Fun little tip for people who play lots of alts: If you want to transfer character personal macros from one alt to another (in a case such as a duplicate priest, rogue, warlock... etc) you can copy the macro text file from within the WTF folder. Use the following path: "WTF -> Account -> Account Name -> Character's Realm You are Copying From -> Character you are copying from" and copy the file "macros-cache". Then just paste the file in the folder of the desired character receiving the copied macros. It's much faster than manually re-writing or copying macros line-by-line.
@Sheriff_K The method of copying from another character's text file will still work in this case, though a bit more complicated. You would need to either remove the existing macro cache (including the old/backup version) so that it overwrites them, or manually open the text file and copy it line-by-line via highlighted copy and paste. The latter would probably be the best option, especially if we are getting more macro slots in TWW and if you don't want to remove legacy macros you have saved. Also, there is a separate macro cache text file that can be located in the account sub folder within the WTF folder. These are the account-wide macros vs the character specific ones (in case you wanted to copy them over from retail to PTR or Beta or any other version of the game).
try grounded, I just replied to someone else on my comment on this video about it and how it works, it makes the target show up on keydown and cast on keyup. Best of both worlds.
I mouse-click everything so sadly this isn't useful for me. I just want Flamestrike and other such abilities to cast CENTRED ON MY CURRENT TARGET without needing to target on a specific piece of the ground/floor. To know there was a way to do this that got "fixed"? Eff you, Blizzard!
Why can't they do the Smartcasting system where by holding down the button displays the reticle and it casts upon releasing the button or clicking? (and cancels on pressing another ability/right clicking) That'd be the best of both worlds!
an addon called Grounded does exactly this, I find @cursor macros awkward at times in the middle of a fight so this addon has been a huge gameplay upgrade for me.
What baffles me is that they're giving that @target talent node to TWO SPELLS across the whole class roster... what about Rain of Fire, Cataclysm, Healing Rain, Death And Decay, Blizzard, Flamestrike and all the rest? As someone who HATES the clunkiness of @cursor spells, especially the spammable ones, I love that they're doing it for Earthquake because it genuinely makes Elemental playable for me. Why isn't it an option for all similar abilities? To me, their way of going abt it is like giving baseline mouseover functionality for some classes and not others, it makes no sense.
WTB an option that lets you press & hold a reticle spell's key to show the reticle, and release to cast. My biggest grievance with reticle spells is the slow speed of it. If you want it to be fast, you lose accuracy (with @cursor), if you want accuracy you lose a TOOOOON of time, because you can't mash the key to minimize time lost between GCDs. A press-and-release function similar to the evoker option would be the best of both worlds.
I do not understand why Blizz can't add @target to macros for these. I'm betting it's a PvP thing. If so, make it not work in PvP. PvP should never be an excuse to make the rest of the game worse.
I've been using this macro for my ele sham for about a year or more. Being a quadriplegic, it's been a life saver! My right side is weaker than my left so I mostly tab target. With this macro I just mouse over an hit the macro rather than struggle with my weak side left clicking multiple times.😃
Back in the day in WotLK I loved using @player and modshift @cursor for death and decay. Was great to basically emulate consecration during the normal rotation, but also having the flexibility to put it anywhere when I'm pressing shift
I tried using these macros but it's not for me. Since I almost always hold the Rmousebutton while moving often I have no clue where my cursor is at. So I like to aim it myself just in case my cursor has ran off to the second monitor
Something I don't understand why they haven't done within the game UI that they have for other types of spells and in other Blizz properties like Heroes of the Storm. Why can't they just have a game option to toggle ground reticules to cast on release... like no need for ground macro, just have a cast on release option. That would be so swell.
Funny, another reason I think every wow player should try guild wars 2 for research purposes. In gw2 there’s a thing in settings that lets you just pick from several options how ground targeted spells work: from the options wow has via macros, but also a nice one where it shows the area telegraph at your mouse when you press the button and drops it at the spot when you release it. All with no required macro programming or addon installing knowledge
Log analysis shows that people who dont use @cursor macros are missing significant amount of globals over the course of a fight. Simply put, having an @cursor macro will increase your DPS for almost all specs that have such abilities. Especially true for elemental shaman and destruction warlocks. Same for mouseover macros for healers btw.
"grounded" is amazing. Keydown shows the targeting circle and key up casts. It makes it into both an @cursor and targetable if you just hold it for a split second.
Is that some other addon named "grounded"? Because that just sounds like something I might really want. I tried the @cursor and it's super annoying ending up casting stuff to places you didn't want by accident..or missing a pack by mistake because you can't see clearly where it's gonna actually land.
@@ShadowsOfThePast yeah it's on curse. The only thing that's a bit frustrating due to limitations of how it works is it can mess up other keybinds for that same character. To get around it I was able to modify the macro it uses to change spells based on spec. Here's an example of what I added for my lock. pressed: /cast [spec:1] Malefic rapture /cast [nochanneling:channel demonfire,spec:3] Rain of Fire /console ActionButtonUseKeyDown 0 released: /stopspelltarget /cast [@cursor,nochanneling:channel demonfire,spec:3] Rain of Fire /console ActionButtonUseKeyDown 1 Now I can use the same button for 2 specs, otherwise the keybind will always try to cast the spell, no matter what spec you are in. It'll make more sense when you have the addon, it shows these two macros for you to modify in it's options window.
even more so them needing to fix pets by having them properly agro on target you start attacking instead of waiting for a hit... or just somekind of alot better way to manage their Attacking maybe in a more dynamic way. not even talking of simple leaping action when following down a ledge instead of pathfinding some maze to find you along with every mob behind them.
i just wish they had "class macros". We have character and general, but to have all shammy macros on shammies, priest macros on priests, etc it would be such a nice QoL fix
The Irony is, they are making all these things user friendly for the conversion to console players, but the @target useable for all ground target abilities would literally make it the MOST useable for console. using ex. Heroic leap with Console port is a huge annoyance. @target would smooth that process to be as easy as charge and open up their Mobility all the same. but we asking too much from Tencen... I mean Blizzard
Yes it dumb it doesn’t have just a thick effect in the options to have auto target at mousecursor like sooo many games, but you don’t need an addon to type /cast @cursor spellname
Is there not an option to cast it like GW2? I click the keybind, aim the gtaoe, release the bind and it goes? I think right now you have to click keybind then mouse, yea? Might be a lot easier to just copy it from GW2.
I've been using these macros for all of my ground target abilities for years. What I really want the m to add is the ability to do @cursor for vehicle abilities. things like the grim batol intro of that stupid monkey plane quest near the beginning of jade forest.
Gw2 have had over 10 years now option for aoe to cast normally like on wow, or fast with range indicator so you press to get circle and cast on release, or instant on mouseover, and you have togle option to snap those aoe skills on target if want. someday blizzard, someday
If I remember right they got rid of the @ target macros due to PVP. Hunters could run away and @target a freezing or steel trap at the PvP opponent without having to look or move the mouse.
Finally i don't i may not need to create 4,5,6 additiona characters of the same class but of a different sub-spec just because i can't have enough personal macros, the increase is enough for most specs but the ones like priest etc etc, to be able to have 3 sub spec related macros ready, i don't think 30 are enough tbh, good old Clique again i guess...
best solution would be if you could press the button once for the indicator to show up and press the same button again to cast the spell. like many other games do it. and it wouldnt even be slower than a macro because gcd exists anyway
jesus no more addons please i remember in legion all i needed was bagnon/onebag i could hero raid without any combat addons i really wish theyd say fuck it and ban all addons i just dont care anymore i dont go around modding my other multiplayer games it adds to the soulessness issue wow has by not actually playing the game myself im just done bro i want wow to be an RPG again not an MMO without the RPG the games just shit in every aspect except cosmetics and even then its like half a point like if i had to legit rate wow out of 10 itd be a .5/10 because it fails it so much and is carried by cosmetics and art of the zones
lol they are laughing about a talent that made a macro while making a video about an addon that makes a macro ...... SMH my head and even face in the palm
You guys missed the big news. Macro programs like Gnome Sequenced-Enhanced will not work with 11.0. This means a lot of players can no longer play WOW. Not all of us are able to play wack a mole without severe pain. GSE solves this problem. Kind of sad.
Hi matt, im not a native english speaker and this comment means no hate but can you please talk a bit slower or vocalize a little bit better i know its the scottish accent but its hard for me to understand some things that you say, you bring up a lot of really good info and opinions but many times i just dont understand at all, this video was happening a lot more thats why im finally writing something.

THIS is life changing
You can also use the addon MySlot to save and transfer your setup between characters
Sadly this doesn't work if you forget and make Macros on that char, since macros are saved server-side, it won't overwrite if there exists already.
@Sheriff_K The method of copying from another character's text file will still work in this case, though a bit more complicated. Now how do you do it with transferring weak auras between pcs
i can't even begin to tell you how often i accidently put a ring of peace somewhere in the ceiling with my @cursor macro.
I feel it bro, I feel it
that more a problem with the game not recognizing anything in 3D very well.
try grounded, I just replied to someone else on my comment on this video about it and how it works, it makes the target show up on keydown and cast on keyup. Best of both worlds.
they should do what swtor does with ground targeted AOEs
if you double tap the ability button you just cast it centered on your current target
Such a huge QoL change when I figured this out as well.
Same in Guild Wars 2. Its giga handy
They already had a system for Modifying Spells, it was called Glyphs XD.
Why can't they do the Smartcasting system where by holding down the button displays the reticle and it casts upon releasing the button or clicking? (and cancels on pressing another ability/right clicking) That'd be the best of both worlds!

@@OctaneAPB Oh man, that sounds awesome, installing it but reading the instructions it looks like blizz managed to partially kill it...
Blizzard should put it in as an option like Riot does. Call it Quick Casting.
I feel this is being too nitpicky. We’ve been given an option to do either instead of being forced into 1 or the other

Glad I found this. I was looking for an auto ground target setting in the menu just last night.
There's an option for Alt-key to self-cast beneficial spells. Why not Alt-key for ground target @ currently targeted mob?
I do not understand why Blizz can't add @target to macros for these. I'm betting it's a PvP thing. If so, make it not work in PvP. PvP should never be an excuse to make the rest of the game worse.

even with help/harm I still don't have enough buttons for RShaman.

I feel like these would be good to implement as glyphs
Cause it takes them money to develop things, and they dont like spending that and will take every method available to them to not spend money
I just did this macro for all of my resto shaman totems
Something I don't understand why they haven't done within the game UI that they have for other types of spells and in other Blizz properties like Heroes of the Storm.
