Randy Bachman Gretch guitar that he bought when he was a teenager and cherished, was stolen from a Toronto hotel room 45 years age. It was recently found in Japan. It had been purchased by a Japanese musician from a vintage guitar store. The new owner agreed to return it to Randy and on July 1st there was a ceremony at the Canadian Embassy in Japan and Randy was given back his guitar. He gave the Japanese musician another Gretch guitar that was made the same week as Randys. There is a documentary being made about this happy ending story.

I also heard that Randy Bachman had the world's largest collection of Gretch guitars and When Gretch's plant burned and all of their prototypes destroyed they bought his Gretch guitars for a million dollars.
BTO is a great band! Check out “you Ain’t seen nothing yet”, “Gimme your money please”, “shotgun rider”, “hold back the water”, “blue collar”. All great songs! Peace ✌️
Back in the 70's as a young pre-teen, I stayed at my older cousins house for a couple of weeks in the summer and they were blasting this song while cleaning the house. It was such a great time and I'll never forget it.
Randy Bachman has a real soulful voice. Many of my black friends thought he was a brother when I first introduced them to BTO. They love it to this day!! Great reaction, guys!!
Wife here..Have literally heard and loved this song all my life,..You guys are Rocking today!!!...So clever with the lyrics.., As Always!!.This song definately brings the funk...:!!!...
So this is how it went down, according to Randy Bachman. The guy that delivered them pizza in the studio while they were doing a playback was asked what he thought of the song. He says to Bachman, “It needs some piano boogie”, and seeing a piano in the studio says, “can I show you what i mean?”, and proceeded to theow down rockin’ boogie piano! The pizza guy got on the album! Livin’ the dream!
I can always tell when "reactors" listen and "Like" a song. Both of your facial expressions, and the emotions you exude in the early moments of a song, let me know instantly weather or not we are on the same page. Love listening to my youth again with Asian and Bj. Feels like I am hanging at the skating rink on the weekend as a kid but, slightly more diverse than where I grew up, thank goodness.
I love BTO, but liked The Guess Who even more. The should really check out the live version of American Woman on The Guess Who Live at The Paramount. Great concert. Every song on the album is a gem.
This song came out in 1973 and was huge at the time. For much of the 80s and 90s this song was used in Office Depot commercials, which is where I first heard it, then my dad had to explain I was an idiot and it was an older song, lol.
BTO, Damn !! These guys rocked when I was still in high school. We really had some good music back then...I know it gets said a lot but I really enjoy hearing some of the old songs that you hardly hear anymore.

1975 cruisen in a 1971 Cadillac and jamming to BTO on a quadraphonic format sound system sounded as if they were in the car with us . Brought back some fond memories. Keep up the good work
Just another fantastic song from the greatest decade of music=the 70's. "Chances are you'll go far if you get in with the right bunch of fellows"☺️ Come on and just agree that every time you play a song from the 70's your ears, body, and soul are treated to pure happiness, and the SMILES that are ALWAYS on your faces confirms what you are feeling.... 1970's rock, R-n-B, and yes Disco= Greatest Decade
You need to hear the story about the piano player in the song! He was delivering pizza for Steve Miller in a studio in the same building and heard what they were doing and said they needed some piano and laid it down for them and went on his way. They had to find him the next day after listening to the piano playing that was recorded the night before.
This song makes me laugh. I had an uncle who hated rock music and he used to ask me…. What business? Told him they fixed cars. Hahaha!!! If I told him what it really meant, I’d never hear the end of it.
I had the pleasure of seeing BTO open for Van Halen back in the 80s. That was one of the best shows I've ever been to. It was amazing. Touring musicians definitely work overtime. There's all the travel, the practice sessions, the live shows. Oh, and in between all that, they're constantly writing new music. Now, the perks are definitely there. Guys with the level of success enjoyed by BTO were making mint, at least relatively speaking. A quick Google search yielded Randy Bachman's net worth as $15 million. Not too shabby, considering he performed mostly in the 70s and 80s, when they weren't handing out the kind of money they do today. Same thing with the sports icons of that era; they didn't make near what they do today.
I saw them on that tour too with Van Halen but it was at the Texxas Jam and Leslie West came out and played Mississippi Queen with them. I also saw them in 1978.
Randy Bachman was part of The Guess Who & then went on to form the band BTO. Both were great Canadian rock bands. BTO had a lot of great songs in the 70's such as "Hey You", "Roll On Down The Highway", "Lookin' Out For #1", "Not Fragile", "Four Wheel Drive" etc.
He didn’t have a solo career with BTO. He and Fred Turner formed the band, with both Randy and Fred taking turns at vocals. When Burton Cummings left the Guess Who, he went on to a solo career.
Fun fact : Taking Care of Business was a motto Elvis Presley's. In the late seventies I went to Memphis and visited Graceland. All of the stores in the strip male across from Graceland had items with the TCB emblem on them. I've often wondered if it wasn't the influence for this song.
Yeah BTO had a lot of great songs but this is by far my favorite. Back in 1974 when this came out, my family took a trip to Chicago to see my Aunt Teresa and Uncle Ross. One night my sister and me and my cousins spent a night in a tent in the backyard listening to the radio and this song came up constantly, was a huge hit. We danced and laughed and played air guitar. All these years later, this is still a certified banger. Thanks for the memories and thanks for your awesome reactions!
I'm glad you guys covered this! My wife and I flew from Houston to Toronto, Ontario Canada in July 2022 to see him and Burton Cummings (they were in The Guess Who together. This was the first song I danced to with a girl back in 1974 when I joined the Air Force!
In 1974, in Bedford, Massachusetts I was a junior in high school. And we used to play this song in the locker room to get pumped before basketball games. Our record wasn't great but it gave us energy to play. And then, Bachman Turner Overdrive (BTO) hit us with their next song, LET IT ROLL (DOWN THE HIGHWAY). Now that song will pin your ears back and have you howling at the top of lungs. Especially with two great guitar solos. LET IT ROLL !!!
Absolutely love your channel!!! This took me back to high school, when this song came on the radio it was time to crank up the sound, and roll down the windows.l
I played this song on my Walkman while we were crossing the minefields into Kuwait during Desert Storm. To this day I can still see my driver rocking out to this. What was the worse that could have happened, it'd all be over in a flash!!! GREAT TUNE!!
Well I just learned that I have been singing a lyric wrong since about the mid 70’s. I thought it said Taking Care of Business “peace of mind” and just found out it is “it’s all mine!!! 😜 Also Taking Care of Business was one of Elvis’ favorite sayings. @Deborah Taylor don’t feel bad. Randy Bachman wrote that chorus on stage one night at the end of their last set. So the words were right off the top of his head!
Bachman-Turner Overdrive one of the top-ranked rock and roll bands of the 70's nothing but great blues (Looking out for number one.)heavy rock and roll power chords. BTO, love them and your reaction. My favorite BTO song is Blue Collar, highlights Randys jazz influence. You have heard Randy Bachmann before, he is the guitarist of the Guess Who and writer of American Woman.
Great Reaction to TAKIN' Care of Business. When it hit the airwaves, it play nearly every other song for weeks. Lot's of videos have been done with this song.

I really wonder if Elvis had heard this song. If he had it very likely would have been a favorite of Elvis as Taking Care Of Business was Elvis motto & he even wore a necklace with letters attached, TCB, an abreviation for Taking Care Of Business.
Similar to the character in Dire Straits "Money for Nothing", there is a perception that rock stars don't work hard, and I think Bachman is playing with that. But certainly, time is more flexible, and what you do and how you do it is what counts, not the hours you put in.
They are talking about if you are a musician And you are popular and getting paid Then you're not really working ...And they are taking care of business at working at nothing all day (love the music/popularity)
Totally HONEST lyrics from Randy, a Canadian still playing at it. Has a concert night here, outdoors, in late August 2022, with his first partner, Burton Cummings
Have always loved this song since I was a little kid. Friends and I used to joke around when singing this song, replacing the lyrics "takin care of business" with "takin care my bees wax" Lol...I guess kids will do anything for a laugh.
