This was such a useful video. I love my panicles, but I had no idea of the variety - especially the shorter ones. Thanks for putting the chart together. I'm sure to use it in planning future plantings
Such an awesome tutorial on panicles! I particularly loved the overview chart at the end. Will definitely save for future reference. Many thanks for doing this. Would it be possible to do a similar video on smooth hydrangeas?
Why is the thumbs up icon facing down with no other selection choice?? This is a great comparison video and not just with Proven Winners brand. Thumbs up 👍 is my vote!! 👍👍❤️👍❤️💚💚👍👍🌿🌿
This is my first year with Berry White and I am super impressed with it. In my zone 7B southern TN area, we don’t get a lot of the pink color on panicles because our nights don’t cool down enough. However, the berry white turned a beautiful pink this year. It’s a keeper!
Wonderful video - you did an amazing job on this one! Especially loved the overview - super helpful. Now where can we get the Love a Lot of Pink hydrangea? That one is stunning!
I have an unknown panicle in my yard that I planted about 12 years ago. I am pretty sure it had strawberry in the name but it’s only about 4 feet tall so it’s not vanilla strawberry. After seeing your strawberry sundae, I don’t think that’s it either. In fact, it looks the most like the one in your video you think is mislabeled! It has open and airy blooms, sort of like a little quick fire, but the blooms are more long and narrow. It doesn’t really matter, but I do admit there are times it drives me a little bit crazy not being able to figure it out! 😂 Thanks so much for this video!
Pinky Winky and Candelabra look similar, but there are loads more hydrangeas out there than what I covered. Looks like you might have a happy mystery on your hands 🙂
This was a great video Corey. Customers get so confused as well as us growers to all the new additions every year. Have you tried macrophylla Wedding Gown? starts off white and turns crimson red in the fall. Revivals all the panicles in intense fall color. I do the Moonrock hydrangea but you're right it's not as well know but should be.
I’m guessing you mean macrophylla (mophead is also used to describe the non-lace cap panicles). Those kind don’t winter over for us up here very well, so I wouldn’t be able to offer a good sampling. The Southerner’s Northern Gardener ( youtube.com/@TheSouthernersNorthernGarden ) just started a big comparison - I'd suggest checking him out starting with ruclips.net/video/2Redw8ecYKY/видео.htmlsi=QlS9h_cn7xLV2DB7
Great video! Thank you for showing all the options. I'm in Northern Indiana and would like to add some early bloomers, 5' range. Do you have a favorite?
It’s a little bigger, but the Quick Fire Fab is stunning. Little Quick Fire would fit the bill. My dream is that they come out with a Bobo that gets more pink color, because that one is an amazing smaller-scale paniculata.
I have found that good old Pinky Winky holds it's blooms up better than any hydrangea I have grown. I dug out Vanilla strawberry because it always flopped.
Any of the ones I mentioned in this video can make it in a pot as long as it has enough room with the proper amount of water, fertilizer, and sunlight.
How long have you had your Vanilla Strawberry? I haven’t had issues with stems being weak once they’re established. Is it in full sun? Otherwise, you could look at Quick Fire Fab or Limelight Prime- but if there’s a different issue affecting a Vanilla Strawberry (like problems with sun, pruning, or fertilizer), the same problems may exist with another variety. This video might help with your Vanilla Strawberry (even though it’s put out by Proven Winners) ruclips.net/video/wMc6f5QnsDI/видео.htmlsi=McqidA7Y0YWQ2RaV
Could you do a detailed video on pruning the vanilla strawberry. Mine is growing really well but very droopy. I really love it though. Thanks for your great videos 🇨🇦🌸👩🌾
I’ve got a couple - there are at least two with trimming in the title and the Misfits video has more info too Hydrangeas ruclips.net/p/PLnTB5Fj44ImwkOa9igdfXn05T1QPBigdu
Great video! I really loved the chart, perfect! I have 3 Little Quickfires, one newly planted Little Lime Punch and a Little Hottie and I love them all I’m glad you mentioned why there were brown spots, I’ll be upping my water!! Question, I noticed that Little Lime Punch can get 5 ft tall. I didn’t realize that! Is it possible that in zone 3 it will stay in the 3 ft range? Does fall pruning control size? Zone 3 Manitoba 🇨🇦👏🌸
HELP! I bought some Let's Dance Can Do hydrangeas for around my deck earlier this spring. I'm new to landscaping and flower beds and watered from above (didn't know I wasn't supposed to get leaves and blooms wet). Now I have lots of spots on leaves and blooms from overhead watering. Can this fungus be fixed for next season or will all these plants need to be replaced?
If they’re just spots from hard water, they’ll be fine, and you don’t need to do anything except change your watering technique. If it’s powdery mildew, you can use a spray, but you need to make sure you identify what it is before you take action. Snap some photos and visit your local garden center.
I’m looking to fill my yard with hydrangeas The front flowerbed is north facing and has a 4’ shadow from the house in the afternoon. Is this a good placement? I’m in NE Oklahoma
Corey I need your help!! I'm in the Chicagoland area and no one here sells the love a lot hydrangea, I'll be in Grand Rapids next week, do you have any recommendations as to where in Michigan I can get it from??? Thank you for your awesome hydrangea video!!!
It’ll grow best with six hours of sun. But if it’s getting at last four hours of sun (especially mid-afternoon), it should do fine. My mom has one in an area that gets about four hours and it’s doing very well… that location gets a good bit of indirect light when it’s not in the sun (so not deep shade).
We have many of them and they are beautiful in bloom. However, it seems like they all turned brown before they ever really turn reddish pinkish. Most are at least 4+ years old. We’re in Zone 5 Illinois.
Wow Corey this is an amazing video! Thank you for doing research and providing information on the different types of panicle hydrangeas. I garden in NJ and focus mainly on containers for my hot, sunny back patio. I saved the last slide for reference when next I go plant shopping! 😂🤑🪴
Corey thanks for the great overview. I've been trying to put a list together like you showed at the end. Do you happen to have that in a document form you could share here?
I know someone who has a hedge of it and they love it. I think Diamond Rouge and Quick Fire have nicer habits and get better color (and still give us the lacy panicles).
Yes, my sister and I actually tested all of them except Puffer Fish last fall and they did great… a relative used the dried blind at their wedding in January.
Love the chart that you did. The different varieties are much easier to see compared to each other.

Grandiflora
Sundae Fraise
Candlelight
Diamond rouge
Pink diamond

We find that in our area, most panicles don’t reach their maximum height, so there’s a good chance that it’ll stay smaller in zone 3 🤞

They’re for sale, so that lets us display them and offer them to customers. We don’t usually keep them in grow bags more than five years.
