You are right. Both are equal. Even when they are in the distance, our activities and priorities are dictated. Yes. I add that. For the past 7000 years or more when the body of marriage is formed, only women has been seen as a commodity and men "purchased" her by giving some valuables. This is how marriage happened throughout the history. And later, since women was not really contributing anything financially, certain cultures reversed the giving of money/valuables such that that a women is made married by giving valuables to the groom's family. Now things have started to change ! Societies have started to realize the equality of men and women and changed bound to happen. One issue here that came up late in the show is that the patriarchal family structure in which the woman always have a lesser place in the pecking order. The fight between mom-in-law n daughter-in-law starts because there is a tug of war over son/husband. Mom-in-laws have to believe that once your children have grown up and married, their new families comes first for them. Daughter-in-laws have to believe that once you get married familial ties (son and his parents, daughter and her parents) does not automatically dissolve. Family politics and patriarchal society norms led to this mess. In my family, my married sister and bro-in-law now take care of my mom who has dementia. No problems at all.

I am even surprised that MILs of this generation even want to live with their married sons or daughters in the same house. Our society is still male dominated but changes are definitely in. It is natural for everyone to bind themselves with people who give unconditional love than with people who comes with lots of rules and expectations. Newly married couples go with girls side parents instead of boy's side because unconditional love wins over the traditional rules. Whether at his home or at his in-law's home and at his mother's home, the boy is always treated like a king. But a girl has to work like a servant maid in her home or her mother-in-law's home. She is a queen only when she is in her mother's home. Finally, married boys and girls are treated like kings & queens in the bride's home. So, they tend to side with bride's parents. But this again won't lost long. Because, if somebody is a king/queen, somebody else have to be their servant maid. Today girls parents are these 'servant maids'@every home. There will come a time when all the three set - Newly married couple, grooms parents and brides parents will say 'U be free, I also will be free'. Respect to all the mothers. I understand the bond between mother and son/ children. I have a little son too. My only concern is when girls leave their mother's house and live with their inlaws, why is it so hard for the boy's mother to accept if his son moves away ? It is very rare to see a Son-in-law who lives with his inlaws but majority of the girls live with thier inlaws only. So wouldnt it be the same feeling for the girls mother /parents too ? I am even surprised that MILs of this generation even want to live with their married sons or daughters in the same house. Respect to all the mothers. I understand the bond between mother and son/ children. I have a little son too.
My only concern is when girls leave their mother's house and live with their inlaws, why is it so hard for the boy's mother to accept if his son moves away ? It is very rare to see a Son-in-law who lives with his inlaws but majority of the girls live with thier inlaws only. So wouldnt it be the same feeling for the girls mother /parents too ? If it is hard for the mothers to accept that his son will now have another woman to share his life, then they shouldnt get him married.
