Restore is amazing. Better than any other additive. I had the same issue with my 4.6 mustang and it cleared the smoke right up and gave excellent compression. I also used it on my 4.0 L V6 Jeep which had a lifter tick, used it for about four oil changes and have not used it since and the tick has not ever returned.
I haven't had any issue since putting both the restore in, and the catch can on. I will be using the restore though in my other rides just based on the compression #'s alone. Thanks for watching!
Love it when fixes are relatively cheap even when we have to give buy another tool to do the job. Crazy the CC drain plug was so lame that it didn't really snug up to create a solid seal. Cheers!
Yeah I was initially surprised by the "quality" of the catch can, so I wasn't surprised when that happened. I got what I paid for. At least it was an easy fix. Thanks for watching!
You put it in with the new oil and can run it every oil change. I have been putting it in every other oil change though. They sell the bottles in 4/6/8 cylinder sizes so just buy what you are going to use it in.
Mine would only do it after it was warm and had idled for a while. I suspect it was puddling up oil in the intake and then when I would give it gas it was sucking it in and burning it.
No. The easiest way is to use the line that is for the PCV already. Just run the line from the PCV to the catch can, and the other line back to where the PCV line used to attach at the intake.
@@EvanWells07 I'm going to mention you on a post so you can see what I'm more or less looking at because I have the pcv that goes into the intake but I also have another on that comes from the back of the motor to the intake.
@@ScrewedUp915 yeah just don't worry about the second one. All you are trying to do is catch the oil vapor from the PCV and stop it from going into the intake.
I HOPE different testers test slightly different CUZ my old 390 FE highest piston is 110ish and lowest one is only 75.??? mine is a 20usd amazon special" YST Tool" i have sea foam is lowest four pistons soaking a few days hoping to restore those, maybe i will have to try RESTORE as well
The cheaper testers may not be as accurate, but it's not necessarily the # you need, it's the variation between cylinders. It will probably run with that much difference, but it's not ideal. Between the seafoam to break up any carbon in the rings, and restore, you may have a good shot. Run it for a while after both and check them again.
My 92 grand marquis burns it and leaks it I'm sure at the rearmain but I just put some in it when it needs it and change the filter when I need to. Car runs like a top but if you step on it yea it smokes not at idle really at all. Only when I really step on it.
My 09 P71 with 84k miles smokes as soon as i turn it on, i was told by my tuner that it's most likely worn piston rings.. :/ Anything i can do to try n fix it without opening her up?? An MMR 5.0 stroker 1,000rwhp 9.8 cr kit 20 over bore is on it's way already, building the engine anyway, it's cheaper in labor costs doing all at once rather than modding it in steps as i had intended, TrickFlow 44cc Race heads n stage 3 MHS TFS cams.. Check out a few videos i have of my car..
You could try the engine restore product. May help, may not. But it's cheap and easy. Other than that, It may just be worn rings, and not much you can do without a rebuild.
@@EvanWells07 For sure man, how do I get that product?? I guess I'll Google it.. But yeah, building my engine for a supercharger, thanks for your reply..
@@P71ScrewHead I got mine at Walmart, but any parts store, or probably Amazon will offer it as well. Thanks for checking out the video, and good luck with the build it sounds rad!
Thanks! The catch can is just an inexpensive one from eBay. Since I wasn't sure if it would have any effect, positive or negative, I didn't want to spend a lot on it. It is still in the car and haven't had any issue with it.
Think this could be added every oil change as preventative? I’ve got 117k on my Jeep 4.0, no issues at all, just curious the long run? It’s my DD, trying to get to 500k 😂
I'm sure it could. It will probably say on the the bottle the recommended intervals. My oil changes are so infrequent that I just use it every time. I have started using it on all of my vehicles as well.
Engine Restore NEEDS to be added with every oil change. If you don't, the smoking will return within about a few hundred miles of driving as the sacrificial, low-melting metals wear away.
Interesting video! Is the Restore supposed to be left in until the next oil change, or is it supposed to be left in for a few tanks of gas or a couple of months - then an oil change? I do realize it's totally different from Seafoam (which should be an oil change a little while after adding to oil) but I wonder if it's harder on engine bearings if left in for several months/year. Thanks.
Doing great! Still no smoke, still running good. I have drained the catch can probably 3-4 times since the video and every time it has had around 1/8 to 1/4" of oil in the bottom.
I ran two "V8 formula" sized cans in my 1996 5.9 cummins 12 valve. I had a little bit of blowby. Immediately after putting this in my truck it started to sound quieter. I have had a background tapping noise for the last 80k miles and it almost completely went away. After a couple of weeks I removed my oil cap to check on the blowby and started the engine.... NO MORE SMOKE. Zero smoke. I have 400k miles on this engine and I swear I wouldn't be able to tell the difference between it and a brand new rebuild in terms of blowby. Holy shitfucktits what is in that stuff?
You know that this metal particles additive, scratches and embed in all you bearings, right? Its good for cyllinders, but a total ruin for bearings... so, only use it as a last ditch.
I've never heard this either. There are also micro metal particles floating in your oil due to wear (which is why we run filters and change the oil). I highly doubt they would sell a product as an oil additive that will ruin your engine - maybe if they sold it as a "repair" type product like blue devil head gasket repair.
@@EvanWells07 Yeah, you highly doubt and the Earth still keeps spinning ... good luck with your oil filter taking anything below huge 20 micron rocks naive guy.
@cmte.brazinazzo2061 so what's your point? That my motor is gonna blow up because they sold me a bottle of metal shavings? I looked it up instead of trying to argue, it does contain copper, silver, and lead, which are what bearings are made out of (well not silver, but it says "trace amounts") in amounts around 2 microns. Bearings are typically constructed of copper, lead, or aluminum alloys in various designs.... I'm not claiming that it rebuilt my engine or anything like that, just that imbedding lead particles in a lead/copper bearing doesn't seem like a "ruin for bearings" as you put it.
@@EvanWells07 ok put some more, then, maybe it doesn't scratch your journals for a few months. But if making your old bearings to go chewing metal because its composition is a seemingly matter is your thing, go for it! Ah, the journals cant handle too much carbon, but metal is another animal, tough.
Since the catch can and engine restore it has stopped smoking all together. I have emptied the catch can twice since installing. It wasn't full either time, but had enough oil to cause some smoking.
I was AMAZED by the results on this one!
Been using it for decades it has always worked for me sometimes dump two 16oz cans in it for it to work faster.

Are you supposed to add this entire bottle to your engine oil before the oil change or after your oil change and run it for 3 to 5000 miles?

@EvanWells07 ok , so run it with a new oil and add another bottle on the next Oil Change is what your saying
@firearmconvention946 yeah that's what they recommend. I only do it every other oil change and it has worked well still.
mine only smokes when it reaches operating temp, also no blow by, zero blowby in fact, i suspect stuck oil rings

Valve guide seals may need replacement
I can happily say that several years later it does not smoke anymore. Only thing I have done it what's in the video.
Hello, Super video, I have a mower tractor, Briggs and Straton Bicylinder 16 CV engine, can be used to restore compression ?
I would think it should be fine. You would just need to figure out how much to add to your oil.

You installed a catch can and it was shaking? Was it a vented can that basically caused a vacuum leak? That's why I went with a sealed one.

I need garage space for that.
