I used to watch all of his videos when I was about 19 to 22, I stopped watched after that because it helped me and didn’t really feel that I needed them anymore, I saw him in st James park about 3 years ago and always regretted not telling him how much he helped me. Was gutted to hear about this.
You’re so right, best thing is to remember how he was a shining light and pointed guys (and girls too) on the right path. He helped so many people and if his earlier videos continue to be watched so many people can continue to get help. Most important thing was he was an amazing guy and he’ll stay always in our hearts. Thanks man 🙂
@@ThatDatingAnxietyGuy you’re welcome, he would want more people to be helped by his wise words. It’s just a dreadful shame he had to suffer so much at the end.
Thanks for this video Dan. I had a feeling you may have been his camera man he spoke so much about. He was fond of his time and work with you and spoke of it often when I would visit him from NYC. He was a good man with a good heart with an amazing desire to help others. A good friend who had time for everyone. He always took the time to check in and see how you were doing, putting others first. He always seemed to handle his issues, instabilities and demons with such courage and grace. I am deeply sorry it got so bad for him. God bless you in heaven old friend. May your soul have found the rest it longed for. You were an amazing person. Thank you for your friendship. I'll never forget our many many adventures in London as long as I live. May God bless your soul until we meet again. Your brother always, Maurice
Firstly Dan, I want to say I am truly sorry about what happened to Johnny. It's very sad and tragic how he took his life. I could relate to him because I know exactly what it's like to be $uicidal, depression etc. It's very sad because when you have depression etc, you feel so alone and feel like you dont see a future or even belong in this world anymore. Johnny did not take his life because he was selfish. He took his life because it he thought was the only way to end his pain. R.i.p to Johnny Berba.
I could relate to him too, I had moments in my life where I felt very lost. And Johnny absolutely helped me. And unfortunately you never really know what goes on with people and I hope his passing brings more awareness.
I am gutted hearing about Johnny's passing... A few years ago, he taught me a lot about Social Anxiety and how it prevents you from achieving many things in life. Moving forward, and as I am currently working towards new goals, I now feel even more committed achieving new things in life and not letting Social Anxiety holding me back. Rest in peace coach Johnny. I will not forget the positive impact your work had on me.
Mentel illness is not a joke. Its frustrating sometimes when you try to tell your friends, family etc they do not want to even listen to you for some people, and they tell you just to snap it as if its nothing. They do not know what its like to fight an endless battle internally. Again, R.i.p Johnny.
Its partly why I also made this video. Tom was also a good friend, known him for years and filmed his products. And my last call with him, he was telling me how he was glad to be out of the dating industry and enjoyed teaching students how to ski. Even joked with me how I'd be out of a business as he was offering to film his students with the progress as they practiced. But not everyone knew that.
@@ThatDatingAnxietyGuy Thing with Tom there wasn't even the slightest hint of being suicidal where Johnny you could argue there was some signs in his latest videos. There was a hit piece on Tom in an article which I'm guessing had some kind of impact.
@@marcus2336 I'd say this is speculation. I've known both these men for a little over a decade and both did suffer from depression and at some point or another took medication to help (whether publicly shared or not). It's also a rite of passage in this industry to have 'hit' pieces written about you, that coaches knew how to deal with them and ignore them. Although in Tom's case it may have been a factor leading to his death, from what I have been personally told, there were plenty of other factors too which were not publicly shared. It's also worth noting Tom had happily left the dating industry and became a ski instructor and loved it. And we spoke about it on the phone a year before he passed away.
@ThatDatingAnxietyGuy i followed Tom's content for a couple of years before deciding it was not for me anymore. i recently revisited some of his podcasts and they hold up pretty well for people who are into evolutionary psychology (i.e. all the black pillers, most of them i'd say are at risk of S/A too). Also met him at a free talk with Nick Krauser in London in 2014. Good dude
@ I’ve only known about your channel for a week. But to have worked filming for Tom and Berba, you were part of what is now neglected history. I know the wounds are still kinda fresh and there is a lot of jockeying for who knew Tom best, but it would be really interesting and instructive to hear more about Tom. He had the tools to fix his depression but why did he still commit suicide.
Would love to see those videos you and Eddie have. And another one i really would like to watch is the one Eddie mentioned on Tom's Memorial Meetup with the blow up doll.
I personally think there's even funnier videos! Did you ever see Tom doing approaches with an ironing board and iron? oh my that was hilarious. Johnny and I were filming and we were walking through one of the parks in central, and in the distance we see Tom approaching a woman, opening an ironing board in front of her and he starts to iron one of his shirts haha.
@@ThatDatingAnxietyGuy Man you really are a gem, you don't know how much i appreciate this stories, i love this community, it has shifted my perspective in everything, and changed the way i move through life. Sounds super fun, would really love to see this one, cheers man much appreciated :)
@@Tsourfetis oh I have loads of stories to share about so many coaches I've worked with over the years. 😂 hands down one of my favourite vids to make with Johnny was the Austin Powers. I lent him my halloween costume at the time and the laughs we had when making the opening scene (where he jumps in the air in time with the music to reveal his name like in the movie), the whole of covent garden was participating with us. In droves women came over for photos with him haha
Thanks for uploading this video Dan. Like you I was really crushed by Johnny's passing and felt i could of reached out to him towards the end. Just did'ont notice the signs. One thing I noticed after rewatching some of his last few videos is that he didont feel like he had anymore to show for all his hard work. So wondered if as a community we should try and get his story out more mainstream. what would be your thoughts on that?
Honestly, I don't know... Johnny has been in the mainstream media/ TV a couple times in the past, and they've always tried to represent him as part of the 'dark side' of the industry. I remember years ago the BBC did a documentary and lumbered him in with people like Steve Jabba at the time (who back then was full-on PUA). And I remember Johnny and I laughing at the fact our content was used (which they didn't ask permission for). And they literally used clips of Johnny giving women wonderful compliments and claiming it was bad. Point being, I just don't trust mainstream media to put out a pure message about such a kind soul.
I mean with the upmost respect for Johnny and only with intent to help others. He taught me a lot, but I think he made couple of mistakes when it comes to nutrition and coffee consumption. He looked very depleted in his last few months. I suspect he was under-eating which can worsen your mental state. On top of that he mentioned drinking couple of cups of coffee per day. When ever I talk to anybody with anxiety issues I always suggest to them to cut out caffeine. Its often overlooked how caffeine raises your cortisol levels making you stressed out in the process. Again, I have lot of respect for Johnny and was following him over the years and even this very year. Its all very sad. Rip Johnny.
I very much agree with everything there. I've met so much guys with anxiety and one of the biggest factors that doesn't help is overdoing it on caffeine.
Man so sad. Another Dating Coach from Germany here. I would've sent him some money and helped him a little with his business for free... I guess he is now the third person within the Community that I know commited suicide. Guess with Tom it would be four. But yes that's really sad. Seek help if you need it and talk to your friends!
He was the 4th for me as well.. If you need someone ever to talk to, I'm here for you friend. I've worked with enough dating coaches behind the scenes for so many years, I know and understand what they go through.. Although I'm sure you're fine but, if you ever need someone to talk to, im here.
So as I've mentioned in the video, out of respect to Johnny, I think its best not to speculate or feed into rumours how he died (as there are circulating around). And with how good of a man he is, I'd prefer plausible deniability too. I would like to remember how e lived rather than how he died, however tempting it might feel for some kind of closure. Now from what I'm aware there was no note, his action was a decision he made the same day as his last community post. This all happened on the Tuesday just gone.

Just my perspective but will you be seeking the opinion of Johnny's family before re-releasing any of the material he had taken down? I just think that would be a nice touch before re-releasing it.
Absolutely agree, That's why for the moment there's no rush for me or Eddie to release the content. Once I catch up with Eddie (street attraction) in December, we will decide what to do, and Eddie is friends with Johnny's family to check with them. I'm almost certain it will be all OK'd as, unlike for Toms situation, Johnny wanted his content to help people and would want his vids to stay up rather than hidden away.
