I keep gallon jugs of water in my chest freezer then place them in the water bowls so my chickens have cool water all day. No heat losses in 12 years in hot humid SC. My birds are free range and when it's exceptionally hot I water the back yard.

Thank you! I couldn't get my girls to get into the water. I will try the bugs in the water! Sounds great!

On your big chicken house, heat rises, so it would be best to install a ridge vent across the full length of the chicken house's ridge. They're cheap and easy to install, allow no rain to get in, and are nearly invisible.
A ridge vent is a type of vent installed at the peak of a sloped roof which allows warm, humid air to escape a building's attic. Ridge vents are most common on shingled residential buildings.

So chickens love rhododendrons? Good, I wanted to get rid of mine, I'll move them to where we're building the run. Loving your channel so far, new sub as I'm starting to homestead now that I've moved to an area zone RA and can do so! However, working around having very heavily wooded land and not wanting to destroy that habitat. Great tips, thank you! ❤️💛💜

They have numbers on them. It helps me keep track of the chickens. Mainly a lot of the browns ones I can’t tell apart. So if one has a health issue I can track it more carefully

Do chickens like to play in water like parrots and ducks ?
If so, how about a really shallow chicken pool ?

Tara you're right I've got a big Rhododendron Bush when my chickens were free-range they loved hanging out under there in the hot weather. But guess what I had to start gathering eggs underneath the Rhododendron bush.

Your Rosco keeps his girls in line, he's the first to eat and get all he wants. But brings his hens in to get their share.
The little chicks are free rangers already, took to the watermelon like bugs.
