    The Clay is a white low fire clay without sand or grog. There is a way to fire without a kiln by putting the dried piece and burning it in a fire place or campfire
    I'll Post a video on this process soon.

    a c tenor would be larger . A #5 budrio ocarina is a c and that is quite a bit larger than the one in the video. Getting ocarinas pitched in a specific key requires picking a type of clay and then making different sized ocarinas until you hit a good c then reproducing that method.

    Maybe with a funnel mouth, for catching the wind, and a feathery tail added onto it. A calling mating vase. It faces the winds, looks kinda like a bird with a funnel for a beak, and a body that looks like a vase, with a tail sticking out of it. Hung at it's center of gravity faces the wind and sounds off it's whistle. Or maybe more like a fishing lure, so it swims in the wind and chirps just when it faces the wind.

    Just started the vid and all I can think about is the fact that the narrator sounds like a Shane Company radio ad.

    Im no musician or know many musical terms and their meanings but can i ask a question.
    I am trying to make an ocarina out of clay i found out in the woods , i got a pretty nice yield and now i am making a teardrop shaped ocarina , im trying to make one with 8 note holes and 2 thumb holes for octaves , Im not sure to what note im supposed to make it is it supposed to start on C when all holes are closed?
    Right now with all holes closed it is on F , i can get it to an octave higher C by drilling a few holes in it but then after playing 4 notes it becomes airy and cant play more then 5 notes , is there a way to go down an octave with all holes closed ?
    Also im not sure how ocarinas are played , when playing notes do they go one by one from left to right ? Because i saw a couple of people play songs by holding the first hole and releasing other , i honestly have no idea how to tune it if i have to hold first and 4th hole to get a note i was thinking it was 1 hole released 1 note .
    Sorry i had to explain everything in laymans terms but im not a musician , i just find it interesting to make something like this xD.

      Did you ever find out? I’m in the same boat right now with a 4 hole ocarina that blows an F with all holes closed

    Great information. I followed this slab technique on my last ocarina. Tuning is the hardest for me. On a twelve hole, does the higher notes make grossly huge holes or am I not doing something right? I have my tuner calibrated to 440hz. You and Ace Ocarinas' videos have been a great help on my last commissioned piece. Thanks.

    oh wow what kind of clay is this? it looks like a great one

    So, is this gray clay, like the ceramic clay sold in your average art supply store?
    Im considering trying my hand at making these, but I would need a kiln, which I dont have.
    Are there small kiln units, and how much can I expect to pay for one?

    You add water to clay, then mix it around to make slip.

    Where can someone buy a kiln for making these? I saw some kilns in the ~$450-1000 range, but the lower end ones only had like a 6x6" inner chamber. I also saw some sort of device you can use in the microwave but it seemed a bit...odd.

      Just make a camp fire and use a hair dryer or somthing and a pipe to direct the airflow , it will be plenty hot to fire clay

    How thick are the walls of the ocarina supposed to be?

    • @NotTonTon
      @NotTonTon 7 лет назад

      Thickness doesn't really matter. I like thinner walls for less weight.

    what is slip if i may ask is it nesesary to create an ocarina?

    • @TheXxXxNeWmOoNxXxX
      @TheXxXxNeWmOoNxXxX 10 лет назад +1

      slip (as I was tough) is like wet clay. It works as a glue to help make sure it stay together :D

      pontus pursche it is a slurry of clay and (or) other materials used to help bind clay pieces. slurry is much like your average Burger King Vanilla (or Chocolate, I don't judge) Shake in thickness and texture.
