These guys really fumbled here. You NEVER isolate dragons. First of all it sours your “plan B” and it also gives leverage to your preferred dragon to make it difficult for you. The question that should’ve been asked: “Are either of you willing to be more competitive on your share” If no “Would either of you be interested in a drop down to 5% once your investment is paid back” And then that way they out pressure on both dragons and also their preferred dragon without making it obvious.
In reference to the 2nd pitch, we so often see dragons irate at entrepreneurs who over value there business. But with the supplement pitch there, the dragons were wanting 110k investment across both of his businesses, therefore grossly undervaluing his 1st businesses. This happens quite regularly. I'm glad that guy didn't give in and rightly pointed out "you need more than 110k to invest"
They never said any percentage though. Also, distributors run on small margins and make their money on volume. His turnover wasn't that impressive to begin with and didn't show any signs of real growth. 110k for 10% of both companies would still be grossly overvaluing his 1st business. Add to that that he wanted his distribution company to be the sole distributer of the product, this whole pitch was never a real proposition anyway...
