    I recently had my GBPS on may 10 I was so terrified because of the stories I heard from people and videos about how painful it was and how they weren’t able to do anything, but honestly for me it was a walk on the park I was on my feet that very same day walking and staying hydrated is the key and heating pad yes is true it’s hard to pass gas and burp but just pad on you chest coughing is painful but tolerable I haven’t touched my pain medication at all if it’s not necessary don’t take it but then again every body is different

    I’m having bypass surgery in 2 months. I originally was going for the sleeve but my doctor recommended the bypass due to my chronic acid reflux. I’m just more concerned about the malabsorption of nutrients with the bypass since I also suffer from anemia.

    • @LiveHealthyMD
      @LiveHealthyMD  2 года назад +5

      Both surgeries require taking supplements and can result in malabsorption. A nutrient deficiency after a bypass is generally not a major concern as long as you are eating a healthy and well-rounded diet.

    I was told that I am not a candidate 4 VSG that I would have 2 have a full gastric bypass becuz of my history of acid reflux. My concern is that I had heital hernia surgery over 6 yrs ago & the doctor said he would have 2 take whatever was done apart when he does the gastric bypass surgery. So will I have acid reflux worse with the gastric bypass surgery?

    • @LiveHealthyMD
      @LiveHealthyMD  3 года назад +2

      Under your circumstances it sounds like a gastric bypass is a better choice due to your reflux history. Although if you have doubts about what procedure to get, we encourage you to talk to another bariatric surgeon.

    • @LiveHealthyMD
      @LiveHealthyMD  3 года назад +4

      Hi Jaquaisha, loose skin is a legitimate concern after significant weight loss through surgery or traditional means. The amount of excess skin really depends on a variety of factors such as age, smoking history, amount of weight loss and body shape/type.
      We often tell our patients that they have to weigh the benefits of WLS against the consequences, however we have never met a patient they wished they were still overweight because they now have excess skin.

    • @LiveHealthyMD
      @LiveHealthyMD  2 года назад

      Hi, the best option is to reach out to your insurance company and ask them for bariatric surgeons they recommend that are in network. Be sure you are looking for a surgeon that is affiliated with a Center of Excellence program. Also, Bariatric Surgery Source has an option to find providers too: www.bariatric-surgery-source.com/bariatric-surgeon-in-my-area.html

  • @YeseniiaGaRu

    What’s the average cost of this surgery?

    • @LiveHealthyMD
      @LiveHealthyMD  2 года назад

      It will depend on if your insurance covers the cost of weight loss surgery. If you are self pay, it can range from $10K to $20K depending on the procedure and the program you go to. Your best option is to reach out to a nearby bariatric program and set up a consultation so they can verify your insurance.

    Question. I had vsg dec 2019. Hw 367, sw 330, cw 199. Lost or losing everywhere but stomach. I have big stomach that hangs and the more i lose the bigger it feels like its getting. I havent had any regain so im curious as to if its possible i can gain fat in my belly without it showing on scale? Like maybe my fat is transfering here while losing everywhere else? Or is it just because im losing and getting smaller im noticing the stomach more because i havent lost alot there?

    • @LiveHealthyMD
      @LiveHealthyMD  3 года назад +4

      Everyone's body is different and where you deposit fat will vary from one person to the next. It is likely that you are losing the weight and experiencing excess skin in the abdominal area. There are options to have skin removal surgery. We encourage you to reach out to a plastic surgeon in your area to see if this is an option with your insurance.

    • @LiveHealthyMD

      We mention that it is minor because it occurs in less than 1% of patients. We, as bariatric surgeons, also take the necessary precautions before your procedure to ensure you are not prone to blood clotting

    My mom had gastric bypass in 2006 and basically ended up starving to death over the course of 15 years. She died this month. The last 3 years she could barely eat and lost half of her body weight after already being underweight. She was so weak and couldn't walk. The doctors just kept sending her home. Finally her blood pressure was so low she fell and broke her artificial shoulder. She died a week later from surgical complications. Bottom line, this is a nasty procedure and in my opinion should be banned. Yeah it feels good the first two years when weight comes off but beware, for the rest of your life you are slowly starving to death.

    • @LiveHealthyMD

      We are sorry for your loss. Unfortunately, some patients can experience negative complications from the procedure and if not treated by a reputable surgeon and care team, these complications can progress.
