Loved the lesson, the irritating thing is that if I get the notes I still won't be able to make the guitar sing like you and Koss did. :-) More, please.
Thanks for this!! I’m in the middle of an obsession with the playing of Paul kossoff. Thank you feeding it so directly! I love all your videos. You are an expressive a knowledgeable player!! Thank you!
Great video. Great guitar player. We lost way too many to drugs and the after effects of drugs. I’m thankful so many made it through and got straight so they could continue to bring us awesome music.
Love the lesson. To me , from wafching Paul play many times in London, i noticed the connection between the style of Freddie King, the bends and heavy vibrato especially.
Koss kind of reminds me of a really gritty Peter Green. Those 9s and all the hammers make me really think of PG, who was a super influential player at that time in London.
Dave Brewster RULES! I keep clamoring for more King Diamond/Mercyful Fate & Akira Takasaki,/Loudness feature Lessons, but Paul Kossoff & Free is Probably what I really Need, I Trust Mr Brewster's, Judgement & Direction & Wisdom!
Paul Kossoff has one of my top 3 solos. Free - Moonshine (live) when you RUclips search it. 9+ minute song but man, the feel he has on that one is killer
Great shout out for Paul...great guitarist, great band much underrated. His vibrato at the top of a tone and a half bend is insane, and i strive to be able to do it. For the uniniated check out Paul backed up against a Marshal stack strangling the hell out of his Les Paul playing Mr. Big at the Isle of White in '70.❤
Thanks, you pick some ear opening material! Enjoyed the chords video as well, pulling some of these gems into my playing is challenging and fun at the same time. Rock on!
1:02 My dad was room mates with Michael Bloomfield in the 60's. Before my time, I never met him. Edit: 7:38 That's hilarious! I actually learned to sweep pick in the late 70's by playing that Woody Woodpecker theme. lols In fact, I learned a lot of music playing guitar while watching cartoons. Popeye the sailor, the Flintstones, the Jetsons, and a lot of other TV show themes.
Just learned Fire and Water and this show how he was chancing the chords. Great lesson by the way. I've subscribed and look forward to hooking up along the way 😊
Paul Kossoff was ruined by drug abuse. Another real talent that died way too soon. No one quite gets the Kossoff sound right even today. His mentor Eric Clapton was particularly impressed with the vibrato technique Kossoff used. It would good to back to proper bands and groups and composers rather than machine or computer written and played music with no soul.
Damn thank you for this!! Koss is my number one favorite player! This really unlocked some vital stuff for me! I’ve always wondered also how exactly he played that descending triple double stop thing he used to do so much live. There’s like three double stops and another three double stops and ends on I think two slower double stops and a single note vibrato if you know the lick I’m talking about, and he often repeats it but I can never quite get it. And a lot of licks that he did on Tons Of Sobs are still a mystery to me as well. But this helped tons! Was that sweep thing from Free Me? I know a lot of the other stuff is from Mr Big. Hey thank you so much!! I’ve been a fan since the early 90s. So you have no idea how much this means to me! 🙏 great lesson!
@@Aja-nt Right right, I've been following him for quite sometime even back in the Privettricker days. I've learned a lot from that man mainly 'right or wrong have fun with it'
Kossoff definitely influenced other guitarists... Angus Young is one of them (you can especially hear it on the earlier AC/DC records), Allen Collins and Gary Rossington were a couple of others,
Back Street Crawler albums are not bad, you can get from chords and licks from them to make a lesson. I like Bernie Marsden solo albums they are hard to find. George Lynch new album Seamless is coming out so you have to make a new George Lynch 2021 lesson, but I know your mind is set on the new Debbie Gibson album coming out on august-20-2021 to bring back memories of the 80's.
Just letting you know that I'm a long-time subscriber and I always click your videos because they are very interesting topics, but you talk so much I always end up clicking to something else before the actual lesson.
Kossoff absolutely The master !
I listen to free every week. Paul Kossof never gets old to me
'Be my friend' is still one of my favorite tunes. Andy Frazer on bass was Paul's secret weapon and so overlooked.
Mine too as well as "Love you so"
Paul was a true genius and his work remains legendary to this day. Thank you for sharing.
Paul Kossoff's vibrato was truly unique, definitely one of the best if not THE best
Mr Big....sparce but so heavy n full of swagger from the whole band,
59' Gibson Les Paul Standard in Paul Kossoff's hands....priceless!
And there it is!!!!!
Thanks B 🐓
I was one of the requestists
Loved Paul Kossoff ...great vibrato .gone way too young...Thank you Dave ..for these awesome lessons !!
He was an absolute beast. Paul and Steve Gaines are two losses from the 70's that would have probably been icons today had they survived.
Absolutely true! Steve Gaines never gets nearly enough credit
Koss’ is an icon !!
I’m convinced that the source of Kossoff’s power, was his sideburns.
Loved the lesson, the irritating thing is that if I get the notes I still won't be able to make the guitar sing like you and Koss did. :-) More, please.
You have to figure out how to make it sing in your own way. These excellent lessons will surely help get you there.
Thanks for this!! I’m in the middle of an obsession with the playing of Paul kossoff. Thank you feeding it so directly! I love all your videos. You are an expressive a knowledgeable player!! Thank you!
His father was a very well known British actor, David Kossoff.
Paul’s is such a sad story and a stark warning about the misuse of drugs.
At last; the late, great Koss. Thanks so much for both this and the chord lesson David 👏
I LOVE my SL Drive!!! Through my '68 Deluxe Reverb....it has afantastic sound! Great stuff Proffesor Brew!!!
Another superb break down, Cant wait for the Chord Play bring it on !
You are a great guitarplayer with much feeling. 🎸good stuff .
Great video! Fire and Water and The Hunter(albert king cover) are killer songs by Free. Koss and his vibrato...🔥
Great video. Great guitar player. We lost way too many to drugs and the after effects of drugs. I’m thankful so many made it through and got straight so they could continue to bring us awesome music.
I’ve been super into free again lately and Paul’s vibrato, great video 🤘
I can't believe it - Kossoff. Thanks again Dave.
My brother jake is another interesting chordal song with Paul on a Strat. Mr Big interesting doorsesque voicing of E7#9.
Great lesson. Great guitarist 😊🎶
Thank you for your hard work, David!!! I appreciate this Classic Rock big time!
Yes thank you for reminding me this is why i love your channel cant believe i almost forgot about paul man good job !
Love the lesson. To me , from wafching Paul play many times in London, i noticed the connection between the style of Freddie King, the bends and heavy vibrato especially.
Excellent!
Very interesting. Koss still had more extremely good and unique phrases. Let's say this video showed 1/3 of Koss' phrasing. Excellent video.
Koss kind of reminds me of a really gritty Peter Green. Those 9s and all the hammers make me really think of PG, who was a super influential player at that time in London.

Moonshine's solo is one of the most complex to perform. That solo is a phenomenon!
The Woody Woodpecker Technique sounds amazing!
You da man Dave! Thanks again 👍🏻
Awesome!

The greatest vibrato ..ever!
Great lesson Dave. Koss is my main man and it’s great to see a lesson showing some not so obvious licks of his. Subscribed. 👍
Dude you’re a great teacher. Thank you
You have good technique, and the tone sounds so much like Kossoff's its amazing
Very interesting explanation, man! 🤟🏻⚡
Just learned Fire and Water and this show how he was chancing the chords. Great lesson by the way. I've subscribed and look forward to hooking up along the way 😊
So sad what drugs did to Kossoff and some of the greatest rock guitarists. Tommy Bolin was amazing. I was surprised you mentioned him. So talented.

Underrated af !! Please do Gary Richrath licks next !
Early REO rocked, Gary was a beast live
Sorry I can only give this post one thumbs up!
Huge second on that request.
Wring that neck from Deep Purple ,also has the "woody woodpecker" sound to it,even more so.

You sound EXACTLY like a young George Gruhn. Cool!
Nice vib man. Got the essence of Koss for sure. Best example for me is the Free Live version of The Hunter
Love your vids man! just noticed you always change the album cover in the back! Great touch!
i love the jeff Beck/Free pictures on the wall ..ps after the guitar lessons of Paul Kossoff , can you show us how to get his Lions mane hair style..?
Hey Dave did you ever do a video on Michael Schenker? I love his smooth, fluid phrasing! Very melodic and tasteful
Yeh he did, although I wish he would do another one more focused on Michaels UFO days
@@brianmcdermott281 he has both M.S licks x2 and ufo and M.S. chord play
Amen Youngster
I've noticed that both Paul Kossof and Rory Gallagher liked to work the minor second into their pentatonic licks. Very interesting.
Educate the youngins sir you are legend.
sick tone bro.
Wishing Well!
Very cool !! You must have been watching JJ’s channel he has did a lot of FREE lately
JJ who? Point in me in the direction of this guitar guru
@@j1shot2 Just look up James James. He does lots of great classic rock songs...and does them well.

@@j1shot2 That's so true and often missing in what's being taught. Have you checked out Guthrie Trapp's lessons? Each one is a masterclass.
Love the Bonus Lick
Well done lesson! Koss aimed to move the listener, and that he did, all too briefly.
Awesome lesson. How about a John Fogerty licks lesson?
Yesssssss
Great lesson David. Grew up with Paul's playing. Curious, are you running .010s in standard tuning on the Paul? Seems like fairly slinky action.
Paul was also classically trained .
Some of chords he used were the classical version which can be a long stretch for enhanced sound rather than ease of playing.
John Martyn was friends with Kossoff, Kossoff gave him one of his LP's.
Great stuff, Kossof, what a tragedy though.
I saw them at college dates before the hit single when they were probably not even 20 years old.
An insect? I had imagined a jaded angel struggling with life… but hey, insect!!
Kossoff definitely influenced other guitarists... Angus Young is one of them (you can especially hear it on the earlier AC/DC records), Allen Collins and Gary Rossington were a couple of others,
Yep skynyrd fo sho!
Wow don't get me going on Back Street Crawler The Band plays on Album!!
👍

Is he basically doing this, or actually doing it?🤣 I had to bust your balls!🤘😝🤘
When are you going to do “Steve Vai: 3 licks from “album” by PiL”? Seriously.
Jeff Waters from Annihilator licks would be great
We need face melting licks of Trey Anastasio.
🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁
Have you looked at Mick Ronson ?
What do you mean Jimmy Page sweeps on Since I've Been Loving You.
Woody Woodpecker was the first, paving the way for Yngwie & Racer X.
Paul Kossoff remains one of the most criminally ignored talents ; the guy has no superior as far as blues rock playing is concerned IMO.
Er, nothing can be “Very Unique”. It’s either unique or it ain’t, sunshine.
