I bought this thinking it would have scheduling feature seeing that the MiFi power strip had it. This is pretty much a standard power strip for most. Not sure how many of us will take advantage of a port reboot vs. Port scheduling. Please Ubiquity, can we get a scheduler for the power steip and plug?
An ethernet port on this would have been nice. Since you are controlling power to reset your network equipment, I assume it's already super close to some extra ports, without having to add anything else to your wifi traffic.
One of the key use cases is to plug in your cable modem into one of the ports so that if your internet goes down it can power cycle the modem automatically. You could certainly plug a UDM Pro of any other Unifi switch into it and have the ability to power cycle the device if necessary.
Can you still control it if you lose internet? Or say I turn off the plug to my UDM Pro, how would I go about turning it back on if I lose wifi access to it?
If you lose internet, you can not control it from outside your network. I believe that if you're still connected to wifi you can still access the Unifi software to control it. If you turn off the plug to your UDM pro you would not be able to control it because the control software would not be accessible. You could power cycle the outlet, which would mean the UDM Pro would come back online, and then be accessible again.
Austin, you mentioned you were installing one of these on your home theater system. What is the use case for that application and why this product instead of a regular surge protecting power outlet? (i.e. why do you want Unifi to control the outlets?) Thanks.
Hi there. The main reason is that I'm already in the Ubiquiti ecosystem, so it was the most natural fit. I have my router, home theater receiver, HTPC and a couple other things plugged in my media cabinet and I just like being able to have the ability to power cycle something if necessary. The smart surge protector I had before was a questionable Chinese brand and I didn't trust having it on my network (and also have not yet implemented strict IoT network segregation on my home network. I trust the Ubiquiti US-Strip will not introduce anything malicious into my network.
And actually the more I think about it, the 4 type c ports are the most appealing feature. In my media cabinet I have multiple devices that require a USB port, and this allowed me to consolidate USB plugs.
Top level unboxing. Excellent content. Would love to see more.
More to come!
Wish is had some scheduling features on the application so that I can schedule devices to be turned on and off at specific times.
Yeah, I agree. It's pretty bare bones. I wouldn't say it really fits in the IoT category as far as home electronics goes.

@@garabedyegavian9655 Wow so they just released a downgraded MiFi Power Strip... and never updated it?

Is there any point in using it with UniFi equipment, e.g. to plug UDM Pro and UniFi switch into it?

It's not a surge protector or power conditioner so might not be best for your home theater.
Correct.
But perhaps easy enough to put behind or beside a quality UPS or surge bar eg. APC

5:10 unless you have U-LTE, then you'll have access
great smart stuff ubiquiti has put out
this doesn't work with homekit though, right?
Correct, it does not work with Apple HomeKit or Google Assistant.
