  • Operating model of the CNJ's McMyler dumper used in Jersey City, NJ on Pier 18. The dumper was scratch built by Jules H. as a featured attraction on the Garden State Central Model Railroad Club layout in Asbury Park, NJ.
    www.gardenstate...
    As seen in the April, 2009 issue of Railroad Model Craftsman magazine.
    Full hoppers are pushed up the hill on the right and into the dumper. The dumper picks the car up and flips is upside down to dump out the coal. Then it rights and lowers the car. When the next full hopper is pushed into the dumper, it forces the empty car out and down the kick-back track to the empties yard.
    We now offer 2 different T-Shirt designs of the McMyler Dumpers from Jersey City.

    Unbelievable. Excellent modeling. With skills like that, you'll be demoing a new braking system for the hump yard any day. Really, this was pure joy to watch.

    Brad, we did the opposite. We used plans we got from the steel mill groups to make the model. That was how we figured out how to get the chains to grab the car and hold it down. We were also luck enough to go to Port Reading and look at the remains of their McMyler dumper.

  • @muss1951

    Very Very cool It seems no matter how good , how perfect, how realistic something looks, you always have to have some rivet counter tell you did something wrong. Just enjoy the passion and the creativity of what the person did. And then you can re create it and we will dissect yours

    That's amazing. I just visited the McMyler in Port Reading last week, and when I was there I had no idea of what I was looking at or how it worked. Now not only do I know, but I got to see how it worked as well. Great modeling job.

    i work at cxs toledo docks in ohio, we had three coal dumpers at our facility that were brownhoist dumpers. they have long since been torn down,but we have a belt machine that loads 6000 ton an hour. but the old riggs were the most fun to operate.

  • @gscrr
    @gscrr  14 лет назад +2

    @NSmodeler24 It's just the coal that you can get from any scenery company (I think it was Woodland Scenics, but I'm not sure). After you dump for a while, you just have to filter out the fine dust. We re-use the dust as ground cover in other places on the layout.

  • @gscrr
    @gscrr  14 лет назад +1

    @limosalimosa Speed. You can fully empty a hopper quicker from the big opening at the top than from the smaller openings on the bottom. The quicker you can empty the car, the more cars you can process in an hour (even back then).
