Yeah, the chaos of war, reminiscent of Hendrix's Star Spangled Banner at Woodstock and how he used his guitar to symbolise the annihilation of Vietnam. Bloody Revolutions is another Crass masterpiece. Never forget. Keep up the fight my friend.
My sister is only twenty and she is joining the RAF and I am shit scared that because of the state's power games with other countries, I'm not going to see her again.
The absurdity is making them choose between two oppressive powers. Britian had long since forgotten about this lost part of Empire until it was convenient for its ends. This is why they relied on Argentina for all their daily needs. Governments, British or otherwise, don't care for their people but rather the interests of the ruling elites.
Anarchy means taking responsibility for your own actions and not relying on government of any kind - or indeed using it as an excuse for personal failings. Governments of every kind rely on fear to paralyze the mind and inhibit free action. Only by taking direct moral action based on your own judgment can you liberate yourself from that fear. The individual participates in their own oppression by allowing themself to be oppressed. Don't you do it - be free!
Fantastis band, best of all time. I've still got the clear flexi discs of this song and Rival Tribal Rebel Revel. I heard most of these copies were called back in by the police. Is that true?
@DomestikMC " why does England need a small cluster of islands" They didn't and don't. In 1982 the Thatcher government was desperate to cut costs and couldn't wait to unload the islands onto anyone daft enough to ask. If the argies had asked politely they could have had the place tied up in pink ribbon. But they didn't. Instead Galtieri, a general in an army that hadn't fought an external war in 100 years, decided to chuck his weight about.
I was just saying what this song was about besides just the falklands war. and yes i saw how you where arguing about the falklands war and that it wasnt only thatcher who started the war.. well of course but it was her and her polictians and shit
ScotBron, what are your veiws that the islanders are "just as oppressed as you and me?" - have you ever been there at all? ever talked to the islanders who lived through the occupation, or talked to their children for their perspective??!! no?? i have, and let me tell you that the islanders are fiercy proud to be British. They cared more about Britain than most British people!
We live in a capitalist, oligarchic corporatocracy. This is a government dominated by corporate influence, banks and companies that believe not in freedom, but in private enterprise and bosses -- political power effectively rests with a small elite segment of society distinguished by royalty, wealth, family, military powers. Have you ever seen a poor president? My either. As for me, I want true democracy -- the ability to have a say in how I live my life. Viva libertad! Crass rocks!
Music has to be the best action next to real action. Nothing sticks it to the man better than a small social upheaval through the medium of music. Cheers 5/5
You make the mistake of thinking the British flag and the Argentine flag are different. They both represent the same thing. The last time I was oppressed? When I got out of bed and went to work, passed a policeman on the street, walked past Buckingham palace, when I voted in the sham of parliamentary democracy, when I protest, along with millions, against illegal wars and are ignored by "elected representatives". Every day. Like you.
wongah1> Are you trying to tell us that people who put themselves at risk of being imprisoned, beaten by police and largely disliked by the public are cowards ? I'm not an anarchist but I am an animal liberationist and I'm also against wars (basically we oppose the industrialised killing of animals and people and the general ill treatment of life which should be given the upmost respect).
Could'nt agree more mate ! Trafalgar Square..... We'll be there....., first saturday after Thatcher's death, Class War party. "just can't wait to piss on her grave"
Point is thatcher knew a potential situation was going to break out. She stood down the military and navy so that it could be considered a notable deployment or "war". She didn't care for the lives of the soldiers or the lives of the falklanders and simply cared more about her political neck. One squaddy, horrifically burnt in the Falklands War, Was approached by Prince Charles during a presentation. "Get well soon" said the Prince, to which the squaddy replied, "Yes Sir, I will".
not really, it's the people who are led, rather than think for themselves that are eating shit. Crass' message will be listened to long after world leaders bullshit has been forgotten. Anarchy, Peace, Freedom, Equality.
Well my response to that is that if people didn't join the armed forces politicians would either have to fight wars themselves or would need to find alternatives to armed conflicts. Idealistic and unworkable I know.
I wouldn't take Wiki as a great source for accuracy. Regardless, the Falklands war was a terrible war orchestrated between both the British and Argentine governments to booster support for their deep unpopularity. The British couldn't give a toss about the islanders - to the point that the islanders received all its needs from Argentina. Neither country had the interests of the people at heart, but then, they never do. Electoral victory means more than the lives of real people.
The Falkland Islanders are 100% fanatically loyal to Britain and have been for the last two hundred years or so. They celebrate Margret Thatcher Day every year to commemorate victory in the Falklands war. Another example is Gibraltar, who voted allmost unanimously to remain British subjects rather than rejoin Spain.
@@SD78 if it's only human nature, that's cool then. Human nature is *extremely* malleable. We'll just change human nature and abolish nationalism. Problem solved.

I still blame Thatcher. If you think a war is impending, you stockpile supplies, weapons and ready the troops. You don't move the army out then launch a propaganda campaign unless you are trying to sway public appeal. Thatcher didn't give a toss about the falklanders and cared more about improving her image and securing the '83 election. In that sense it is like Iraq as arguably bush would not have gotten elected had the war not happened.
maggie was in favour by all our troops coz she got us wat we needed wen we needed it, not like fresh faced cameron, all weve got is budgit cuts and troop cuts, in wat way are wesafe from any form of invasion?
@uprisingskill The falklands should of been given back a long time ago. Like all the other colonial lands got indepedance - Rhodesia, South Africa etc, guess "Great" Britain forgot about all the "citizens" it left behind there. It wouldn't of mattered who governed the place, and if they loved the UK so much, they should just move back, instead of living the rich good life at the expense of the poor of South Americans.
I put that down to no one having the talent of the anarcho bands such as Crass these days, it's all show with these guys... we need to depend on the likes of Oi Polloi to keep the flag flying.
Ok,that was in 1811, but Britian had claimed it as a colony in 1775, so using your logic, the Spanish then stole it from Britian, also if you apply that logic, the French established the first colony there in 1774, so they could say it's theirs.....
Regardless of what thatcher wanted the war was still just in the sense that it was did to protect innocents who is more to blame? teh snake for convincing adam to eat the fruit or adam for eating the fruit?
I think they have been proven right, war is wrong and constitutes nothing but a waste of life, governments are imposing greater control over our lives, just look at the smoking bans, cctv, new sus laws.. etc, Big Brother IS watching us and pulling all the strings to the gullible puppet public..... finally Crass were never communists they were/are Anarchists.

1492, 1982, does'nt really matter to be honest it's the pricinciple of ownership and right, all flags, sense of national identity and ideas of ownership are rather illusory in my opinion, Crass were not supportive of Argentina, just anti war. Anyway, the falklands were discoverd by the Dutch, then the French controlled them, then the British, then Spain, then Argentina, then Britian again, so like all places on this planet, it's just a succesion of Invasions and ownership by the stronger power.
and is this not a democratic society with the right to free speech ?.... hence the right to speak against whatever mob are in power. i will never be a subject or a citizen but a human being, nobody's property.....
