I was very surprised when Becky called Subway "the worst food". Turns out that the quality of the ingredients that Subway uses vary heavily between the countries they operate in, as Subway is (still) quite popular and decent here in Germany, whereas in the USA they have been decreasing in poularity for years, which I have looked up.
It's because everything sucks over here in the US
It also depends on where you are in the US, like on the west coast literally no one eats subway but in the Midwest it’s still pretty popular, also I’ve noticed the older population eat subway a lot more

When ppl order ham and cheese on white bread
That's why you get all those veggies: no way in HELL am I cutting 10 different things for a sandwich.
It's cheaper to buy one sandwich than all of the ingredients for one. Also, it's convenient. If you're out and can't store your food during the day, or you want a nice warm sandwich without sad wilted veg, it's good.
Well they're literally called Sandwich Artists.

I super agree with Eugene saying local deli sandwiches are the best. The most delicious sandwiches I’ve had are from simple delis around my neighbourhood instead of franchises and so worth the price.
So true! Here in Germany, besides bakery sandwiches, this is kinda a new, or not a popular thing, in most smaller cities. If I were to open a restaurant/food establishment, this would be the niche in the market, I think :)
It's missing for me...... just classic deli-style subs, with some neat fusion options.... It could become a thing. And, bread here is pretty good, so we might take off some day, we'll see.
Same for breakfast food, I can get a great egg bacon and sausage sandwich locally and costs around the same as Subway or often cheaper as they have deals on and I get real coffee not the cheap nasty stuff Subway does.
100%, but if you have to go to a chain restaurant, Jersey Mike's blows Subway out of the water.
Agreed. Quality sandwiches when you wanna enjoy a sandwich are from small delis, quick, cheap sandwiches when you need to eat something are from Subway
so true. even my schools deli sandwich station is good. they give you a lot of each thing you ask them to put that i started to consider telling them to put less
It's sad that American or European people don't get same awesome vegetarian options as here in India. We've figured out how to make vegetarian food that is not bland. Their Aloo tikki sub here in India is delicious.
There's just so many good vegetarian options back home in India! USA vegetarian options got nothing on us.
My old boss at Subway was Indian and he would bring his own food sometimes and almost always offered some to me. It was always so good! Not to mention he’d make the best veggie sub or flatbread pizza for his lunch.
The paneer tikka one and tofu one hit different
We dont want vegetarian options we want more meat.

It's so interesting that Subway is considered one of the relatively "healthy" fast food options in Germany. But we have different bread because the US bread has stuff in it that's not allowed in our food regulations. The veg is also fresh and tastes well. Can't say much about the meat, but the meatless chicken tastes great.
Subway was considered healthy in the early 90’s but yeah only college kids or elderly people willingly eat it in seattle. Its just as unhealthy as Taco Bell or Starbucks but doesn’t taste as good lol
Could you have a crossover of Keith and Eugene's shows were they bother eat everything on the menu, then rank it??
especially considering how much people love their chemistry with one on ones! “the rank kings eat the menu at ______” would be so awesome omg
I love that idea.
"A college student and a nuclear physicist..." I've never heard that story before.
that's just the plot to back to the future and you're telling me that's how subway was invented!?
3 of my cousins worked at subway and the reason they put so little ingredients in the sandwich’s is because managers literally watch you prepare each order and you will get in trouble if you don’t put specific numbers of each ingredient. They were really strict about this and you could not put more than you were supposed to
I did always prefer going later at night when only one person was working and not really any other customers. The worker was always more relaxed and didn't have to rush as much. Subway managers really need to chill because they're really just making the experience stressful for no good reason.
It depends on the individual location. Some managers are overbearing and some aren't. There are some locations that are just awful and some that seem friendly. You really have to learn which locations are best.
Yes. Can confirm. You can’t just grab a hand full of pickles.. has to be 6 lol.
Can confirm lol it's supposed to be a "thin line spaced out so it barely covers" especially olives. 😂 we had a sign in the back "DONT OVERUSE OLIVES"
Not to defend the subway overloards here but if you go to McDonald's, do you get 10 pickles on a cheeseburger? Nope....just one. A formula guideline is helpful for consistency. Just ask for more.

But itll be expensive because at least at the store I worked at, I didn't have to abide by the rules of amounts for my own sandwich.
Insider Subway info.
The ham flatbread was probably wet because the employees didn't have very much flatbread and were in the middle of thawing it when they ordered because they ordered so much. Hence, the frozen water crystals in the bread melted and soaked the bread.

As a German: That’s just really really bad bread. If you don’t wanna eat it as it is or just with butter, your bread is awful.
This is America where we have been sold out to corporations for decades. They know sugar is highly addictive so this is what we start our young out with because it seems healthy but gets you hooked on sugar...
We, as Americans, are very aware that most of the food our FDA approves for us is not the best food. It’s a major issue and a honestly a health crisis, but it’s not something us civilians can control, especially those living in poverty. I’m glad your government cares about the food that goes into your body, but it’s a luxury for most Americans to buy actually good food and ingredients. So please don’t act elitist about our bread, or really any of our food. We already know a vast majority of the world has stricter laws surrounding food than us.
