates in jail should work building up puzzle compositions, anyone can do a puzzle picture if you teach them where to place the bricks. Anyone could order a mega puzzle as big as a wall can you imagine it? Made of other puzzle segments in order to give any customer a self portrait..anyone could go crazy of a selfie as big as a wall. Inmates need to work and pay the jail expenses. Even more, they need to save incomes and have a pension insurance, if they ever walk out, be confident to become respectable citizens instead of turning back to the criminal career. There are so many jobless ones, fine arts could give them a chance for a career if we could carry on the .. fine arts beauty political strategy fans, what is good for our planet is good for ourselves as well. Who is willing to borrow me the money to finance these projects? Our cities need to look like an open air fine arts exhibition guys, if we want to have FAITH and follow the human nature... think about it Ok?

I was watching another documentary about the kinetic windows, those kind of huge glass panels moving in and out walls creating plenty of room for new gardens and space for outdoor entertainment, if we could make buildings work like trees yeah, try to imagine what a wonderful world this could be friends, only loving our planet. I do not understand why this obsession for burning petrol as fast we can, it's a golden asset guys, it should be saved like gold. If there's no need to use the refreshing air conditionating units think about it what a great change could be for everybody. Do you want to bet, if we bring down the heat to 23 Celsius degrees outdoor no tornado will disturb us anymore? That's the point friends. Tell me the toilettes wasted water is recycled for further gardening, now that it's possible to use the water drops dispenser and tiny pipes having every empty wall a... Monet kind of painting made of living vegetals, indoor or outdoor or both. If you do not open mind people then who? Fine arts is also about some kind of education towards beautiful things, you can start a brand new school about it guys, think about it
As an art lover and LA native, I am hugely disappointed with your selection - Getty and other museums and institutions aside, where is the vibrant downtown art scene, the Art District and the Underground? Venice? Fantastic Latino art? How about getting in touch with local artists to show you around? Technically speaking, your videos are fast-paced jambalayas of unnecessary footage while skimming more important parts, both visually and verbally. While I support the initiative, I urge you to think past HS project approach.

I have no idea if you ever tried to decorate a tree with hanging colored spots like a Christmas tree but l think it's not casual. What if you build up the tree in purpose and hang on branches pots of veggies? Every home and every garden, every empty wall as oxygen factories, this Covid global apocalypse should wake up people, we are suffocating guys, if we love cars, we have the duty to neutralize pollution. Being artists sometimes means getting useful for a proper action, for giving all customers the sense of beauty in every moment of the day. If not an artificial tree to be decorated, wish you try a cubism composition three dimensional where to store the flowers pots. Veggies we love as food grow up blooming, try to imagine a cubism structure all filled of pumpkin flowers and call them smog eaters, next to every empty wall you could fill the whole city of a paradise garden. Sorry guys if there's any God out there watching this hell sight.. do not ask Him to get upset like hell and ...lose control. I think we can stop and prevent extreme weather phenomenon friends, just helping oxygen cool down the heat. Some industrial companies might find amusing having Versailles gardens in vertical walls composition the way usually use to restore outdoor paintings, creating new walkways and why not? New coffee shops all along empty walls just like true natural gardens to explore, think about it Ok?
It's a matter of FAITH friends, human being is sensitive to beauty, eager for new sensations all the time, we need the placebo dope to stimulate us feeling life worth living...when we have to live as perfect victims of those who have only wars, mass murders and devastations in their dick heads, hanging on fine arts is a decision of survivors fans. Mother Earth for first is so filled of beautiful landscapes of fine arts achievements we could never ignore, it's our duty to manufacture fine arts friends and some artists... seems genius on being dissapointing, seems they do their best to ... give up loving artcrafts, some achievements are...not very happy at all , sorry guys Ok? It's nice this art travel, driving and discovering how many vertical gardens could decorate cities and streets if we would just be eager to love beauty. Too many empty walls that need smog eaters coats, let them look like fine arts compositions made of vegetals and flowers , why not? Artists can do better than this, no matter what clever explaination you can find any crap called fine arts. We need to save the planet and art crafts must get involved, if we have this symbiotic relationship with our planet, She might calm down going crazy with tornado refreshing disasters if we provide to prevent weather gone insane. If we cover roads of solar umbrellas in order to manufacture green electrical power and shadow refreshing driving lanes, having no further need to refresh cars and burn other fuels, think about it how much fine arts can do. Starting from saving the veggies seeds, let them kids have fun planting seeds and have further babies to take care about
