    At first that is what happened with our babies, and we thought that all the moms lost their babies. Then all of the sudden like a month later, one baby shrimp emerged each day, all different sizes, all the same colors though. All red rili shrimp. Each new one was smaller than the last. So we have one adult, all the way down to about a month and a half hold. It has been interesting. Now, they feel safe enough that they are out and about immediately. Itty bitty tiny babies all over the place. We had a mom having babies every few days to once a week or once one mom had babies, a different mom shrimp was pregnant. I thought our two original moms were done having babies but my red cherry shrimp just showed up as pregnant today. Our black chocolate shrimp lost her babies for the second time in a row, it was so sad!! She is such a beautiful shrimp. She went from chocolate while not pregnant to black with a gold stripe down her back while pregnant and the stripe faded back to black and she wasn't pregnant anymore. All the other mom's kept their babies. Any ideas why this might have happened? She could've had them early I guess, but that would've been the quickest delivery out of all the shrimp.

    For me, I never feed special food for babies and seems they will find their food probably on java moss (biofilm) or on the glass (algae) AS LONG AS THERE IS NO FISH.
    And I started at 10, died some, bought some, finally they started to breed after a few rounds of buying and dying, finally I got > 50 in 3 months and > 100 in half year.

    As always thank you for the excellent information, always learning something👍.
    As I am not familiar, I was curious, at about 4:46 min in the worms protruding from the substrate, detritus worms? If so I’m sure the fish eat them?

    • @FishKeepingAnswers
      @FishKeepingAnswers  Год назад +1

      Hi. They are detritus worm. Fish do eat them readily. Unfortunately, I don’t have any fish in that tank 😩

    So shrimps produce babies directly into water? Like molly or guppy

    • @FishKeepingAnswers
      @FishKeepingAnswers  4 месяца назад +2

      They hold their eggs beneath their bodies for around 30 days until the eggs hatch into free swimming baby shrimp 👍🏻

  • @paradoxicalocus3761
    @paradoxicalocus3761 Год назад +1

    My RCS threw some brown speckled (wild type-ish?) babies, and I keep them at 80°F with some guppies. The brown shrimp matured slightly faster than their red siblings, I suspect because their could eat more unperturbed using their natural camouflage.
    They were berried 2 months after they themselves were eggs! High temp = high metabolic rate.
    Question: I’ve googled and failed to find the exact method by which the female attaches the eggs to her pleopods? Tiny hooks? Gel? Grasping?

      Hi. I am not sure of the scientific terminology, but I believe they are held by some sort of a ribbon. I did read about it a while ago. If I can find the article I will link to it for you 👍🏻

    So my shrimp dont eat their sheds is this problematic? My water is from a bore hole and is high in calcium so i think they get enough calc from that but i worry since every few days there are unattended sheds lying around

      Shrimp not eating their molts is not a problem at all 👍🏻

    Is there a difference between breeding red cherry shrimp and yellow backline shrimp ? I buy them same time and the red shrimp are having a ton of babies but the yellow shrimps im still waiting for a female to get pregnant. I now have them 3 months, they have both the same tank size and parameters

      As Fai W’s comment, they are essentially the same when it comes to breeding. Maybe the yellow females just weren’t as mature 🤷🏻‍♂️

    Does anyone put egg shells in there tank for snails and shrimp for calcium?

    • @FishKeepingAnswers
      @FishKeepingAnswers  Год назад +1

      In my experience, egg shell dissolves so slowly if doesn’t make a great deal of different. Crushed coral often works better 👍🏻

    • @moqiman8882
      @moqiman8882 Год назад

      I heard that you can smash the egg shells into powder then add to the tank. Not sure if it is any good.

    • @oimeunomeevitorr
      @oimeunomeevitorr Год назад

      @@moqiman8882for snails that worked for me, but there are more effective ways to do that, but in a emergency, take the inside skin of the chicken egg off let it dry in the sun for hours than turn it in to powder

    Is molting a definite sign of a female going to drop her eggs? Just last week, I found a exoskeleton on my driftwood......how exciting!!! I'm going to have shrimplets!!!!

      I am not sure if this actually answers your question, but a female molts prior to mating. Hopefully you will have babies soon 🤞🏻
