    Why would you do this from the inner fender when you can do it from under the hood? I can change a light bulb in less than 2 minutes

      changing a light bulb and converting to LED not the same amount of effort.

    I put LASFIT bulbs high and low beam with they're rubber cup shaped covers in 20 minutes for all four. I wouldn't even dream of taking off the inner fenders! I wonder how many people saw this and got scared away from an LED conversion. Videos like this kept me from doing it for a year. I do not work for or am sponsored by them either, just want to encourage my fellow man or woman. Decent video... buuuuutttt...
    You need to put more emphasis on the adapter collar. I see H7 LED lights all the time with that notched base (1:35), and the more modern ones actually allow you to rotate the entire assembly... which means turning the socket to 'seat' becomes, well, all but impossible since the only thing that can be gripped rotates freely.
    Are there other adapter methods? I bought some after market headlamp assemblies for my old 2015 B7 (R.I.P. last week) that came with some heavy duty spring wires that did the job (but only if the headlamp was NOT installed... no way to seat those springs in the narrow confines of the car itself). I just got a 2018 B7 with a few differences in the body... one being apparently the headlamp assemblies are even *MORE* of a pain in the ass to remove than the 2015.
    So, if the new LEDs can be rotated within the mounting collar, how would you suggest that be approached to rotate & lock them in place?
    And where can those adapter collars (0:54) be found?

    • @artworkslights
      @artworkslights  4 года назад

      I did not understand with all of the references, but let me address everything I understood. Bulb adapters are often shipped to me from led bulb conversion manufacturers or , sometimes, I just buy them on different places, where I can find them and see which ones work in my application. They are not always great. they are also universal and sometimes made different. I usually look for adapter for HID bulbs and then even modify it to work. I try to be gentle and careful when installing, so nothing would rotate(what is not suppose to). Sometime, and a lot of people hate it, I use silicon or glue or something else to hold things in place(trying not to make things permanent for the car). For this technic I have been called a lot of negative things and names, but personally I do not see anything wrong with it, if you don't mess up the car. If adapter does not spin where it suppose to, maybe LED kit is in the way somewhere, this is why I changed it and showed it in the video. Again, I was bashed many times for using my methods, but these are universal parts for different cars and it all works different. Sometimes people do not think about money factor, that could be directed differently when working on improving headlights on a car.

      @@artworkslights Oh, not dissing you at all, just pointing out some things that I've encountered in my limited experience.
      Notably bulb assemblies that rotate into position (many), usually with a manufactured installed tab to grip the mounting ring.
      But with LED replacements you're doing away with the original bracket, and it's convenient tab, requiring that you turn the fan housing of your new LED (usually). Newer LEDs, however, have taken to making their entire units rotate to help align the beam pattern... which, of course, means that you can't lock them in by using the LED fan housing. Problematic.
      And finding the collar, as you used, has proven problematic. Nothing for B7 Passat, only golf/GLI (popular with tuners/modders so more availability).

    • @artworkslights
      @artworkslights  4 года назад

      @@amzarnacht6710 They do rotate sometimes, even though LED kit that I used also has tabs, just like original bulb. As I said, you still have to be gentle and careful or use a little bit of silicon. In my situation I used LED kit with 4 chips, which makes it not to think too much about the angle of chips.

      @@artworkslights Still have info where they were ordered from? Part info?
      The vehicle I have is a 2018 Passat (USA version). I've seen videos where they just put the bulbs in without any sort of ring (since most have the round base ring with the top notch) and plug them in directly without any adaptor collar.
      But then, unlike my old '15, there are few videos on the '18 which is still B7 so far as I've found.

    • @artworkslights
      @artworkslights  3 года назад +2

      I am not sure about the difference in the actual housing, but according to bulb guide, it should have the same type of bulb. I cannot tell you about the rules of principals of installation for this car, but I should have another video in a week, where the same type of work would be simplified , so , maybe, you would hold off until then.

    • @artworkslights
      @artworkslights  2 года назад

      I had no free walls to show the line. Basically, the cutout was fine. It all depends on what kind of LED bulb kit do you put there. In given car, headlamp has a standard reflector, so You will never be able to make that perfect(unfortunately) . I have a second video on my channel with the same car, but a little different kit.

    Unfortunately I am unable to locate an H7 high beam Retainer Adapter/Holder/Socket.
    Any idea where I can find the adapter for the high beams? I tried searching what you suggested in a previous comment but that just led me to the low beam adapters. Thank you!

    You know the wire connectors have heat shrink on them no need for the tape.

    • @artworkslights
      @artworkslights  3 года назад

      that is not heat shrink, its rubber isolation, which slides sometimes and , in some cases, could touch something and make a short. I better be safe than do emergency fix/repair in the middle of my busy day or night.

  • @wishbone20t
    @wishbone20t 2 года назад +2

    If you put a hole in the rubber cover or you don't use the rubber cover because you have wires coming out of it you are going to ruin the headlight. You are allowing moisture to get inside the headlight and it will cloud it from the inside, once that happens the only way you can fix that problem is to replace it. You have to use the rubber covers without holes or you will have cloudy headlights in no time

    • @artworkslights
      @artworkslights  2 года назад +2

      If you make small holes in certain places no moister will get inside, Unless fender liners are missing and engine cover and there is a hood open while raining. Headlights have ventilation from the factory, but in different spots and different design.

    Totally unnecessary to do it this way. Anyone with a normal sized wrist can swap out the bulbs from the top! You can't see what you are doing, but you can feel it. Only takes about 5 min to swap out both low beams this way.
