If you stick a golf tee in the center of the valve to add a little pressure as you juice it with the drill it works pretty good. It doesn't take too much to get them to seat
I put a neo magnet on the valve and just push down with a socket on an extension and it grabs the keepers. To install, I cut a little 1" x 1" cardboard square and use the same socket with the keepers in the retainer and push down, the valve pops through the cardboard but the card board pushes the retainers down into place. Solid FTW

I've got zero experience with anything when it comes to working on cars. I've watched my dad growing up do breaks and oil changes, tire rotations but that is it. I've done stuff here and there like normal tune up stuff, plugs, wires, breaks, oil changes... I started watching you guys and Cleeter and decided to do a transmission on my 07 tiburon.. took a month but I did it all myself even the huge K frame underneath and then bench pressing the transmission into place. I am now taking out the engine of my 09 STi hatch and I feel completely overwhelmed... feel like I bit off more than I can chew but watching you guys gives me hope. Doing my best to mark/tag everything best I can. I am totally addicted.... I can't wait for you guys to upload, I get off work and come strait to the computer to check YT for new videos. You guys are keeping me sane and driven to do things myself. I really hope it works out and you best bet I am buying some merch and putting your merch on my christmas list... I love the new shirts! about lapping the valves in with the drill : you might be able to apply more pressure if you put a gloved finger with a dab of grease to the valves head pressing it on the seat while using the drill to spin it

900hp will do good for the hatch on the strip with fresh upgraded diff and fresh fluid and make sure you grab some more beefy axels for the hatch it deserves it for sure

When doing the drill hose trick for lapping valves I use a short piece of hose so it can’t get twisted up. And apply pressure on the valve with your finger so you’re not pulling the hose off valve

Gotta lil camber , you can see it when you're pulling into the cul-de-sac . A t least it isn't a Ferd I-beam setup, so it is adjustable. Overall the Pig looks pretty good.

Hmmmz crazy way to test if your valves wont leak.. little tip make sure the block is laying flat. And fill up the exnition chamber then use a compressor and air pistol then blow air trugh the in and outgoing ports close up with rack to and see if bubbles appear if it does compound again their are 2 grains of compound paste rough and fine
Nice work on that lapping them valves , like you said little hard work machining 101 hand tools started that way the right brothers made an air plane from a bike' few car manufactures as well . 👍👍👍

Fingers crossed for those 6000 series valves, hatch isnt driven as much but alot of people had to go to competition plus if they were turbo, the high heat ended up burning the valves on the exhaust side
Those suction cups come off of those wooden lapper dowels.. i just stuck one on a quarter inch bit holder/ extender and used a drill from the top of the head last time i had to lap valves.. was a life saver cuz was a 32 valve.. woulda been there for a week.. also used an old socket for the retainers and welded it to an old big ass c clamp. Cut the whole side off of the socket so i could get my needle nose up in.. made things a lot less aggravating..

Drill and the vacuum line is how I was showed my dad laughed when I mentioned the lap tool. Then showed me this and that lap tool is probably still in the same spot 20 years later. Make sure to get light impact on the valves the hitting the seats together helps a lot and reduces chatter.
I was the same way. I don't think mine ever even owned a lapping tool, he showed me the same drill and hose method and that's the only way I've ever done it.
Plus a gut and ported OEM manifold is one of the best there is. Look at badguys racing for there CNC billet oem ported manifold! It is amazing and makes impressive numbers.

retainers go in the top piece rubber from a inner tube cut into a circle goes on top compress the soring retainers go in by themselves and u release the compressor done
something I learned when doing valve springs this way. I threw a magnet on the socket so when it'd explode apart there was a good chance I didn't have to hunt for the keepers

Put a old valve in the drill, and stick the lapping tool to both valves ends
Best way to take that head apart is using a small 3/8 extension with that socket. Reduces the chance the keepers will fly off. Good work

i recommend red diesel for doing that head leak test you did. gives some extra lubrication for the parts and cleans them

retainers go in the top piece rubber from a inner tube cut into a circle goes on top compress the soring retainers go in by themselves and u release the compressor done

Should build the other hatch exactly the same way except keep it. Front wheel drive complete wire tuck, and full exhaust.
something I learned when doing valve springs this way. I threw a magnet on the socket so when it'd explode apart there was a good chance I didn't have to hunt for the keepers
