    Gripen E's Meteor Missile vs F-35A's AIM-120D: Air-to-Air Superiority.
The Swedish Gripen E and American F-35A are the only two Western single-engine fighters produced and ordered by their manufacturing countries, and are two of the pioneers in supplying the Royal Canadian Air Force with new generation aircraft to replace aging aircraft. CF-18A/B Jets. Both the Gripen and F-35 have many similarities, including being designed to prioritize low production and operating costs compared to other aircraft of their generation, and having mediocre flight performance but a focus on advanced avionics and more than just visuals. range capability.

Do they know what they are talking about? SAAB was part of the development of the Meteor. The C/D version is expected to be supported and updated for more than ten years to come, probably more. The operation and maintenance cost of the F-35 is a magnitude higher than that of a Gripen. Quite interesting that supercruise is a capability of Gripen, but not for F-35. As a result, the definition was changed! Both F35 and Grip E/F are 4+ generations. But, and this is important, Gripen can operate in a war zone, whereas F-35 cannot.

The RAF intend to use Meteor in F35s and as such they are being adapted to fit the internal weapons bays though they already can potentially launch from pylons it is better to maintain stealth advantages. That combination is hard to detect and evade.

There’s no comparison between these two aircraft, not only are they of a different generation but, their usage is going to be different. Both are highly capable but, it’s just going to depend if it supports the purchasing country’s doctrine.

The F35 negates any range advantage the meteor may have by being able to so much closer to its target before calling "Fox three"
However, the Gripen E plus meteor combo is certainly world class

Comparisons between the Gripen and F35 are very different. Although Gripen E has excellent networking capabilities the situational awareness of F35 is better and only in a few areas does Gripen E better the F35 such as the Radar has a repositioner so can look sideways handy for notching or weapons integration you can use wide choices not just US choices.
But for many countries the absence of a nuclear delivery option, ITAR FREE restrictions or even limited parts might be a negative. Few would rule out purchasing Gripen due to its low costs PFH and Brazil might lower the cost of purchase as they build units independently.
But its not an easy comparison as F35 is simply a generation newer.

AIM 120D is the latest version of AMRAAM and has considerable range, roughly equivalent to F14's Phoenix so up to 100 miles . The Meteor is more capable but it is more expensive. Sweden have bought AMRAAM missiles recently ( AIM 120C 8 ) that are capable and are already integrated on Gripen, probably for the cost savings. Nobody would like to be on the receiving end of either.
