Yep, ya nailed it. When I was young and foolish a elder said to me.... 'The journey can be more fulfilling than achieving a goal'. It took me years to understand and appreciate that sentence. You and your family understand this as well as many others. Thanks for the vid, always appreciate them.
So true Jules! I'm right along with you, it took me way too long as well. Another favorite quote of mine, "cutting firewood heats you twice, once when you cut it and again when you burn it", paraphrasing Thoreau from Walden. Stay safe, Ed
I love operating the equipment, especially as technology continues to improve. I also like the idea of improving the land and leaving things better than how I found them! Take care, Jason.
Hi Ed! I agree with everything you said. The willingness to live off the land and use the renewable resources have fueled other hobbies. I love running chainsaws and building them. I also love time on thr tractor. There is a lot I can say on this subject, but for everyone it is different. RUclips has become an outlet for me to share my work and make it that much more enjoyable. Thanks for sharing, I enjoyed it. WST
Well said Mike! I love the tractor work as well...I see in your videos how much you love working in the wood yard and how you get your family involved...Keep it up, us rural lifers need you!! Stay safe, Ed
We retired to the mountains of western NC about three years a go and heat almost exclusively with wood we have cut. I will add one more and it is the visible and measurable result of all of your work. While I accomplished many things during my career in IT, none of it measures up to a big stack of wood that we did by hand. By the way, my father was born and raised in Cheboygan, MI.
Congrats on your retirement Phil! NC is a beautiful state!! I agree completely, I also love seeing the wood pile grow, major satisfaction. It is a bit chilly today, 7 degrees this morning, probably cold in NC too. Do you ever get up to Michigan?
Thanks for the reply...I didn't know that. My family is originally from Sweden, so I have been reading quite a bit about your area of the world (The Netherlands, Belgium, Luxemburg). I hope to visit someday! Best, Ed
