The last shows in television history with all male casts I can think of were The A Team and Magnum PI. And yet men and women loved them both equally. It's crazy how tv networks don't realize now that you can have all male casts or all female casts and work as long as they're great shows.

How wrong you are Dirk! I was a 11/12 y.o. girl and absolutely loved this show! I'm in my 40s now and watching it again I think I'm having even more fun this time. Realizing Amy was only in the first season was quite sad because I remembered her all these years as being part of the team; if I couldn't be Hannibal - the one I identified the most with - at least I wanted to be her and kick major ass. This was a great show but it's obvious there are people like me who think it's so much fun because of its inconsequentiality, its light-hearted violence where no one ever died and seldom got hurt, its cartoonish way of solving problems in ways that, in most cases in real life, would be made far worse. And then there are people, apparently starting with the actors themselves, who think that show was in any way to be taken seriously, like some role model for "real men". You have to be a fool to think that in real life, having that attitude, isn't a sure way to get people hurt, killed and dragged through court in massive amounts.
Wouldn't say Amy "kicked major ass" she didn't really do anything when she was there which is one of the reasons the actress quit along with what Dirk said here about her and Peppard. It's great that there are girls that dig the show but Dirk's not wrong that it waa very much a guy's show aimed at boys and guys. That was the main demo they were appealing to.

She was a great concept, the capable, independent woman of the 80s who can very well take care of herself and aid the group with her knowledge and connections, instead of being the token female who's main role is being the femme fatale (like in Mission: Impossible for ex.). But she ended up poorly written and with skills that too much overlapped with those of Faces or Hannibal. Just because a show is aimed at a given target audience it usually doesn't hurt if it can capture non main targets too and Amy, I'm sure, was far more appealing to girls who like action/adventure series than the overdone useless bimbo . In fact, the blonde replacent apparently wasn't that much of an idea either and didn't seem to appeal to the target audience that much either as she was also promptly dispatched.
