I'm a Mexican/American from the ghetto of Compton who earned a degree in music performance and music education...My main instrument is violin/viola and have played in countless symphony orchestras but I just have to comment here that this style of "fiddle" music in magnificent and brings the heart and soul of string playing...Outstanding Stuff!...
Thanks for posting this soundtrack, Ry Cooder has done a lot like T. Bone Burnett to honor and promote traditional music of The South. I've also heard this tune called "Waiting for The Federals" and "The Plainsman".
Seccesh Reb I talk positively about any ethnic group in the USA. I paid for the right of " free speech ''. It's mine ! I fought for it down South on The Republic That Once Was Vietnam. My wife is a Sonoran. I have lived in Sonora, Mexico. Furthermore, both sides of my family fought for the North and The South during the Civil War. Six generations removed, my Great Grandfather fought in The Cumberland Militia during The American Revolution. I like Mexican music as well as any other type of music. It's a shame that you have " tunnel vision ". The better part of my life as been spent on the Southern Border. What are you going to tell me about your statistics of how many aliens are illegal in the USA?

@ohnoes3084 you have a ratio. Every broken tie is a pain for the commoners. I mostly meant the cultural and regional side, not state-dividing. Of course, this struggle lies on U.S. citizens.
Coming from an old Creole family of Louisiana.. three hundred years standing. Cotton and Sugar growers and brokers ..whose family fought against those damned Yankees ..this song brings pride and a tear to my eye ..God Bless Dixie..❤️

@TheGreenmangrove He has given me so much enjoyment with his music over the years. So glad you are enjoying it also! Come by any time for a listen. Appreciate your comment. I think Ry Cooder and his players are to be thanked, also. My best to you, Moppet

This is an old-time fiddle tune known by many names, but it is definitely not Miss McLeod's Reel (even the chord structure is completely different.) The name Seneca Square Dance probably derives from Fiddlin' Sam Long's 1926 recording. Sam ran square dances in SW Missouri, where Senca MO is located. Sam may have known the tune but not the title (not unusual!), and so he named it for a place where he learned it, or perhaps where the crowed loved it. (Westphalia Waltz got named in that fashion.) Other names, perhaps more in keeping with the Civil War, include Waiting for the Federals, Running from the Federals, and Georgia Boys.
Thank you so much. Another listener agreed with you. I think he either knows Old Timey music well and/or plays: "Thanks but I dont think so. i know Miss Mcleods reel. Maybe a version I havent hear." I went back a long way & couldn't find the original quote of what it was. I just saw my comments & will change them. Thank you. I was ill when the first commenter wrote. I've been out of commission for 2 years, had surgery in July, & am much better. I'm catching up with comments. I'm glad you left yours because now I see a whole bunch here I need to answer. Thanks, I need all the help I can get. My best, Moppet

TomFan42 Bless your heart! I haven't had time to go to another video & see if it's there. I'm very sick that last few days. I wouldn't have done it if well. It was my fault entirely. Thank you, Barb
hey, Ms. Moppet, I have and love this Ry Cooder soundtrack to my favorite Jesse James movie, with the Keach bros. as the James boys, the Carradines as the Youngers, the Quaids as the Millers, and the Guests as the Fords. hope you're getting well. happy holidaze. skip Ω
Hey skip. It's one step forward, 3 back. I need two total knee replacements, but the other stuff is finally getting better. Thanks for asking. I've been a memory around here for so long. Maybe I can get 'going' again soon. I think it's a great movie also. It was just on here a week or two ago & I watched it twice. My best to you always, kind sir. Moppet
MyMoppet52 I hope you finally get healthy, Barb. 2 knee replacements at the same time is rough, but at least you only have one rehab stretch. best wishes, skip
One more time around. :) My kids and now my grandson always say "Why do you think I said that?" or some such phrase. I don't think I will improve. I was like this as a kid! Glad you are so nice. Now I can irritate young adult too...Not really badly, I hope. You've made me smile today & I love that! My best, Barbara
@yogini34 i'm always glad when I can get Ry Cooder on! much of his stuff is kicked out on my channel & he is a favorite of mine. Thanks for commenting. It makes me feel great to know others enjoy the music. I've added as much info for purchase as I could find. My best to you, Moppet
I do love to see comments. Thanks to your comment, I've seen a lot here. Been sick over a year & haven't kept up very good. See I have lots of people helping with the names of songs. Well, if you punch the wall please don't hurt your hand. BTW, I'm polite most the time, but not nice all the time. My best, Moppet
Hi. I'm not sure if you are a "city slicker" and dislike the song, or not...but I am glad you left a comment. I like to see comments, and sometimes try to figure them out. I appreciate you listening and leaving a message. I looked at your Channel for some help, but loved it when I saw that you like all type of things...that's how I am with music. Thanks for stopping by! My best, Moppet
@ChowHallCommando Great music and culture came from the South! We wouldn't be what we are with out our Southern heritage. I also say God Bless the South. I say, God Bless America also! I appreciate your listening, your comments, and your thoughts! Please come by for a listen anytime. My best, Moppet.
@vikkristian Thank you for the info on the waltz. I passed it along to the person who asked & also added it to the uploader notes. I credited you. I am sorry this reply took so long. Your comment got lost and I appreciate each comment very much!!! My best to you, Moppet
@marvflogs Hope you listen again & again. I do! Thanks for listening AND commenting. I like to see what the people are thinking. My very best to you, Moppet
@xNAJAFx I could not find the songs. I looked and looked. I could not find it in the music credits for the movie either...at least with the info I had on hand. I was hoping I'd know the songs. I love early, primitive music (non bluegrass. I did not use the term 'primitive' in a negative sense) and had hoped I would know the songs. I don't. I will keep looking & update you if I find them. Thanks so much for commenting. Greetings from Ohio, USA. Please stay safe. My best, Moppet
@MyMoppet52 I have worked with one of the Carradine Brothers, Christopher, who was an architect at Disney for many years. He had a picture of his family assembled from this film over his desk. Great film. Guess I will buy it to get that Texas song.
@xNAJAFx I know several people have answered you about the songs. I did find the second song (possibly) from another listener. He didn't address it to you, so I am just sending it all: several members identified the second tune from 3:40 on as 'Miss Macleods Reel' which is also known as 'Queen Anne's Reel'.Thanks especially to josiahscurlock and BradBrassman. I was also told there was a waltz called 'Moonlight on the Water thanks to vikkristian. I am believe them to be correct. Thanks
Hi. I will get back to you. It's about 7:30 am & I need to sleep. Some listeners who knew the names way back had a big discussion. I think it's on this song. I'll check for you & if it's not here, I will contact them. You'd be amazed at all the info out there among all of us "put together". Thanks for listening and commenting. My best, Moppet
Ry Cooder fan since the Captain Beefheart days. Looking for the sountrack when Cole Younger goes down to Texas Bar to settle with Bell Starr. Love Ry's Geronimo work.
@ABOSS302 Sorry I can't help with that. Ry is a genius! Some of his stuff that I DO have is prohibited on my Channel by utube. :( Thanks for commenting & hope you've found what you are looking for by now. My best, Moppet
@syphen90125 Very good!!! So glad you like all types of music. I do also, so that's why there is such a mess on my channel. You just have to wade through the stuff to find a treasure! Thanks for commenting & letting me know how you feel. It's interesting to me & I do enjoy it very much. Go for it!!! My best to you, Barbara p.s. Perhaps check out Tim O'Brien's Songs from the Mountains about Civil War time. Different tho. William Elliott Whitmore isn't able to go into a catagory. :)
@xNAJAFx Yep, that's definately Miss Macleods Reel from 03.40 onwards. There is a really good version of it if you put (below) into your RUclips search bar. Miss Macleods Reel by Jeff Anderson, fiddle
Thanks for your info. I added that after you or someone else mentioned it. I've been gone for about 2 yrs, so I'm not up to speed yet. Appreciate your help, Moppet
@wesleycole82 I still can't get Ry's Jack of Diamonds. You might want to check out Tim O'Briens 'Jack of Diamonds - The Drunkards Hiccups' from Songs from the Mountain. If I have sent you this already, please forgive me. Moppet
+Ramon Gomez Hi Ramon. This tune (Seneca Square Dance) is the music playing at the beginning of the wedding scene. I do not know what the music was that was playing after this tune, when the couple did the 'clog' style dance at the wedding. I don't recall that tune making the soundtrack. Sorry I couldn't help more.
+Ramon Gomez - I don't know the song. Sometimes people have known the songs and added them later. I will keep an eye open and tag you if I see. +Skippy QSB gave some help just now, thought it's not quite what you are looking for. (Old Time/Timey musicians have given names of music that isn't on the soundtrack but is IN the movie. I'm hoping one of them sees this comment by you.) My best, Moppet
+MyMoppet52 You're welcome Moppet. I know this movie better than the back of my hand. When I hear the music, I know exactly what scene it's from and where in the movie that scene is. lol
@wesleycole82 Hello. I've just sent you some info. I can't get it on for whatever reason "The Powers That Be" at utube have chosen. Perhaps because I don't have a huge viewing audience. Perhaps because I always spell utube wrong. Anyway, look for a note from me. My best, Barb
Hi. I have a request from someone on another song and remembered you. I am pasting his question/comment here. You seem to know a LOT about the movie. Thanks for looking at his question, Barb Question - does anyone know what the song is that's played by some passengers on the train? It's like mouth harp and something about "... now she's got ___ boys and ___ little girls and a baby on her shoulder ..."? Would love to get a recording of just that song. Thanks! klafrance123

Maybe I can get 'going' again soon. I think it's a great movie also. It was just on here a week or two ago & I watched it twice. My best to you always, kind sir. Moppet
MyMoppet52
I hope you finally get healthy, Barb. 2 knee replacements at the same time is rough, but at least you only have one rehab stretch. best wishes, skip
One more time around. :)
My kids and now my grandson always say "Why do you think I said that?" or some such phrase. I don't think I will improve. I was like this as a kid! Glad you are so nice. Now I can irritate young adult too...Not really badly, I hope. You've made me smile today & I love that! My best, Barbara
You know im a hard rock music lover but i love this music.
The last track that Danny Baker played on his GLR Saturday show. Still a bit of a heartbreak.
Wow ! I see the ingenious Dulcimer Player (pure Americana via Hungary) is Curt Bouterse. Go San Diego !!! And way to pick'm Mr Cooder.
You tell them, we did it for Dixie and nothing else!😊
Thanks for postin sir. My gr. Grndaddy helped Quanrtil burn Lawrence to the ground for his little sisters death at Kansas hands.

In the year of our Lord 1865! 🇺🇸⚓️🌵⭐️
Its called waiting for Yankees down here.
What state are you from also greetings from Alabama
@ChowHallCommando Great music and culture came from the South! We wouldn't be what we are with out our Southern heritage. I also say God Bless the South. I say, God Bless America also! I appreciate your listening, your comments, and your thoughts! Please come by for a listen anytime. My best, Moppet.
We still play that music here not old timey, and no one here has a degree
Excellent Music!
@eapiano87 You are so right! Thanks for stopping by to listen. Your comment is greatly appreciated. My best, Moppet (Barbara)
Thank you, sir.
J'adore
Thanks
@ChowHallCommando Don't forget the rest of America, friend. Godbless the South, North, East and West!
I know Seneca Square Dance as the Yankee title for Waiting for the Federals.
Thank you for your input, Moppet
I've also heard it named " The Plainsman".
gtuneit It is definately Waiting on the Federals
fuck you shit bird!
My best to you, Barbara
p.s. Perhaps check out Tim O'Brien's Songs from the Mountains about Civil War time. Different tho. William Elliott Whitmore isn't able to go into a catagory. :)
The celtic music tradition.....
thats is it
The long riders. Irish .
I think this may be Tom and Patrick Sauber playing.
Not Patrick but Tom almost certainly playing on this track and elsewhere on the album. Lovely version.
Molly Tuttle plays it so very ewell!
@xNAJAFx ....one of them is Miss Mcleod's reel which is on the Ride with the Devil soundtrack.
@xNAJAFx Yep, that's definately Miss Macleods Reel from 03.40 onwards.
There is a really good version of it if you put (below) into your RUclips search bar.
Miss Macleods Reel by Jeff Anderson, fiddle
If memory serves, the song is called : Waiting on the Federals (yankees)
Thanks for your info. I added that after you or someone else mentioned it. I've been gone for about 2 yrs, so I'm not up to speed yet. Appreciate your help, Moppet
We call them "Damn Yankees."
@MyMoppet52 I think the walz is called moonlight on the water
WELL I guess we're not going to get the name of that second dance tune are we!
@wesleycole82 I still can't get Ry's Jack of Diamonds. You might want to check out Tim O'Briens 'Jack of Diamonds - The Drunkards Hiccups' from Songs from the Mountain. If I have sent you this already, please forgive me. Moppet
I'm looking for the dance scene from the wedding section of the film...Where the young lady is "clog" dancing????
+Ramon Gomez Hi Ramon. This tune (Seneca Square Dance) is the music playing at the beginning of the wedding scene. I do not know what the music was that was playing after this tune, when the couple did the 'clog' style dance at the wedding. I don't recall that tune making the soundtrack. Sorry I couldn't help more.
+Skippy QSB thanks for your help. It is appreciated, Moppet
When I hear the music, I know exactly what scene it's from and where in the movie that scene is. lol
Skippy QSB
That's a heck of a lot better than me. So glad to meet you. :)
If that doesn't make you want to dance with a pretty girl, nothing will.
Thanks for looking at his question, Barb
Question - does anyone know what the song is that's played by some passengers on the train? It's like mouth harp and something about "... now she's got ___ boys and ___ little girls and a baby on her shoulder ..."? Would love to get a recording of just that song. Thanks!
klafrance123
Frist thing that came to mind
And thanks why do you think I made my Username EveryThingGirl
Hi, I'm back. You are my "expert". This is a question from another song from the movie. Passing it along, just in case you might know...I'm clueless. Thanks if you can help.
