I disagree with r kahane about the jokes about 30 years ago reb yanked miller was the most popular badchen and people paid him thousands of dollars to come. Made people laugh, and he also brought in a lot of Torah. It’s a shame that the mitzvah of simchas chusen vkallah to make them happy. That is the mitzvah and not to make them cry. Why would you want to make them cry? It’s not the chuppa anymore. And why not make people happy yes, I would pay a lot of money for someone to make me happy and yes, with a yiddishe taam. I agree with you shmeuli. I’ve been talking to my husband about it for many years about this concept, and I think it’s very wrong to make people cry by their own wedding. Anything except for the Chupa should be a happy time. I’m still wondering why the jokes part was eliminated it was such a popular thing 30 years ago.
