This episode is where the show really starts to get into its groove. It may stumble a bit in the next episode (mostly due to one very visible reason), but you can tell they've found the right balance between mature storytelling and interesting concepts. I remember watching this story in particular and enjoying it in a gnarly sort of way. This really isn't a show you watch for a happy fun time.
It's also probably the predecessor to Jamaican Patties and Empanadas, it's suggested that sailors from the south west of England passed the idea on to Spanish sailors who spread it to central and south america using local ingredients.
Good! I’m enjoying the Torchwood-a lot-but you need to watch *through* DW season 3 **before** getting to the end of Torchwood season 1. Failure to do so results in 100 lashes to the wrist with a wet noodle… 😱
@@marcelwannieck I’d say that depends on your level of OCD. No offense. Torchwood is a spinoff of DW (duh). Not to press a metaphor but the Doctor drives the ship: one way or the other, one show is left with some degree of dangle answered by the other. As big a fan of TW as I am, I believe DW needs to always drive the train and-of no little significance-people are capable of sequencing episodes with overlapping storylines. Expecting viewers years later to recreate the precise, original timing of the two shows AS they were first aired with the threat/promise that only in this way can they be properly enjoyed is ridiculous and simply incorrect. A better and friendlier presentation to fans, I think, is to inform that there is a plot tie-in that matures in the final TW season 1 episode and DW 3:11. It’s a reveal and, bluntly, were it spoiled (which I’m obviously not gonna do) life would go on with minimal disruption. Yes, something neat would be lost. But seeing the relevant shows out of sequence would convey much of the twist anyway. IMHO pressuring people to see things in “just the right way” is a far worse joy-kill (not saying you are doing so). If you want to be hyper-precise, the absolute best way-for maximum continuity-would be to watch TW 1:13 followed by DW 3:11➞. But as a long time fan-one amongst many, and opinions obviously differ-I believe watching the DW season first affords the better experience (absent persnickety scheduling). Some interweaving as Ugo is doing is certainly acceptable. Relaxing and enjoying both shows is by far the most important thing.
I’m Welsh and Cardiff is my capital city. This series shows the beauty of my country. However it’s disconcerting when the characters turn a corner and end up in a different area. However I hope you keep enjoying the show, my actual next door neighbour is in an episode coming up. Love the channel and much respect.
This may have been one of the last roles that Gareth Thomas did before he passed away. He was also Blake from "Blake's 7", another great sci-fi classic well worth checking out.
This is torchwood doing what it can do. Having this one so early is useful for keeping people invested as the first series can be a bit hit and miss. Also a very important episode for getting the audience to empathise with Owen who will become one of my favourite characters in the whoniverse.
This was much better , the series is beginning to find its feet . A big learning curve for Gwen and we are beginning to get how this branch of Torchwood operates .
A pasty is a very British food and is indeed similar to a pie- a circle of pastry with toppings placed on one side. The pastry is then folded over, sealed up and baked. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pasty
Do you plan on watching The Sarah Jane Adventures? Not including the series' pilot episode (which aired between Doctor Who Season 3's "The Runaway Bride" and the following episode), season 1 of that series aired between seasons 3 and 4 of Doctor Who.
If you think back to the first Dr who series and Jack, he was not yet immortal, but became so at the end of it. That should help a little with the time line. Not a spoiler because i know you have watched it.
This may be considered a 'Classic Who" spoiler but is also common knowledge in the Whoniverse... “The 21st century is when everything changes” refers to the Dalek invasion of earth which happens around 2150 and is seen in multiple classic Doctor Who stories with the first and third Doctor. Jack knows about this event because he is basically form the future and want's to make sure that the Earth is ready
One issue I've always had with Jack telling Gwen that what she saw was only a possible future is he is ignoring basic quantum physics. Yes, anything is possible, until it is observed. The manner of that observation is irrelevant,as once Gwen saw what was going to happen, it collapsed all other potential wave forms making that future the only possible future, and this is something Jack should know, particularly after all his, erm, travels. Yes, pasties and Jamaican patties are very similar , I think the main difference being the filling. A pasty tends to be at least half filled with vegetables, though the exact ingredients aren't set in stone, and can have almost anything put in. Curried meat is a popular alternative.
So captain Jack i believe is from the 51st century and became one of thr first to sign up for the time agency and after the events of parting of the ways he used hes vortex manipulater and fell through time in past on earth and hes been there and lived all thst time righjt up to 21st century
I don't mind Torchwood, but personally would just prefer more Who, which it seems like you're not doing atm? Basically torchwood is fine but im really waiting for new who reactions
Whenever I drive through splott all I hear is Ianto saying “estate agents pronounce it Splow” lmaooo

A pasty is a traditional British food - a folded pastry filled with minced meat and vegetables. Cornish miners would have them for lunch.

He's from the 50th century. So he knows that "It all changes" around this time
Doctor WHO returns next week! 🌚🌑

@@joerosenman3480 It's actually exactly the other way round. The entirety of Torchwood season 1 comes BEFORE the finale of Doctor Who season 3.

All you need is a watch guide, I'm sure he has one.

Another Friday, another premiere...
Don't forget to engage 🙏🙌
I used to live in Splott- worth a visit, even if just to see the magic roundabout (it's a roundabout covered with odd road signs)

My head canon is that the machine psychically compels people to press the button.

LOVE Owen
And that’s how you write a twist to a story.
I love how this show is a great mix of alien and domestic drama.
Cardiff Central Station :-) and then so many recognisable places. When you come to Cardiff you will know your away around the city!

up until we hit the slums with the next episode, then it takes off again afterwards
Torchwood is *always* a win.
Torchwood starts after the end of Doctor Who Season 1, afterJack gets left on satellite 5.
Pasties are good. Bit like a pie, but a sort of folded shape
I live in Splott and my house is in this episode
That's awesome!! If you sell it remind estate agents how to pronounce it 😉
Splot! 😂
It's actually spelt Splott which just adds to the ridiculousness of the name
