    Awesome collection Matt! Just when I think I have everything I want, you get some really good stuff! Definitely gonna add a few of these to the wish list. I saw that paleness on your BZ57. Definitely different than that beautiful Aurora Borealis specimen.

    It was really cool to see your collection. Love these tours. I just posted my unboxing of my first order from you. Feel free to comment if you watch it. In those big mother pots, do you drill holes in the back almost half way up to let excess water drain? I do that with large bogs but not sure if I need to with pots of that size. You see the ones I use in my video.

      Yeah, definitely within 18 months I'll have some to offer, probably less than 12 months! It's going good in TC right now but it's just a single culture at the moment. Gotta get it propagated and then hardened off. Hopefully by next spring or summer!!

    With many of your flytraps being specific cultivars have you ever had problems keeping seedlings out? I see that you let some of them flower. I ask because I let my b52s flower and I want to keep the seeds separate from the mother plants. Some of the seeds fell before I realized.

    • @MattMillerFlytrapStore
      @MattMillerFlytrapStore 2 года назад +1

      Seedlings germinating in the pots does happen from time to time but I'm pretty good about harvesting the seed quickly most of the time. And they grow so slowly that it is very easy to pick out any seedlings that germinate in the pots.

  • @ayinwithnoyang
    @ayinwithnoyang 10 месяцев назад +1

    How were you able to pot the vft in those specific type of pots? Are they glazed?

    • @MattMillerFlytrapStore
      @MattMillerFlytrapStore 10 месяцев назад +1

      I'm guessing you're referring to the large round "mother" pots -- those are painted polyurethane foam pots. They aren't glazed but the foam is inert. They're great pots!!

      @ayinwithnoyang I've had them for about 15 years and got them from a friend. They were manufactured by Southern Patio and I think they still make similar products.

    Thanks Matt! I LOVE looking at all those flytraps! I see you're back to using normal CP soil mix which I'm glad to see. I tried the LFSM on a few plants the past 2-3 years but I don't like it, such a PITA to remove during repotting season. They grow fine in it but no better than normal CP mix IMHO.

    • @MattMillerFlytrapStore
      @MattMillerFlytrapStore 2 года назад

      Yep, we are using peat now for the last 2 years but I might have to switch back to LFSM again. I was able to source high-quality peat moss in Oregon that is consistently low in minerals and has very little refuse in it. But I can't seem to find a source here. The peat I have been able to get is OK but I have had a few bad bales already and it sets the plants back a lot. Flytraps do grow faster in the LFSM but in this Missouri climate the difference is small. It was much more noticeable in Oregon. It is also much more time consuming to pot in LFSM so I'd really like to not go back to it but if I can't find good peat, I might have to. I could just rinse the peat a few times to flush minerals out but our water situation here is not good (tap water >300 ppm TDS) so I don't have the luxury of unlimited water.

    • @Tommyr
      @Tommyr 2 года назад +1

      @@MattMillerFlytrapStore WOW, 300 TDS??? Damn! Mine is typically around 125-135 so I can't use it. Luckily we get a lot of rain in the N.E. so I almost never run out. Bought a 20 cup Zero water pitcher for a backup system. They work very well.

    • @MattMillerFlytrapStore
      @MattMillerFlytrapStore 2 года назад +1

      @@Tommyr yeah, our tap water is about 330-350ppm. Almost all of the bedrock around here is limestone so it is super soluble and the ground water ends up with a lot of calcium and magnesium in it. We do have about 1500 gallons of rain storage right now but when it is hot and dry, the pitcher plants suck it down like crazy. Only lasts 3-4 days then I'm out and since we haven't been getting much rain, I have to run the 1000gpd RO unit, which wastes a ton of water. Not ideal.
      We should get another 2500 gallon cistern up soon, which will help a lot. We would be at 4000 gallons of storage then and that might give us enough of a buffer to last between rain storms.
